anyone else have this predicted exactly correct? -- Tsonga loses the first then wins the next three.

Very high level !
Pavel played an incredible TB in first set, with some great return-volleys.
But tsonga didn't lose his mind and broke in the first game of the second set. Then he started having the edge, and Andrei got more and more tired.
Key point of the match was maybe the middle of the fourth set.
The Roumanian line judges* made a mistake on a BP for Jo who started arguing with Molina. Forget didn't help his player to stay focus and then Tsonga made very ugly UE until Pvael gets 3 consecutive BP (2*/3 0/40).
One passing shot, a great second serve on the line, and a serve-volley lead the French to deuce. he hit 2 aces/service winners and the match was over.
Pavel tried to take the net at every point, but got passed each time in the game for the break (from 4/3* to 5/3).

* I have to tell that never roumanians line judges favored Pavel. 3/4 of hard calls were in Jo's side.

Hey All,

Good on Jo. Pavel is a good player. Isn't he the one that left the FO when his wife had the baby and then traveled back in time for his match? LOL! I'm pretty sure it was in 99 when Andre won it. Good man.

1 of 1Full SizeSIBIU, Romania (Reuters) - Australian Open finalist Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and world number seven Richard Gasquet put former champions France 2-0 up against Romania on the opening day of their Davis Cup world group tie on Friday.

The 21-year-old Gasquet looked tense at the start against Victor Hanescu, the world number 76, but soon found his rhythm to win 7-6 6-4 7-5.

Davis Cup debutant Tsonga, who beat three top-10 players in the Australian Open last month, dropped the first set against former top-20 player Andrei Pavel, 34, but came back to win 6-7 6-4 6-4 6-4.

On Saturday, Romania's Florin Mergea and Horia Tecau will play Arnaud Clement and Michael Llodra in the doubles.

All,

I'm trying to get it as it pertains to some stating that Tsonga's got all of this power. I saw it on some of his shots - but very - very powerful I'm not getting. Is it me - or do y'all think he has all this power?

Some of the WTA players display their power shots all of the time - but which male players have it going on strong with the power? I know when Marat is on - he is very powerful - and Nalby does, and when James is on - he has a powerful forehand - Berdy, but who is the most over all powerful male player? I need that head scratching smiley. LOL!

Brave Pavel bows to Tsonga’s power
Jo-Wilfried Tsonga began his Davis Cup career with a spectacular win over Andrei Pavel 6-7(2) 64 64 64, giving France a 2-0 lead at the end of the opening day in Sibiu.

Pavel warned those who were expecting a French formality this weekend, “I have a lot of experience in Davis Cup, and I intend to give the rookie a hard time.” Romania’s no. 1 player indeed showed the extent of his talent and experience to force Tsonga into playing his best tennis. Yet, France’s no. 2 player displayed power and confidence to prevail after a close four setter.

First set decided by tie-break

The match started well with both players serving extremely well and displaying spectacular attacking tennis. Tsonga tried to dictate play but Pavel replied with powerful ground strokes, a good tactical sense and an ability to reply to Tsonga with just as much authority. Neither Pavel nor Tsonga were able to get a break point up until the tie-break, where Pavel was encouraged by the ecstatic crowd.

Pavel won the opening point of the tie-break by attacking Tsonga’s serve, and coming to the net with brilliance. From then on, he was always in the lead, showing power and precision all the way to capture the tie-break 7-2.

Tsonga had to react, and so he did by attacking the opening game of the second set with sheer power to secure his first break of the match. Securing his service games, Tsonga found himself serving for the set at 5-4. His back against the wall, Pavel gave it all he had to stay in the set. A spectacular forehand passing-shot down the line, offered him his first break point of the day. But Tsonga refused to give in. Two forehand winners, and a forehand error from Pavel, allowed the Frenchman to level the match at one set apiece.

Tsonga edges ahead

The Frenchman went on to break in the third game of the third set. Once again, he was ahead, and made sure to stay so, although Pavel was still forcing him to hit some miraculous shots to do so. Serving for the set at 5-4, he nailed the set with two aces.

The fourth set was a battle of nerves. After losing two break points in the third and fifth games, Tsonga couldn’t stop a determined Pavel who found himself up 3-2 and 0-40 on the Frenchman’s serve. The situation was critical, and the probabilities of seeing a fifth set were suddenly looking strong. Throwing all his guts in the battle, Tsonga went on to win the next seven points, and kept rolling to break in the seventh game on a spectacular forehand crosscourt passing shot. The break proved decisive. A little later, after 3 hours and 5 minutes of high quality tennis, Tsonga nailed his 16th ace to seal the match and secure France a 2-0 lead.

A pity I couldn't watch this match, it seemed to be the best match of the entire day. Congrats Tsonga, it seems he kept up his AO form for this match.
