Youzhny - Tsonga : www?

Misha, from the beggining of this year, is on fire. Didn't lose a single match, destroyed Nadal, scored his first victory over Davydenko in str8s. It seems everything is working fine, except for his head sometimes

Tsonga's not having a bad year at all. Defeated Hewitt, reached Adelaide SF, but managed to lose to Seppi on hardcourt. This time he defeated Murray and Gasquet, two former or present Top 10 players

Those two have never played against each other before. On paper it seems that Misha is the favourite, but his results against serve'n'volleyers aren't that impressive:

http://www.atptennis.com/3/en/players/headtohead/?player1=Youzhny%2C+Mikhail&player2=Rafter%2C+Patrick
http://www.atptennis.com/3/en/players/headtohead/?player1=Youzhny%2C+Mikhail&player2=Sampras

http://www.atptennis.com/3/en/players/headtohead/?player1=Youzhny%2C+Mikhail&player2=Stepanek%2C+Radek
http://www.atptennis.com/3/en/players/headtohead/?player1=Youzhny%2C+Mikhail&player2=Henman%2C+Tim

However, these were damn good serve'n'volleyers and Tsonga, with all his respect, could be found only good and not always. Besides, all these matches above took place quite a long time ago, and today's Youzhny is a different person

So, who will win?

Those H2Hs are meaningless and mostly pretty old. I mean, Sampras, Rafter, Ivanisevic, and Henman are all retired and irrelevent. Youzhny is one of those late-bloomers playing better and better as he ages and matures. So much pressure on his shoulders when he was young, and now he's beginning to live up to it. Honestly, the sky is the limit. :)

I actually like how Misha's game matches up against serve and volleyers. He knows how to hit a passing shot, he's very accurate, and he can also take the net away from opponents by coming in himself. He's also good at chipping returns back in play off his forehand and backhand, which will be useful against Tsonga. I'm predicting a high quality 4 or 5 set QF, and it will come down to who manages their nerves and their serve better! I (cautiously) predict my man Mish. But Tsonga is one of those guys who can blow you off the court if everything is working. But Youzhny is smarter and more experienced.

That's exactly what I wrote

What I wanted to say is that till this moment Misha faced ordinary 21st century players and on monday he'll see Tsonga rushing to the net. What will he do? And if he loses serve, what will happen?

However, I think Youzhny will clinch it in 4

Youzhny in straights. He's got too much game for Tsonga. Plus, Tsonga tends to get tight in the big moments, Gasquet didn't have enough guts to take advantage of that but Mischa will surely not let it pass easily. And if you take into consideration the occasion and what's at stake, the odds are in Youzhny's favor.

im going for youzhny, i've had enough of tsonga i dont think hes as good as people are making out. as soon as he beat murray the british commentators are like hes must be the next big thing. to me hes beaten 2 decent players playing average tennis. plus youzhny's hotter.

Depends on Misha.
I've never seen Tsonga play, but he 'sounds' intimidating (maybe coz he looks a bit like mohammad Ali ). Youzhny has enough experience and skill, but he should keep his head straight. If he doesn't worry too much about it, doesn't oaf, he'll win. in 4 or even 3 sets.

Mmmm Tsonga has never been thru a 5 setters, and wud probably lose. He gets his momemtum from taking the first set. If he clinches it in the very first one, chances are that Tsonga will steamroll Youznhy. If he loses the first set, he's meat for the russian.

I voted for Misha, but I don't think it will be that easy for him. Tsonga is a good, strong, young player and will come out there with nothing to lose. I truly hope Misha will win though - firstly because I am a big fan of his anyway, and secondly, (I admit) because I think he has more chance of sending Nadal home than Tsonga has!

Both guys stand very slim chance of sending Nadal home should he progress to semis.
Serving the match at Chennai as a basis is totally wrong I think.

The three-setter between Misha and Kolya frustrates somewhat the arrangements of uncle Tony for his nephew. After a PHM demolished by Koubek, he expected for a thrilling five-setter between Kolya and Misha. Now a fresh colonel will take care of Ali with not much stress. Guess who comes next. . . . .:devil::devil:

Misha hopefully. A victory for the Colonel would see him clinch a career best 10th consecutive victory (he won 9 consecutive matches across Rotterdam/Dubai in 2007), and most likely be enough for him to climb to a career best no. 7 in the rankings.

I see Youzhny winning it, mainly due to his greater experience at this sort of level.

But I don't think it'll be easy. Tsonga has been on a very rapid learning curve but seems up to the task. If the occasion doesn't worry him and he can bring his best, it could be a real ding-dong battle.

On another note, I wonder how many more Tsonga-tards will be showing up in the coming weeks and months.

But everyone must admit it is fun to say "Tsonga." I wish I was friends (or at least acquaintances) with him just so I could call him by his last name. For that matter, I wish I was friends with Darren Cahill--"Killer" is the only name that trumps "Tsonga."
