I was wondering what your favourite ever single GrandSlam was.

So far for me this Aussie could become one of my best ever already in first week we have had great matches, lots of 5 setters, loads of stuff happening to liven it up (Baghdatis incident, Fed sick, Nalb back), lots of upsetds but the true favourites still in.

Before this my favourite was last year's AO.

So whats yours? It can be from any year and Grandslam by the way not just AO.

Nothing beats Aussie 2005.
Agreed. :)

And there's no way we can judge this slam until the 2nd week is complete.

Australia always gives great matches and surprises.

Also I love it becouse it's during summer vacations in Argentina and I can spend all night watching tennis!!! (today from 10pm to 2pm, just sleeping after fed-tipsy match until Hew-Baggy 4th set).

AUSTRALIA RULES!!!

I still can't forget Younes vs Roddick in 2003, Cañas vs Henman in 2005, Baggy vs Nalbandian, when it started to rain on MP!

05/07/08 Aussies were all real great. I can't think any of the others compare...maybe 2005 Wimb was quite good too...I can't think of any more.

huge advantage for AO is that all players are coming with fresh legs and it's a chilling Grand Slam compared to the other three.

Yep, yep, yep.
I don't know how people can say they prefer the others/ the others hold more weight. Year on year, the AO has always been my favourite. And this year has just been  amazing; I just wish I was in Australia to witness it first hand :yeah:

This is another great year at the Aussie Open. The only thing I don't like about the Aussie Open is that it essentially runs from 6:00 p.m. for me through the night. So- sleep schedule gets a little wacky.

We have had some great and/or dramatic matches (on men's and the women's side), some backstories as has been stated, and it seems that the surface- after all the worry, is actually working out pretty well.

I loved all the slams Safin has reached the final in, especially Australian Open 2004.

The Australian Open is easily the best grand slam. It has the best matches, the best atmosphere from the crowd, and the best facilities.

There were already 5 breathtaking matches this year:
Roddick - Kohlschreiber (whatever you say about Andy)
Safin - Baghdatis (2 fantastic players)
Federer - Tipsarevic (big fight from serb)
Blake - Grosjean (incredible comeback of James)
Hewitt - Baghdatis (i haven't seen it, but think it was great, was it?)

I made a useful thread for once. It used to be said that the fittest won Oz whilst the rest were off their game at the start of the season. In recent years this is bullshit as it's the only time when everyone's fit and fresh ready to grind it out.

For me it's the 2005 AO. I just love the Australian Open the matches are so competitive and unpredictable and the atmosphere is simply awesome.

For me the last couple of editions of the Australian, US Opens and Wimbledon have all produced some fantastic matches.

In fact the only letdown has been Roland Garros, which has been a bit sparse on great tennis in dramatic matches these last few years.

I am totally loving this AO so far. So many great, exciting matches right from the start. I always love the Australian - it is the beginning of the season, most players are fit and raring to go :) and the weather is generally good. Looking back, from a personal point of view, I also truly loved Wimbledon 2001 when Goran won the Final :) and French Open 2004 when Gaudio won and Tim Henman shocked everyone by reaching the semis.

The Australian Open always seems to produce more 5 set classics than any other slam.

Adler

Australian Open : players are usually fit, without injuries and fresh, this makes great classics
French Open : clay makes matches longer and some rallies with dropshots, lobs, passingshots, DTL shots are awesome
Wimbledon : well, it used to be art of S'n'V there, today it's exciting because of Power of Tradition which makes players fight
US Open : the atmosphere of the matches, especially night sessions, is exceptional

hard to decide, I'll go with Wimbledon, my fave slam. And Federer's 5-year domination doesn't change it, especially because even he played some grueling encounters against Nadal and... yes, Roddick

In term of excitement and atmosphere,my 2 favourites slams are easily the AO and US Open.
You have to say that the night sessions are something really special.....it adds definitely something to this sport.

AO 2005 was the most exciting. Federer losing to Safin in five sets. (I didn't like Roger at the time so I was glad he lost). Serena beating Sharapova in the semis and conquering Davenport while being a set down. :worship: Wimbledon 2006 because of the Gasquet/Roddick match; Gasquet coming from two sets and a break down. Fantastic. This year's AO is pretty fantastic too. AO has always been my favorite grand slam. The atmosphere is so special. Even US Open can't beat it.

Because 70% of the tour doesn't show up for clay.
