LoL Serena & Vaidisova's Avg 1st and 2nd were both bigger than Nieminen's... It got the job done, though it wasn't pretty.

Nieminen is a typical soft-hitter but skills are not the most important things in tennis

Nieminen hit one at about 65 mph against Mardy Fish, and he won the point. As someone earlier wrote, he's always been a soft-hitter, but he's solid and consistent. Doesn't give up ever.

Yeah, but Nieminen can't choose his draw. It's not always the case the last eight players are also the top eight in the rankings. Just because Nieminen has a weak serve, doesn't pick his ass or scream come on doesn't mean that he hasn't deserved his place in the QF. Sure, he should work on his serve but apparently he has done something right to get this far.

Arazi's 2nd serve was slower... Nieminen is a good tactician. He doesn't need to serve faster.

I thought the 4th round draws were pretty equal. Youzhny and Kohlschreiber had excellent pre-tournament performances. Davydenko is always very solid. Tsonga is on fire.

Berdych and Blake are slam flakes. Ferrer wasn't playing well (and who knows what his actual form is - he's played nobody so far) , and nor was Hewitt. Cilic is an unknown quantity taking his chances in a very weak section of the draw.

I thought purpose of every player is to win matches, not to break serve speed records. Nieminen is doing fine with his weak second serve, staying in top 30 constantly several years, reaching GS quarterfinals. By the way, I just watched Karlovic-Youzhnyi match relive in Eurosport player. I bet Ivo hit the weakest 1.serve of this tournament in 3rd set. It was underarm serve on gamepoint, it was total surprise for Youzhnyi and Karlovic won the point:)

Davydenko can serve mate, its technically correct. Sometimes he is a pussy so he just rolls it in.

Becker who isn't tall also has the 2nd fastest serve in the AO.
