Tsonga served really well throughout and didn't face a single BP.

Youzhny...where was your game in the first two sets?

JWT rolls into his first GS SF!

Baby Ali with a superb performance. Even Misha's usually good defense skills wasn't enough to stop that thundering forehand. New Yannick Noah perhaps? Allez :worship:

Tsonga played at a phenomenal level today. But the question is, can he play this well with Rafael Nadal on the other side of the net and "SF" etched in the scoreboards?

Tsonga is so good :yeah: He can play everything moreover is very strong mentally. Seriously, I think he's a material for a Grand Slam champion. I didn't appreciate him before the tournament. I thought he'd lose to Murray in straight sets despite his easy win over Hewitt in Adelaide.
Youzhny hadn't a single break point, only once was 30-0 on Tsonga's serve :speakles:

Rumble, Frenchman, Rumble!!!!!!!!!!!! I am ecstatic...as someone else stated, this could very well be the year of the Tsonga.:p:clap2::clap2::clap2: What a wonderful addition to the tennis landscape!!!!!!!

A little Jo Rap for you, a la Ali:

As the semi was started, and the lights were turned on, the crowd sat and wondered if Tsonga would move on. With the heart of a lion and the bite of a snake, Jo knew from the start it was his match to take. Laying the boom from Russia with love, three sets and its over---Misha is done.

Better luck next time Youzhny

Outstanding stuff from Tsonga:worship:

I love the fact that everybody expected Tsonga to exit in the first round against Murray but here he is playing the best tennis of his life and having earned a spot in the semi-finals against Rafa.

If Tsonga plays like he did today in his next match, Nadal will absolutely have to step up his game. I can't wait to see this match

This Tsonga is good. Impressive fast learning curve. He has now quite easily beaten three quality players (Murray, Gasquet and Youzhny) this open.

My only fear for him is to be fazed by the moment in SF against Nadal. If he keeps his head cool, a final is possible. Nadal-Tsonga should be fun, hopefully better than last slam.

Not a single bp faced. Unless Tsonga suffers a mental letdown, he has the capability to take out Nadal.

I really do enjoy watching Tsonga play.
I enjoy watching any French player play.
The variety they have brought up in the last decade is just amazing.
They single-handily are keeping the serve and volleyers alive with Escude early this decade and now Mahut.
I think Tsonga is probably the best of all of them.
His tennis smarts on the court are A+.

Tsonga is the surprise package of the event. You never know he could make the final which would follow the pattern of surprise and obscure finalsts:

Schutller, Baghdhatis, Gonzalez, Enqvist and Clement all reached the final in the last ten years!!!

Fuck rankings.

Tsonga is playing like a top 10 player this tournament.

He's always played at top level (prob top ten), it's jst that he got lame draws at every tournament. I mean rodick first round last year, gasquet 4rth round wimby last year or nadal usopen. If u look at his slams record, he's BEATEN ALL HIS OPPONENTS PRIOR TO SEEDS IN STRAIGHTS SETS. Now he's more comfortable with his tennis and get on with things. Bug change is, he now sees seeded players as peers, and rightly so. If he goes on a winning streak and lift the title, then there's no saying wot he might achieve.

garad is surely just a biased Federer fanboy. It's obvious to anyone who has watched that tournament that Nadal's standard of play would beat anyone outside of Fed and Djoker, and it might even be good enough to beat those two as well.

;) Better than real money.

Seriously, "Misha" has his chance on last tie-break at 6-5* when he had an easy passing shot to do but gave to Tsonga a volley. This point could have changed the scenario and became a nightmare like it was for PHM against the same player in Davis Cup final.

Experimentee
01-22-2008, 10:42 PM
Amazing match from Tsonga, all credit should go to him. He served well and stayed aggressive for the most part, despite being in his first QF. He will be a threat to anyone in the following years if he can keep this form up.

Misha played well in the first set, which I think was the best set of the match. They were even until Tsonga broke at the end. The turning point in the match was that amazing pass off a smash on set point. It really shook Misha up and he proceeded to lose the next 6 games. Misha improved again in the 3rd set, but this was also due to Tsonga getting tight when near the finish line.

Experimentee

I hope Tsonga can play like this against Nadal and not get overwhelmed by the occasion. If he plays to this form he has a good chance of reaching the final. I'm not really keen to see another Fed v Nadal final.
