I think it was one of their best broadcast days I can ever remember. I left Fed's match about 3am EST. ESPN kept it commerical free, but I couldn't handle the emotional rollercoaster. I was shocked the Hewitt/Baggy match was playing live this morning.
ESPN should be proud of the coverage in the past 15 hours.

Between ESPN and Tennis Channel, I will honestly be able to say that I've been watching tennis for 24 hours straight around 1ish Pacific time today (minus some sleeping during the Venus match) and most of it was live.

This must be a new record, to go through the first week of a slam and not see one "ESPN sucks" thread.

I hope all the people who used to complain about the scheduling make a point to write to ESPN and let them know how happy you are with the coverage so far.

It happens from time to time, especially at 2 AM Pacific time when ESPN knows its only about 12,000 insane tennis fans watching. There is nothing they could sell us at that point anyway, so why bother. ;)

That's what I love about Eurosport. And even at day time, they don't show them at every changeover, which is usually the case for US TV.

I have to give big props to British Eurosport too for staying with the singles even though it fouled up their afternoon schedule a good-un, since they were supposed to show Biathlon from around lunchtime.

It's appreciated.

Not a huge amount but they usually foist winter sports on us anyway.

I don't think it was a tough decision for them - but that doesn't mean they always do the "right" thing :)

This time they stuck out the tennis and it was worth it.

 actually, "we" like the way he dedicated himself to a kind of sport that can't even be excelled in properly in his home country due to climate, lack of facilities etc.

and people adored him for never giving up on his dream even though people like you see him as a joke. we (apparently) feel for guys like that. so it's not really fanclubs in its original sense i guess, but it's not meant in any derogatory way either.

The ESPN/TC combination has potential. If they get it right, TC should be showing tennis all day. They can do that at the FO.
Why not? Who needs Destination Carmel, or whatever that shit is called.

I second both assessments on Engerg and especially Collins. Cahill has been terrific, just an dream to listen to during Fed's match. I was almost wishing for Agassi to be in the booth as well, his commentating last summer at The Open was tremendous.

They're really making tennis channel look bad.
I don't think they thought of tennis channel as a threat before when it comes to tennis but they've really stepped it up.
This is amazing. I'm so proud of ESPN right now.

They could have interrupted the tennis coverage for bowling, poker, or another bland event that ESPN considers a sport but they didn't.

Exceptional best hours of tennis coverage I've seen this whole decade.

They deserve to be commended, strongly. I couldn't believe they were starting right into the Hewitt-Baghdatis match. I fell asleep at 8:30 EST, having just seen the Roddick-Kohli replay, Blake-Grosjean, and then Fed-Tipsarevic. I only made it through the first set of Hewitt-Bag before passing out--ESPN provided more tennis than I could handle! Fantastic coverage.

The Cliff-"Killer" combo is pretty much unbeatable. The only thing that would make this coverage better would be if they replaced Bud Collins with Jim Courier or Brad "The-Sports-Metaphor-Machine" Gilbert. I don't know why ESPN doesn't cut Bud Collins' mike when they sense one of his "old man" stories coming on--some of his gems:

"The president of Serbia should give him an award!"

"The question is: Is Federer the black plague?!"

WTF?!

Yes, the coverage has been GREAT!! :worship: It took them awhile, but they've finally gotten it right. No commercials for entire sets and extending the coverage well past their set window of coverage.
Unfortunately for me, I was too tired and drained after watching the Federer match that I was not able to stay up for the Baggy-Hewitt match and I went to bed. It looks like I missed a great one. :(

I agree with everything said about ESPN's extended coverage and no ads, etc.

In addition, ESPN360.com streaming live from all televised courts has added immensely to the pleasure of watching all this tennis. If my favorite isn't being shown on ESPN2/TC, I can see it on ESPN360 straight through without ads or talking head interruptions with other scores, features, etc. Missed something? You've got at least a day to see it using the Replay list, although it's tricky finding what you want because you have to know which court it was played on. If you haven't tried ESPN360.com, I recommend it highly.

One last thing, don't assume you haven't got access until you try. At the very least, you can find out what broadband provider in your area would provide the access.

Make that 24 hours. It's like a tantric orgasm. TTC comes back on in 20 minutes, then ESPN comes on later. I think it might be 36 straight by the time we're done.

The only thing that would make this better for me (and probably me only) would be to have Justin and Cahill together. That would be killer chocolate cake good.

Both ESPN and TC suck big time
They both showed at the same time Blake - Seb match and nothing from Rod Laver Arena (Cilic - Gonzo)
as always, it doesn't matter if you are 500 on local ranking, as long you are american
as well, as Sharapova is so "american"
stupid Seb, he should finish that in three

Can anyone tell me if the tennis channel has ever shown the 1980 McEnroe vs Connors
