Just read on the back page of the Daily Mail that Agassi is pulling out of Wimbledon due to a very bad recurrence of a hip injury. He has been told to rest.

Also said that the US Open is going to be more than likely his last ever tournement. He plans on making a come back at the RCA championships in Indiana in preparation for the Open.

He is reported to of phoned the All England Club this morning to tell them that he will not be playing at SW19.

Very disapointing news...

He was really looking forward to playing Wimbledon. He's never been fave of mine, but this is sad.

Shame if that's true. Especially since it's probably the last chance I will have to see him live.

I agree - I have never been a fan of his, but if this is true it's a sad way to end such an illustrious career. Has it been confirmed anywhere else though? I'm at work at the moment so it's difficult to check everywhere.

That is so dissapointing, he deserved chance to play one last wimbledon and get an ovation and bow out to the acknowledgment of a centre court crowd

Oh no, I so wanted him to play. :(:( But it's a wise decision for him to end his career after this season.

What a bad news . I've never been a fan of his but this just sucks that he has to skip his possibly last Wimbly. Get better soon Andre.

Win #800 has proven extremely elusive.

Sorry for all the Agassi fans, but this truly does look more and more like the end for Andre.

It's official now, wimbledon.org has a statement from Andre confirming his withdrawl.

Get better soon, Andre :)

How many wins does he have?

799. He's been trying to get that 800th since Miami.

Poor Andre. I was hoping that he would have a chance to play Wimby and go far.

That's really disappointing that he will miss Wimby...

If he is going to retire after the USO, I'm glad he's giving some notice. That way they can give him a nice "send-off."

In the BBC article, he doesn't sound as if he is contemplating retirement this year.

its sad....maybe he'll go far at the US Open instead. it seems he wants to come back next year......but i wouldn't be surprised if he retires after the US or at the end of the year.

 I hope he comes back strong for the US Open though  But he's gonna have a horrible seeding placement:(

It shouldn't be too bad, Naldo. If Andre doesn't play until the USO, he'll lose 365 points (150 Wimbledon, 90 Washington, 125 Montreal), which would only drop him one place. And of course Pete won the USO when seeded 17 :)

In my opinion, I think that though this is a big loss for Wimbledon and loss of opportunity for Andre, this could actually do the opposite of the retirement thoughts. If it is because of the ongoing hip injury (which hinders his normally free movement), then this could actually make Andre want to come back for more just to know he played 100% healthy instead of going down and saying goodbye due to injury. I hope this is the case because he's a true ambassador for tennis. :)

He'll come back. I really don't think he will retire on such a low note... its just not his style. This man cares about his legacy more than anything else (for all the right reasons--he loves tennis!) and he won't retire until he can leave on a good note.

Yes, he will definitely leave on a good note.
