Funny how he told Novak "It was very close" with his mic on.

Then goes "Djokovic is challenging the call which was very close".

 Great stuff...

While we're at the umpires - can anyone tell me what's with Steve Ullrich's unmistakable vocal inflections: is he, like, terminally gay? or perhaps an alcoholic (God forbid)? or...?

He has a really American accent.

He has a really American accent.

His pronounciation is US alright, but he just incessantly singsongs the numbers in a very... "gayish" (for the lack of better adjective) manner. (Norm Chryst is an American too, yet he speaks quite matter-of-factly all the time.)

 A few days ago I was thinking about how much I love Steve Ullrich's voice. It's kind of fun sounding but with a suave sound to it as well.

Best umpire comment of the tournament (maybe along with Ramos's challenge call "that was very close" last night) was Ullrich in a doubles match a few days ago reacting to a crying baby in the stands "Can we get a bottle for our crying friend?"

I have no idea what his name is, but the umpire during the Ivanovic-Srebotnik match in Sydney (WTA, I apologise) got fed up with Ivanovic's supporters walking around trying to find seats during points and said, with his mic on: "Girls, can you just sit down? Anywhere - on the steps... I don't care. Just sit down."

Then everyone burst out laughing.
