I hope not, but I have a feeling that this will not be the exception :o

Let's wait to the next off season when all people resucitate threads like past year: "Gonzalez will be number 2 at the end of the year" :spit:

with doping included???

I didn't think about that :p I thought rather about Marcelo Rios who was a big favourite in the final and lost in easy straight sets as opposed to Agassi and Federer who were the favourites and won the finals easily against the opponents in your topic :)

OK, I know that but I thought tis thread just had to do with the AO?

He was a losin finalist at the AO and if he's not in it because of his Grandslam titles, why is Safin in it?

He won the Us open and the AO.

Ummm Safin reached the finals before he went on to actually WIN the championship playing breath taking tennis. He never suffered a dip in form.

In 2002 before the Australian Open he was ranked 11th, he ended the year 3rd. No dip in form but an improvement.

2003 injured.

Comeback in 2004, before the Australian Open he was ranked 86th, he ended the year ranked 4th. Improvement yet again.

So he started the year 4th, and in april he reached 3rd, to then be injured in Cincinatti (although the injury was being warned during Wimbledon, and I blame him playing this tournament for the injury, clearly inflamed his knee further)

This pretty much proves that Safin shouldn't be on that list.

Ridiculous is the word.

Hewitt was elite player before his AO open final.

Still.. Safin was too!

If Safin wasn't in the title I wouldn't have asked but he is so... yea.
