Nole out tomorrow?

stable unit

''Djokovic officially out - just heard that on Serbian TV news - also due to viral infection. Zimonjic and Troicki going out on the court tomorrow (Friday).''

Can anyone confirm this for tomorrow, apart from one MTF member? (I just saw this in another thread)

Thanks

I am sure he will play.

I will believe it when I see it. The markets currently give odds of 1.5:1 in favor of Djokovic in his scheduled match against Youzhny. Russia appears the favourite for the tie with odds of 1.47:1. It doesn't look like Nole's absence is priced in the markets.

but I search in the web not only google news, and it has every news existed... espn, yahoo, reuters.. If there is a news about this it would be shown in google. When Tipsarevic dropped out from DC it was immediately there.. I bet Novak will be playing tomorrow and winning =)

What time is in Russia right now (I'm too lazy to google it)? I think it's morning already, right? So he should be fine.

In the extended version of the piece (also on TV), Serbian tennis commentator who traveled to Moscow with the team said that "by the rules, nothing is final until 1 hr prior to the match, but it's really needed a miracle for Novak to play tomorrow."

It's 9:40 am in Moscow. The match is scheduled for 11 am, right? So we'll find out in 20 minutes if he is playing or not. Novak is a drama queen .

I think it's scheduled for 13:00 Moscow time, since the broadcast in Serbia is scheduled for 11:00 (2 hrs difference).

Djokovic out

http://www.daviscup.com/news/matchreport.asp?articleid=14505

Djokovic misses opening day's action
Serbia's star player Novak Djokovic is out of the opening day's action in the Davis Cup by BNP Paribas first round tie in Moscow between Russia and Serbia.

What should have been a triumphant first day in the world group for the Serbian nation has turned into a nightmare, with the withdrawal of both Djokovic and his No. 2 Janko Tipsarevic. It means Serbia must field the doubles specialist Nenad Zimonjic against the world No. 8 Mikhail Youzhny, and the 31-year-old hasn't played a competitive singles match since the last day of April last year.

Djokovic has been suffering from flu-like symptoms all week. The Serbian team had hoped he would recover in time, but they gave up the fight on Friday morning as Djokovic arrived at the Luzhniki Stadium looking pale and tired. Serb officials are still hoping Djokovic will be fit for Saturday's doubles, where he is due to partner Zimonjic.

Tipsarevic has also been fighting off a stomach bug, but he is believed to have picked up another injury in training that is still being assessed, and an official of the Serbian team said he was unlikely to be available to play this weekend.

It leaves the opening day's singles as Mikhail Youzhny (RUS) v Nenad Zimonjic (SRB), followed by Nikolay Davydenko (RUS) v Victor Troicki (SRB).

You can never know, Alex999 might be Maria Sharapova. We know he/she is not Djokovic due to posts appearing at a time Nole was playing. The possibility that you mention is too disturbing to contemplate.

I think they all have the flu. One of them got it, passed it on, and passed it on again. The flu can take a week to get over completely. This isn't like the food poisoning that Federer got.

What is with all of these top athletes getting sick before major events?
And why do MTFers always assume the worst. Despite Djoko's questionable injuries during his matches, it is highly plausible that he has a legitimate illness

Latest morning TV news in Serbia: Nole looks acceptably (though still marginally) better and had been training a bit last night, so there are chances he'll appear with Ziki in the doubles match.

Off: Good headline in the papers this morning:

(VI)RUSI : SRBIJA - 2 : 0

where "virusi" means "viruses" and "Rusi" means "Russians" :)

I love how those who claim AO is a mickey mouse slam when Djokovic wins it at the same time include it in Federer's tally of 12 slams. According to their logic, therefore, Federer won 9 real slams and 3 mickey mouse slams...but somehow, they never see things this way.
