Newsflash: I no longer hate Coría!

Hey:)

Yesterday I went to the Ordina Open in Rosmalen and I met Guillermo Coría there. All of you probably know how much I disliked or even hated him and I always called him Maggot (rather than El Mago). Well, I promise to never call him that again. He was really, really nice and that totally changed my opinion on him. Meeting a player in person can really change my opinion on someone (I never liked Dementieva, but since I met her, I am a fan of hers - I always liked watching Kafelnikov, but when I met him I started disliking him) and I guess that is what happened here too. I have always appreciated his game. It's not the style I like, but he is a great player. I never denied that. I just never liked his personality, nor did I believe that he was entirely "clean". It's safe to say that I still doubt the latter, but I do like his personality now. He also hit a few balls with his wife after he practised with Tommy :) BTW, Guillermo looked good on grass.. He played well and if it hadn't been for his tough draw (vs. Beck), I think he could've won some rounds.

Good for you Martijn, some of the biggest pricks on the court, can be very good off the court and it seems that is the case with your meeting with Coria.

GWH is not convinced ;) Haha, well I won't be a fan of his for sure, but at least I respect him more now. Should be fun to look at his doubles match with Jose "Nobody recognizes me" Acasuso..

Acasuso speaks less English than Coria, not that this is a problem at all. I am convinced that you have changed your opinion about him and that's a good thing.

My jaw dropped to the floor when I read the first post in this thread :p

I"m glad that your meeting with him went well. I've always heard and found that he's generally appreciative of his fans. Everybody has their bad days though, so I'm glad that you didn't catch him on one of his. Coria's bad days can be pretty  I would imagine!

He also hit a few balls with his wife

exactly, getting to know somebody in person can REALLY change your opinion and your liking of a player can grow even bigger if you like him on-court AND off-court

Martijn!

At first I thought this was a send up. ....... knowing you. ;)

But, I'm glad your hatred is gone.

There's another report on the Coria Forum about how very nice Guille has been at Rosmalen especially to the children who have flooded him with autograph requests. I'm glad you had a positive experience.

And I'm jealous as heck that you are seeing all of these wonderful players on grass! :D :D

Don't hurt yourself trying, novanora.

I don't think it's necessary for everyone to like every player.

But I :hearts: Martjin and Coria :hearts:, so I'm glad that Martjin has seen that Coria has good qualities too. As he said, he's not a fan, but he no longer has hatred. And that's a GOOD thing. :)

Hatred is never a healthy thing to carry around. Like when I attempted to call Coria a little shit in Spanish, I meant it in the most friendly possible way. ;)

:o :p

Now, I have got to admit that today he was not as friendly as yesterday (basically, yesterday I was the only one approaching him, today there were tons and tons of children, so it's understandable). I think he is kind of shy and wants to get out of the crowd asap..

Well, honestly I would support him if he plays against Kafelnikov, Chela or Puerta ;) But I will be supporting his opponents mostly, but I won't regret him winning just because it's Coría now.. So that is good! I took pictures too, when they are devoloped (will take some days after Friday.. At least they will be of better quality than digital.. Those sucked in Rotterdam), I will scan them and post them here (though there are a LOT of pics in total.. Can't promise I'll scan them all :()

Totally, totally???well...that´s good, i mean if somebody can make that efect in you is great!!!

It's safe to say that I still doubt the latter, but I do like his personality now.

He seems really arrogant to me, but of course that´s what i saw in the courts...and we have a bad memories of him from Hamburg 2003..But we´re all human so we can make a lot of mistakes, right???
but I still have my doubts about him....

Guillermo looked good on grass.. He played well and if it hadn't been for his tough draw (vs. Beck), I think he could've won some rounds.

I hope so, even when is no my favourite player.....I have to say that i´m really glad that Gaudio won RG.....

He doesn't look terribly eager, but I am sure he wants to win ;) He seems at ease and he keeps checking the matches on Court 1 from the building across so he is interested for sure. And his game looks good enough to win more rounds in Rosmalen and in London too, for sure ;)

I don't think that will happen again, though. You'd think they would stop being dummies and at least put him on the grandstand, grar. I'm not even talking as a matter of respect here... I tried to see him on an outer court last year and it was too full for me to get a good view of the match

I am shocked he beat Beck, really.. Haven't seen the match (Clément vs. Karlovic was more interesting..

You should have sit at the highest row of the stands on court 1. From there you could also view court 2. I sat there, and watched Coria-Beck and Clement-Karlovic at the same time. It can be a problem if a nice rally is being played on both courts at the same time though (but that didn't happen too often since the rallies at Karlovic-Clement were usually quite short)...
These 2 pictures were taken from my seat at court 1, within 20 seconds of eachother:

Btw, at that Clement-Karlovic pic I wanted to take a height comparison pic exactly when they were both crossing the net. Too bad I was too late... But you can still see the difference in height. :)

Now that i'm posting pics let's just post a few more:
