Nice win for Acasuso. I saw both the 2nd and the 3rd sets and it was a really hard match. Chucho took advantage of Volandri's poor serve to come back in both sets, but it could easily have gone to the Italian's side.

Chucho seemed very emotional in the end and hit the hand closed in his chests. Chucho is back to the final and now has the chance to win his first title at home.

Chucho man he must have been as tight as a drum, but he kept fighting hard and the mental hold he has over Volandri helped him for sure.

Well if he is ever going to show mental fortitude on a tennis court no better than in Buenos Aires.

The big man didn't play that well, but he got the job done and this is what counts.

He will play the winner of Massu or Almagro.

Chucho plays Almagro and also he will play doubles semis with Prieto against Horna and Calleri.

Tough loss for Chucho to Almagro 6-4 3-6 7-5

He played quite well in parts and got some treatment for his calf, just a bit of stiffness.

Tough for the big man he lead 3-1 in the 3rd set, but couldn't hold the momentum, which was lost with one silly service game.

Almagro's over celebration at the end of the match left him more pissed off than before.

He lost to Lucho/Calleri 6-2 6-1 in the doubles as well.

:( not a very good day for him but he can be quite proud of his results the last few weeks.

I was there for his match in Indian Wells. He came out and played the first 5 games with great serving and unbelievable ground strokes and took the early break of serve and was running away with the set when the wind kicked up. He was on an outer court and the wind was blowing 30mph. Horrible conditions to play. He got so frustrated. He had a bad practice session that morning because of the wind too. The day before there was no wind and he played great in practice.

Great to be proven wrong and he was very solid today. He pulled the trigger pretty much at the right moments and even the slice backhand was working quite well.

The Latin fans were good fun and that helped Jose for sure, now he has to play Sela.

I hope I can find a torrent for this match because it frustrated me having only the SB.

Chucho played quite well for the 1st set, but a few dumb points cost him in the TB. Federer's serving was excellent and kept Chucho off balance, he got down on himself in the 2nd set.

Expected result, but a good tournament for the big man.

Chucho is playing Kohlschreiber in the first round of Monte Carlo. If he wins, then he will play either Cilic or Kiefer, so there are good chances to make the 3rd round here.

Yes, it's not a great period for him at all. He had to retire, he has had some injury problems, just hope it's not too serious.

The ATP site listed his retirement from his match today as "stomach". On the Tennis Channel this week they are showing reruns of the final at the Movistar Open from 2006. He needs to regain that form again. Hopefully, he will in the next few weeks.

Well, at least stomach problems are better then an injury. Hope he finds his form and the confidence again soon.

Nothing worse following a shitty scoreboard which back flips on scores on every point which is what happened when following the Tursunov match.

Chucho defeated Bellucci 7-6 6-3 and now plays Decoud, who has beaten him before.

Wasn't expecting him to win given he has had such a long layoff and we know how he performs in that scenario.

Chucho played a very good match in taking out Boredo in 3 sets and he had a break in the 1st, but lost concentration.

Always good to see Boredo lose and he is back in another final.

Great stuff, most likely will play Gonzo in the final.

He has already beaten one Chilean in a final here why not another

Gonzo thumped Chucho 6-1 6-3, but this was a very good start to the season for Acasuso.

Would have loved for him to have won that 3rd set espeically having a double break advantage and seen how he play thereafter

I was at the match today. Chucho played well, but Fed played better and won this afternoon. Chucho has been so intense in his training all week. He is right now back on the practice courts this evening for another hour of practice.

I ended up hanging around for the match tonight, Chucho had his chances in the first set. Feet were not moving at all tonight which is not suprising I guess given its his first match in a while. After the TB he pretty much gave the match away to Luczak in the second set.

Btw GW are these two friends? It was played in pretty good spirits and in the end both were pretty jovial towards one another at the end of the match and had a long chat before leaving the courts.

Pete is well respected by the South American guys, so it wouldn't surprise me at all. Chucho first up from a spell isn't good at the best of times.

Chucho plays Kunitsyn Round 1 at AO. Goood chance for him to win a Rd 1 match for once here, beat him in New Haven last year and Kunitsyn has never made it past the 2nd round at AO.

Although he lost 2-6 6-3 3-6 today in San Remo to Balleret, these past couple of weeks have been very successful for Jose. He's ranked 112 now and is about one good result away from the top 100, which means main draws at ATP events during the summer clay court season and US Open main draw. He seems healthy and fit and that's what's most important. As he showed last week, when he is playing well he's too good for most challenger players. This week is just what happens when you lack matches, his consistency, conditioning and match toughness will all be improved as he plays more matches.

He is scheduled to play the Bordeaux challenger next week before RG qualifying the week after. Good luck these next weeks Chucho!

Chucho is playing Edouard Roger-Vasselin in the first round, not an easy match, he's a good player and this is in France so he should be motivated. A win and he would play either Przysiezny/Clement in the 2nd round so there are no easy matches at a tournament this deep. If Jose plays well he can beat any of these players, so we'll see what happens this week.

Does anyone know where to find more information about Acasuso's status, plans, injury, etc.? Does he have a website that he reports on his efforts? I haven't been too succesful in searching google and Argentinian news/blogs. I saw him in Indian Wells a few years ago and later in New Haven and the US Open and like his game. There don't seem to be too many reports about his recent injury and efforts to compete. I see he won one and lost one in Cali.

I also first saw him play in Indian Wells a few years ago and really liked his game, and have been a fan ever since. It is very hard to find info on him, but the best source is a newspaper in his hometown in Misiones, Argentina. A good friend of his writes the articles and said that he has been out with a hip injury he sustained in the qualies of Roland Garros. You can read the articles yourself in this newspaper. Type in his name and it will bring up all the old articles on him. He also was nominated a few months ago for a JCI award, along with this friend, and the ceremony was a month ago. He is playing in a challenger in Buenos Aires next week.

Thanks for the info. Finally a source of some tidbits about Chucho. Knee, hips, and now elbow problems. Sounds like age creeping in... I saw on live internet coverage one of his challenger matches in Tunis. He was serving in a modified motion to land on his right leg rather than the left leg. I guess this is because he still felt pain in the knee. He won that tournament regardless.

Chucho got a WC in a Asuncion this week, playing his first round match against Berlocq.

I don't understand why he doesn't maintain a website for fans to follow. Hard to determine what he is doing and why he's in then out of tournaments. Does anyone have a better way to follow him other than looking up player entries in local tournaments?
