great win for Macedonia

good chance for a 2-0 lead as their main man Rusevski will play Juska and Rusevski is better on clay for sure

great guys that give their heart in Davis Cup

Amazing stuff, Gulbis dominates the first set totally. 2nd was very even with Lazar edging with 6:4. The third one was reverse roles from the first one, Magdincev with a domination. Fourth one was a strategically tanked by Magdincev, he was saving strength for the 5th. And the last one Lazar quickly ran with 2 breaks for 4:0. Gulbis got 1 break and after that Lazar very confident hold-ed and broke again for victory. Ernests was struggling with his physical condition which was obviously an effect from his knee injury. Total deserved win for Magdincev who played smart and consistent through the match, playing on the card - prolonging the points until UE from Gulbis. Macedonia wins the 1st and possibly the hardest rubber Macedonia - Latvia 1:0 :worship:

Definitely, Rusevski on clay is the favourite against Juska.

Anyways, Gulbis. That is embarrassing regardless of the surface.

Kudos to Magdincev.

If the reports about the Gulbis injury are true then Gulbis could have endangered his whole season or worse by playing, he probably should not have played if he wasn't fit.

Well, it's true, he has some kinda knee injury, at least it was reported by our Davis Cup team captain at the beginning of this week in the local press. The only question is, how serious is this injury  It was also reported that he feels himself very uncomfortable on the court due to this knee, but nothing more was said about his condition.

I hope our journalists will get some interviews from the team after the 1st day, 'coz I'm a bit worried at the moment.

I won't be so worried. From what I saw he was more like unprepared due to an injury than that he was suffering from an injury during the match.
He was heavily breathing even in the first set.

Gulbis has talent, but, at the moment, he is just a brainless ball-basher with an over-inflated ranking.

either he can't play on clay at all or he wasn't fit
this is ridiculous

I just came from the matches.Uh, what to say, this is very pleasant surprise. Macedonia leads 2:0.
I carefully watched Gulbis during the match and I have to say few things.
The guy has unbeliavable talent, but frankly seems to me as an asshole.
He complained to everything.
Laze just needed to bring him back the balls and he will bash it , no matter if he is 4m behind baseline or so.
I mean, the guy has everything. Huge serve, killing forhend , solid backhand, dropshots could make the opponent crazy. But the problem is that the guy is mentally on the level of tennis begginer.

If he doesn't work on his mental side he will never ever become a top class player.

He obviously had a problem with his left knee, couple of times took a ice and out it on it, but there must not be any excuses. The player of his calliber must find a way to beat a player ranked 600 places below on the list.
