The problem with those under-ranked guys who butcher through Rafa's side of the draw in the AO (assuming that's what going to happen tomorrow, Tsonga can still fade) and end up across the net from Roger in a slam final -

They end up losing and seem to forget all the good tennis they played to get to him.

Baggy 2006, Gonzo 2007. Tsonga would have to win this thing not to end up at the same place.

Talk about putting the cart before the horse. He just got into his first semi-final. That kinda hype is outrageous. For now;)

TSONGA PLAYS A GAME THAT'S IS ENTIRELY DIFFERENT FROM THE REST OF THE PLAYING FIELD. I've been trying to hammer this home forever now.

HE PLAYS A TACTICAL GAME

He is not a ball basher. He doesnt commit errors anymore. He won the second set 6-0 because Youznhy jst didnt know what him. HE HAS BY FAR THE BEST FIRST AND SECOND SERVE ON THE GAME, because despite it not beeing as fast as roddick's there's so muuuuch spin and curve on it, add to it the fact he leans heavily into it, that opponents are bound to throw the ball out if they try to retrieve.

HE PLAYS WELL AND CONSISTENTLY, NOT ONLY WILL HE BEAT NADAL, HE'LL GIVE FED A RUN FOR HIS MONEY THAT'S FOR SURE.

anousleshommes@h
01-22-2008, 12:19 PM
Remember, he has NEVER played fed, but he'll know what to expect, but fed wont know wot hit him.

He doesn't play entirely differently from the rest of the field at all.

You really are having a good old fanwank aren't you.

He plays well, he does use some brain out there and he does get up to the net more than most but he's not doing anything substantially different than a lot of players.

He's got a powerfull serve and forhand and can hit more or less all the shots, but... he seems to lack the edge to be compared with Federer. I don't think he has that something... maybe you can more compare him with Safin

He's jst been hailed, and rightfully, as the next federer.

I cant believe his incredible performance today. I can't believe his amazing style of play, so different from federer's still so skilful and talented, no ball bashing, jst well timed heavy shots, perfect touch at the dropshop, and a wonder at the net - and the baseline. That guy HAS IT ALL!!!

If you listen to the Eurosport commentators enough, you soon realise that the top 10 should actually have no less than 37 players in it, and the top 50 should really consist of about 193 players.

Just looking at the stats for winners and errors this tournament, the average day for Federer is a good day for Tsonga.

Federer is the next Federer. ;)

The media will take anyone who they haven't noticed before and turn them into the next big thing, if he wins a couple of matches that no one thought he would. Whatever. Tsonga is really really good. He's not the next Federer. Maybe if he shows some real consistency, performs well when he's not the surprise underdog and has the pressure of expectations and then...well he still won't be the next Federer.

I hate that anyway. Why can't he just be the first Tsonga? :)

:yeah: Perfect.

Some of the members of the peanut gallery, if given the chance, will always resort to premature salivation over a player. Just let him keep going, and see what develops.

The hype machine is not an accurate gauge of everyone's future results. We've seen enough supernovas to know that much.

So Tsonga will ONLY give Fed a run for his money!! I am surprised. Nadal is no match for Tsonga that much is clear. But I think you should have more confidence in your player. Fed will be Tsonganated in the finals.

He is nearly 23, he is not the next Federer although I would love to see this guy win lots of slams. But I think that is looking way to far ahead, when I look at Tsonga I see somebody who could win a slam or two, because when he is on form he is just a powerhouse. Great shotmaker.

I m sure Tsonga is good and has potential but let us not get ahead of ourselves. He still has to get through Rafa before getting to the final. Even if he beats Rafa by a scoreline of 6-0, 6-0, 6-0, he still has to face whoever he has to face in the final. Even if he wins the final there is the rest of the season for him to perform well to be compared to either Rafa or Roger.
Finally, don't u think Rafa and his already analysing how to play him? They have so much material to go through from this tournament alone. I liked Tsonga from his first season as a pro but I m not ready to hype him as the next Roger or Rafa.

Thank you for your honesty Escude.

Im predicting an upset against Nadal. Im in no way saying he'll win it, but here's how it'll go:
If Tsonga takes the first set, chances are, he'll steamtroll Nadal and give him a good hiding in 3 or 4 sets.

If he loses the first set, NADAL HAS THIS MATCH IN HIS POCKET!!!

If u look at his winning trend since 2007, he's achieved so well because he cud take the break in the first. If he doesnt early against nadal, he's finished, end of the road for him. But I have faith, and I wanna see him hoist the trophy. so GO TSONGA!!!

No I watched him play against Rodick at 2005 French Open and I fell in love with the beatiful feel he had on the ball. If you watched him live in action today, I defy to come up with anyone that has hands as marvelous as his. Even the commentators were subjugated to say the least.

ya, what a bunch of bandwagoners

granted, I haven't seen Tsonga play this tourney except the last 2 sets with Murray, in which he got bageled and then pulled out a win in a tiebreak. Must admit though that I was impressed with his game last year vs. Roddick, I was like - WTF, this guy is already 21, what was he doing all these years?

So at this point, has Tsonga sealed the deal for Bandwagon of the month? How about if he gets demolished by Nadal, Blake beats Federer in a 5-setter then demolishes Djokovic and then Nadal. I think that would be the only thing that could overcome Tsonga's bandwagon...or maybe Ferrer doing the same thing.
