Mats Wilander: This is the first Slam to feature all-European semis

He said during the third set this would be the first time in Grand Slam history that all four semifinalists were from Europe. Hmm....

In the last ten years, RG 98, AO 02, RG 02, Wimbledon 06 and RG, Wimbledon and the US Open just last year all spring to mind as examples of an all-European SF line-up.

Chris Bradnam also said glowingly at the end how Federer was still yet to lose a Slam QF, so they both had their moments.

I thought he just said all four, as in all four men. That's not my fault, that's simply a failure to clarify on his part.... isn't it? :o Still, it's another testament to the rise of Serbia, a few years ago no-one would have predicted a Williams-Serb double header in the quarters of a Slam with Serbia going 2-0 at the end.

Still right about Bradnam's error, though. :D

Bradnam and tennis just dont mix. He'd be better off commentating on a fashion parade, fabulous. His analysis and knowledge is woeful. He reminds us every 5 minutes about what a wonderful journey certain players have been on, Ivanovic playing in a disused swimming pool and getting a loan seems to be his personal favourite. We've already been told 100 times Chris ffs. Not to mention his persistent 'made it' shouts constantly followed by 'oh no, just long, thought she'd made it, chuckle'. I understand he might carry some appeal to the glamour viewer but to anyone who knows anything about tennis its nothing short of painful

I thought RG last year men and women were also all European. But I could be wrong. I remember the comment that 3 of the semifinalist were from Serbia. Another interesting stat is all the matches in qfs both men and women have been straight sets.

Seriously though, perhaps he meant Men's semifinalists, but didn't consider Russia as part of Europe.

Mats on federer: "the greatest tennis player ever" :worship::devil:

I've no idea how the other commentators are called but isn't Chris Bradnam the one that giggles in the background like a fool? Haha, I love that.

I guess Mats "balls" comment is forgiven by Roger, no? Also Fed's last loss before the semis was 2004 Roland Garros against Guga in the 3rd round.

Russians are Euroasians. They're definitely not Asians.

Sharapova has lived in Florida since age 11 - she hardly has any Russian accent. She's not even accepted by her Russian Fed Cup teammates as "true Russian". I think she'll swallow that bitter pill considering the $40 million she's making this year.

American people know as much about Geography as blind people know about looking. :haha:

Russia is officially considered as an European country.

They have a part of the country in Asia, but Portugal also had Macao and we were still in Europe.

When did I ever say I didn't consider Russia part of Europe? I was talking about what Mats might have meant, since no other scenario would ring true.
