Fed and Berdych have met everywhere except RG...

some potentials:

Federer vs Ferrero: they need to meet at the FO. It could happen
Federer vs Roddick: they need to meet at the FO. Not happening in a million years
Federer vs Hewitt: again a FO meeting is needed. Unlikely, but who knows

Federer vs Nalbandian: they only need to face each other at Wimbledon, and that could happen
Federer vs Davydenko: same as above

Federer vs Gonzalez: they need to play each other at the US Open

Roddick and Hewitt have never played at Wimbledon.

Fed and Berdych have met everywhere except RG...

Fed beat Berdych in straights last year I think- it's the USO they haven't met.

There's still several possible match-ups that could complete the set:

Djokovic-Hewitt (RG)
Federer-Davydenko (W)
Federer-Roddick (RG)
Roddick-Hewitt (W)
Youzhny-Nadal (RG)
Federer-Gonzalez (USO)
Federer-Hewitt (RG)

Federer could still meet Roddick at RG when they're older and Roddick is either a 26-32 seed or unseeded.

Hewitt-Roddick joins the list.

Lleyton came through at the third round of Roland Garros in 2001 or 02 (?), they have met a couple of times in New York, Hewitt won that tense four set semi in Melbourne in 2005 and now they will meet at Wimbledon at last.

Based on my database, this is a complete list, and I think you have nailed it on the 70s; guys like Connors, Nastase, Vilas, etc. look like they could have a few of these, except for missing AO.

Some other fun notes, two pairs of men played 4 times in GSs, but only at one slam: Gottfried-Solomon at RG (4-0 Solomon), and Yzaga-Sampras at USO (2-2).

In this context last two days were interesting. Lendl with both McEnroe and Connors met 5 times at the US Open and it's a record in Grand Slams.

Nadal with Soderling have played 4 matches in Paris (all on the same court), Monfils-Federer and Murray-Chela played there three times against each other.

Saw the WTA equivalent on TF and wondered if there were any cases for the men. Can you think of any instances where this has happened? I can think of a couple:

Roger Federer vs David Nalbandian (Evitman)
AO 2004: Federer def. Nalbandian 7-5 6-4 5-7 6-3
USO 2005: Federer def. Nalbandian 6-2 6-4 6-1
RG 2006: Federer def. Nalbandian 3-6 6-4 5-2 RET.
W 2011: Federer def. Nalbandian 6-4 6-2 6-4

Rafael Nadal vs Andy Murray (Federer in 2)
AO 2007: Nadal def. Murray 6-7 6-4 4-6 6-3 6-1
W 2008: Nadal def. Murray 6-3 6-2 6-4 / W 2010: 6-4 7-6 6-4 / W 2011: 5-7 6-2 6-2 6-4
RG 2011: Nadal def. Murray 6-4 7-5 6-4
USO 2011: Nadal def. Murray 6-4 6-2 3-6 6-2

Roger Federer vs Novak Djokovic
AO 2007: Federer def. Djokovic 6-2 7-5 6-3
USO 2007: Federer def. Djokovic 7-6 7-6 6-4 / US 2008 6-3 5-7 7-5 6-2 / US 2009 7-6 7-5 7-5
RG 2011: Federer def. Djokovic 7-6 6-3 3-6 7-6
W 2012: Federer def. Djokovic 6-3 3-6 6-4 6-3

Andy Murray vs Marin Cilic

RG 2009: Murray def. Cilic 7-5 7-6 6-1
AO 2010: Murray def. Cilic 3-6 6-4 6-4 6-2
W 2012: Murray def. Cilic 7-5 6-2 6-3
USO 2012: Murray def. Cilic 3-6 7-6 6-2 6-0

Nadal needs to beat Nole at the AO to complete it. Nole needs to do the same to Nadal at RG.
Nadal can also enter by beating Fed at the USO.
Nole needs to beat Fed at Wimbledon to enter.
Fed would complete it over Soderling with a win at the AO.

Pretty solid thread. lol the encounters are interesting.

Federer and Nalbandian had a very early rivalry until Federer took it another level and eventually dominated him.

Nadal completing the task on Murray was an interesting one as well. Murray pushed Nadal to a close match at the Australian Open. Suffered a Wimbledon loss than defeated Nadal at a U.S. Open, got interesting but then Nadal dominated from there on out.

Federer and Djokovic is a pretty balanced one. Both men are capable of defeating each other almost anywhere. A pretty close level encounter regardless of distance in their ages.

Murray and Cilic is a funny one. Cilic obliterated Murray at a U.S. Open just once but ever since then has bent over to Murray.

MasterMind5991

Here is an interesting list of pairs of players who have met at every Major:

* Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal
* Rafael Nadal and Andy Murray
* Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer
* Roger Federer and Nicolas Kiefer
* Andy Roddick and Lleyton Hewitt
* Roger Federer and Juan Martin del Potro

These are some of the pairs that have come out of my head.

I'm really surprised that Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal have never met at the US Open. It almost happened in 2010 and 2011 though, but Novak Djokovic had to spoil it. Instead of classic Roger vs. Rafa finals, we instead got interesting finals in Rafa vs. Novak, though.

Andy Murray has yet to meet David Ferrer at the US Open. Roger Federer and Andy Murray have never met at Roland Garros, Federer has never played Nikolay Davydenko at Wimbledon, and never met Robin Soderling at the Australian Open.

Rafael Nadal has never met either Fernando Verdasco or David Ferrer at Wimbledon.

Novak Djokovic still needs to beat Roger Federer at Wimbledon to complete the ultimate set. They have traded wins at the Australian, French and US Opens, but never at Wimbledon.

Nadal-Hewitt is about the opposite of this, they've 'only' met 10 times, 6 times in slams though (+1 at the olympics) and 4 of them at Roland Garros (poor Lleyton)

In fact, Lleyton Hewitt had been drawn to face Rafael Nadal in the second round of Wimbledon in 2009, but Rafa pulled out of the tournament due to knee tendinitis. Juan Martin del Potro replaced Nadal in that section, and Hewitt eventually defeated del Potro in the second round on his way to making the quarter-finals and completing the set against Andy Roddick (losing in five sets).

Just going off topic for a while, also note that in five straight years Lleyton Hewitt lost to Spaniards at the French Open (2006-2010). His loss to David Ferrer in 2008 was in the middle of the Nadal losses (2006, 2007, 2009 and 2010). Hewitt must have a nightmare playing against Spaniards in Paris, he has lost eight times against them (the others being against Albert Costa in 2000, Juan Carlos Ferrero in 2001 and Tommy Robredo in 2003).

I doubt Federer and Hewitt will ever meet in Paris unless they get drawn in the same section.

Federer-Tsonga. No 'Slam' for either though.

From the Big Four, only those 2 in the OP exist. Nadal still needs to beat Nole at AO. Nole still needs to beat Nadal at FO. Nole and Murray have not yet met at all Grand Slams. Nole still needs to beat Roger at Wimbledon. Federer still needs to meet Murray at RG. Murray still needs to beat Nadal at RG and Wimbledon.
Also Nadal needs to play and beat Federer at the US Open which could also technically happen this year if I read it correctly.

Why not add a 3/4 list below the main list?

A close one I know of is Chardy-Gil

2008 Roland Garros R1: Chardy def. Gil 6-3, 6-2, 7-6(1)
2008 Wimbledon R1: Chardy def. Gil 7-5, 6-7(1), 4-6, 6-4, 6-3
2008 US Open R1: Chardy def. Gil 3-6, 6-3, 6-2, 6-3

All Chardy needs is an AO win over Gil :p

Maybe we'll be adding Djokovic over Nadal tomorrow.
