Spaniard Feliciano Lopez transitioned from camera-time on the Melbourne courts to camera-time on the set of "Los Serrano," making his acting debut Thursday in a cameo appearance on Spain's most popular family soap opera. The episode will be broadcast in the beginning of March.

"It was a really fun experience," said Lopez. "Everything is so different from what you see on TV. The actors put me at ease right away and we laughed a lot during the entire shooting session. I was a bit tense at the beginning but it went away really quickly. I'm hoping to get to do this again.

"It was easier than I thought it was going to be. I was amazed at how fast they shoot the different scenes and how much the actors improvise."

Writers of the humorous soap opera approached Lopez last week, and the Spaniard agreed to portray himself in a scene in which the character "Fiti" attempts to enlist the support of a celebrity for his local campaign.

The 26-year-old Lopez, who needed an early wake up call to go through make-up and wardrobe before the cameras began rolling at 9 a.m., added: "The good thing is that I didn't spend too much time in the make-up room. I just got back from the Australian Open where it is summer, and since I am still pretty tanned, not much make-up was needed."

"Los Serrano," currently in its seventh season, draws more than five million viewers during its prime time slot every Wednesday night on Spain's natoinal TV station (Tele5), ranking it among the top three public television shows in terms of viewership. The soap opera is also broadcast in France and Portugal.

I've always thought Feliciano had a very television friendly face. It's one thing to be handsome, but I think he just has that special look required to make it on television. That said, it hardly matters if he is portraying himself

If a person doesn't know who he is, he can definitely pass off as a soap opera star.

He's an athlete and he's portraying himself. What's the big deal? Is he the first to ever do it?

He's in the top 40 after a great second half of 2007, no retirement necessary any time soon.

But it isn't. Los Serrano is a tv series.

The Portuguese version of it sucked big time! :haha:

Btw Hospital Central >>>> every other Spanish tv show

On a somewhat related note, I think I read somewhere that Vince Spadea will have a role in the upcoming theatrical release of High School Musical 3: Senior Year. If I remember correctly, he is set to play an oft-misunderstood lyrical genius who is shunned by his envious, model-faced classmates. In the end, though, he wins the hearts of his teen-idol cohorts by poetically convincing Zac Efron to ease up on the guyliner.

Mr. Spadea's publicist has already denied rumors of an off-camera love-triangle between Spadea and his two fetching co-stars, Vanessa Hudgens and Ashley Tisdale. However, representatives for Ms. Hudgens and Ms. Tisdale have remained mysteriously silent on the issue.

Yes, indeed.

I think this is agreat for FeLo. I wish I could see it.

Can one of the many fans from Spain please upload a brief portion of it when it finally airs on to youtube???

As for people laughing about it, lots of athletes here in the U.S. make cameos on tv shows. No big deal. It's fun for everyone.
