Yeah, I love the game! I've got the trial version and played it.
I like to play as Hewitt, his ground stroke is great! And he's serving at 214km/h too  Don't know if it's because it is only a trial version
Juan Carlos is my favourite player, so I like him too. Though in the game he's showing too much emotion than in real life, IMO :P
I tried several players, but in the trial version Roddick and Hantuchova are not available yet, and some functions don't work well. But the touch of tennis is quite good. ;)

THe best part of Smash Court is the motion. Does anyone know if they used the real players for the motion capture. Because Roddick's evil serve and his horrible straight arm backhand are perfectly re-created. LOL
Most importantly the gameplay is extremlely realistic, making timing and placement very important. This game is way better than Top Spin. As a matter of fact I traded in Top Soin for a credit toward this game. This game is only 39.99 and is well worth it. This is the best game of tennis on a console, but it still can't touch the god of all tennis games "Snoopy Tennis".

They used video caption I think. They didn't bring in the players and do the actual motion capture where they wear those little white balls all over themselves. And Andy only serves as fast as 145 mph (in any direction;)) This game is by far the best tennis game created so far, although there are a few minor things they could have fixed (stamina doesn't deplete so fast, better selection when creating a player, actual clothes/racquets from sponsors, etc.) This game rocks :rocker2:

They need a game with Roger in it, or i'm not getting it  :) They should really have ALL the top players and newballs in it. I am good in these types of games too, so if they had Federer, i'd love to beat the hell out of everyone(esp. Roddick and Hewitt  ) with him.

I might get it... just because it has Juan Carlos

They screwed up on JCF. He resembles Robredo moreso than Ferrero:haha: and another thing, they have Ferrero playing with a green and brown prince racquet. HAs JCF ever played with that kind of racquet before

I think Anna's in it cause she had Anna Kournikova's Smash Court Tennis a few years ago, and It's Anna Kournikova!

Havok
06-15-2004, 04:15 PM
When you add exp to certain skills, the contrary skills decrease. if you want the skills to mimic how your created player plays in real life, they use your exp pts on everything. If you dont care, splurge your exp pts on your stamina and power. once those are maxed out, then use your other points elswhere.

Damn this game sounds amazing... I loved topspin for X-box

I cant beleive they dont have Federer in it... Hopefully Topspin 2 will have Fed...

Too bad my PS2 is messed up at the moment...
Dropped it and it stopped reading my games
Othewise: I would go get this game rigth away... U guys make it sound so good... I actually got interested in tennis after playing the game Virtua Tennis for dreamcast... Been hooked to tennis ever since :D

I didn't even realize this game had come out until today when I read the post. I ran out right away and picked it up. This game blows the first one away. It's so much more realistic. I love working your way up the rankings, that's one of the huge things that I didn't like about the first game.

I never tried the 1st one, but this tennis game blows any other tennis game out of the water. They just needed an extra extra hard mode because I win too easily now:sad:

this is a nice game! bought it today, virtua tennis was my favourite game ever! i think the gameplay on that is slightly better, but it lacks players, tournaments etc.
i am very impressed with this game tho! lol andy pounding 145 serves past you! who do you all play with?

joeb_uk
07-11-2004, 08:41 PM
lol i got so good at virtua tennis 2! i could win 6-0 on very hard! and the highest level was 4/5 and i got to like 20, but the difficulty was the same :( but this game is alot harder i think, anyway till i get used to it

I tried tennis 2k2 a while ago and HOLY SHIT did it suck ass. So unrealistic and garbage, and sadly SC2 will become very easy in a few days no matter what difficulty, what opponent, and what surface you choose from. They need an extra extra extra hard mode in these games :ras:

LCeh
07-12-2004, 12:49 AM
Yes they do Naldo, I wonder why the comp stil sucks so bad.. :ras:

Luckily I have a brother, who is a whole lot better than the computer.

i cant make anyone resemble roger
could somebody be really kind and tell me a few of the settings that you picked in creating roger? that would be awesome.
also, sadly, no monica. shes on ALL my other games and it's unfortunate shes not on this one. i created a decent one of her though.

i LOVE this game even without my 2 favorite players... crazy isnt it?

In the Game Roddick's nose is too big and his arms r too short and there's too much muscles on his shoulder area.

There's only a few players that can remotely give me a challenge (and that's when the game "cheats" and automatically put you at a set and a break down..and if you fail to win a game in 80 seconds, you lose the match  :) ). But all in all, it's a pretty cool game. Still nothing nothing on Top Spin though, IMO. :)

joeb_uk
07-12-2004, 02:24 PM
yes its getting alot easier, i just won on the normal mode. onto hard mode now

Havok
07-12-2004, 03:42 PM
imo Topspin was a heck of a lot easier. I got the risk shot down and I just blast a winner on my first shot

joeb_uk
07-12-2004, 03:47 PM
is topsin only for xbox, and how does it compar?

