Favorite '08 AO Moment?

My favorite moment is definitely the look on Tipsy's face after he clinched the first set against Federer with that running cross-court forehand. He did the "vight" hand signal and just looked mad clever--like an evil genius. It must be the glasses. Here's the youtube clip in case you missed it (20 seconds in):

ExFed-Nole Semis, second set: ExFed placing a cross-court drop, but Nole running for his life and placing the ball square on the line behind ExFed's back, thus clinching a break and 3-1 lead in the set.

(Unfortunately, I didn't watch Tsonga-Murray, I think I saw just a part of that unbelievable point where Tsonga returned EVERYTHING extraterrestrially while Murray tried with all his might, only to be passed at the end.)

Slim pickings for me this AO

Tsonga vs Nadal. There was absolutely NOTHING Nadal could do, especially in the third set. As much as he tried to fight back, like he always does, Tsonga had all the answers.

I have favourite moments at the AO, involving people like Peta/Molina, picking on Marach [to his face of course], Crazy Austrian, Sane Austrian journalist...but as for actual tennis? For me the Hewitt-Djokovic match was beautiful for so many reasons. My first time being in RLA so it was also special. This might be a bit weak, but the shot of Tsongas coach, tears in his eyes, after he knocked out Nadal. That's right up there for me.

It hurt to see Tsonga beat Nadal so soundly, but I had to admire the way Tsonga celebrated the end of each set with confident nods of the end. It removed any doubt for me--a star had arrived.

I think I would agree with you on that one. That middle Saturday was really impressive. Also of course, Tsonga beating Nadal, and Nole winning the final :)

Too many great moments this AO :worship: Agree with many of the above posts.
But Tsonga keeping so cool on the court after beating Nadal then he gets to his chair and in a split second he is like a little kid with such exuberance jumping up and down.
And the Israeli Duos winning celebration. A milestone for them and their country.

Fed/Santoro match with that fantastic point where Santoro returned a couple of smashes and Fed finally missed.

Also the entire Hewitt/Baggy match. They had me hollering at the TV and running laps around the living room because I was so excited.

My favorite moment of AO '08 (and I can't believe I'm typing this) was the look on Hewitt's face when he beat Baghdatis at 4:30 a.m. Not a Hewitt fan, but that match was one of his best comebacks and I was thrilled for him.

All of Tsonga's wins - they were all unexpected and so special - and he played great tennis, haven't seen someone play so beautiful in a long, long time. :D
Also the look on his face after he beat Nadal was priceless, he couldn't believe that it was really happening!
Marat coming back from two sets down was nice thing! And also seeing him showing will and desire to fight
Of course, all amazing 5 set thrillers, especially the Hewitt-Baggy match.

So many great moments and memories, can't choose a single one :wavey:

I didn't see most of the day session action on RLA or Vodafone because I was at Melb Park with a ground pass so I can't comment on them.

My personal favourite moments this year were my interactions with Andrei Pavel and Enric Molina...

but tennis watching wise I think I was affected most by Noles semi final win over Federer and of course the final was brilliant too because a player I like eventually won!!! I also enjoyed the freshness of Tsonga and his display over Nadal... never seen Nadal look so helpless on a tennis court!

Least favourite memories.... Roddicks disgusting outburst at the umpire against Kohlschreiber :o and the 1st day of the main draw when every match I attended had my favourite player losing

Ferrero Forever
01-28-2008, 07:50 AM
There are just too many favourite moments. The best ones were the kisses on the cheek from Ferrero, but even better than that was getting to have a joke around with him after one of his practise sessions. I realised not only how nice he is, but that he's so bloody funny too!

Other fave moments, finally getting to meet Ferrer who I've been dying to see, yet alone meet. In terms of matches, Ferrero's first round against Kiefer because it was just a privledge watching him play so brilliantly live. (In case you can't tell, JC pretty much made my tournament.) Other highlights would have been Mirka's face when she was watching Federer losing. The whole Roddick outburst 'stay in school kids or you'll become an umpire' had me crying I found it that funny. What else was there. The GGL fan club we got going this year was hillarious (if those boys are reading this thread, thanks for making me laugh like no tomorrow.) The Tipsarevic/Federer match was also brilliant. I was at the tennis in Vodafone arena for the first set of the match, and the Serbian fans at Ana's match went crazy once they found out that Tipsy had taken the first set. That made this match even more memorable for me. And of course, the people from MTF I finally got to meet this year (Peta, Kristen, Kat and Stacy)

Basically, can I just say the whole tournament. It was just fantastic this year

-The Hewitt/Baghdatis hug and then Marcos crying as he left the court...and Hewitt watching him closely.

-Tsonga's muted walk to the net, the hand shake with Nadal, and then the HUGE smile that burst out.

-Tsonga's set point that he won in the first set...with the lob.

-Casey Dellacqua's grandma...aww! Living and dying with every shot and softly crying every time she won or lost.

-Henin losing a set 6-0

- Tsonga winning the first set of the final and everyone going wild including his dad with the swinging hooks.
- Roddick losing his match (Kohlscreiber played so damn well)
- Seeing Tsonga play so damn well vs Nadal (Even with Rafa being my favourite player, I couldn't be pissed off.)
- And then there were just some awesome points. One example being Santoro/Federer where Fabrice defends amazingly and then practically laughs while waiting for the final overhead to be hit.
- Dellacqua having a solid run.

-Janković vs Paszek (third set thriller)

That was probably one of the weirdest matches i've seen...14 consecutive breaks in the 3th set, a few won on own serve and back to breaks again...that's when i started realizing why so many ppl don't like WTA

My favs (except for the Marat moments i already mentioned :)):

- Novak beating Federer...enough said
- Ana Ivanovic coming back and winning the match with Hantuchova after Daniela won the first set 6-0 and leading in the 2nd set 2-0
- Sharapova beating Justine...surreal performance from Maria
- Kohli beating Roddick...just loved it...Andy being the usual dick made his loss and Kohli's great performance even more pleasurable
- Joey beating Rafa...Joey - brilliant, Rafa - helpless

Most of my moments have been already posted by others but there you go...

--That pure delight on Juan Carlos's face after beating Nalby. :hearts:
--MP in the Hewitt-Baghdatis match and Lleyton's reaction and relief. (That was the only thing televised around here, in Day 6 digest. :( But that was not a shot you 'd expect after 4 hours and 30 mins!
--Tipsarevic staring down at Federer.
--Santoro running around and celebrating after winning that point with many lobs in his match vs Fed.
--Rafa successfully challenging a call CORRECTED by Norm Chryst after a FH down the line by Nieminen fell right in front of his chair. :rolls:
--And Rafa's insane lob in that QF.