Havok
07-12-2004, 03:50 PM
Topspin has a heck of a lot better graphics. It's not as real (you barely hit any shots wide/out) you have all the shots (flat, topspin, drop shot, lob, slice, etc.) then there's the risk shot which is the "smack a winner" shot, and its very easy to get the timing down on that. ONce yu have that you're constantly ripping winners dtl off your opponent's serves. And even without the risk shots I'm still able to beat Hingis (hardest player in the game) 6-0 6-0 without using the risk shot. Things end quickly in Topspin while in Sc2 you can have long rallies.

This forum is obviously observed by corporations who have commercial interests in tennis, and hopefully that involves games publishers/developers as well. So for their (and our benefit):-

WE GAMERS WANT HARDER DIFFICULTY SETTINGS IN TENNIS GAMES. PLEASE.

Winning easy takes all the fun out of lifting virtual trophies.

J. Corwin
07-12-2004, 07:49 PM
The only way things get interesting in Top Spin is to play Hingis...or to play Guga on clay (but isn't as difficult as playing Hingis). It's more fun without using risk shots.

Havok
07-12-2004, 08:33 PM
Yeah, but once you find out how to play properly and contruct points, it's still easy as hell.

J. Corwin
07-12-2004, 09:23 PM
A good way to challenge yourself is to ONLY use flat shots...and never use any topspin. Then it'll take a lot longer to win points. ;)

With using top spin, it's a one two punch...pulling the opponent out wide and then hitting the winner into the open court. :o

Another good challenge is to use one of the weaker guys on tour (not your own created player). Some of those guys can't hit a top spin consistently into the court...and therein lies the new challenge. :)

07-12-2004, 09:52 PM
the thing im not sure with pro tennis 2 is the movement, like when you move to the net and hit a volley its quite wooden. but i like the running shots!

adiidas
07-13-2004, 08:15 AM
yea.. especiaLLy tha runnin doubLehanded backhand crosscourt.. it's one heLL of a shot..

lol had it for two days and just won arcade on hard! i see what you mean about the easyness

Havok
07-13-2004, 02:24 PM
I don't bother with the running shots. I never time them well first off :haha: so i completely miss the ball, but then again I'm never really out of position.

is the career mode good? havent really started on it yet

joeb_uk
07-13-2004, 02:33 PM
it took me a much longer time to master virtua tennis 2, on the very hard mode. but now i can beat king 6-0. but with this game, it shouldnt be this quickly :(

Havok
07-13-2004, 02:35 PM
Yeah, career mode is what's gonna keep you going now that you've mastered the game. It takes a while to get to #1 (unless you're insanely good and can win the Slams and other major events in your 1st year with shit stats) there's mission play or normal play. at first normal player is better, but then after a while that gets boring so I switched to mission mode where you are actually put in losing positions frequently and have to fight your way back to win the match.

joeb_uk
07-13-2004, 02:37 PM
ahhh right, i remember the career mode on virtua tennis one was awesome. but i dislike the second one because you have to make your own player and they are shite! i think my version is set to mission mode already, it says hit 3 consecutive winners etc

Havok
07-13-2004, 02:38 PM
well 2K2 was extremely aracde-like so the pc can kill you frequently. 2K2 had no strategies involved, it was just blasting the crap out of the ball left and right until there was an opening  the reason why these new games are more "easier" to master is because they play more and more like real tennis and since we do watch tenis for a living  we know how to set up points, etc. even though arcade-style games take longer to master, I would rather play with one that resembles real life:o

Havok
07-13-2004, 02:39 PM
yes that's mission mode. to change it you gotta go to one of the bars at the top (calender, status, etc.) I forgot exactly which one it is, but it has the "game option" selection and you go there and switch it to normal mode.

joeb_uk
07-13-2004, 02:41 PM
ahh ok, i was gonna say to everyone do you thinking watching tennis helps you play these games? and you have just mentioned it :D

joeb_uk
07-13-2004, 02:42 PM
on 2k2 i use to play with the baseliners, but i changed to rafter after i had completed it! to see if it was more of a challenge using a serve and volleyer

LCeh
07-13-2004, 03:06 PM
Yes, playing as a net player definitely is tougher, especially against powerful baseliners like Marat.

As for if watching tennis helps you play these games... I think yes. I mean, my brother is not bad at gaming, but strategic wise and the way he set up points definitely is not as good.

Havok
07-13-2004, 04:27 PM
Yeah, I played someone and just figured he would know how to set up points properly and know where to hit them. So I took that for granted and tried to outsmart him because I would have anticipated his shots and smacked them back as winners. Yeah, didn't happen:o he burned me quite a few times during some rallies and it was frustrating (mind you i always beat him in straights;)) sometimes its better to play these players who just hit the ball wherever they want to and don't really think much on court because it forces you to adjust to their gamestyle:)
