A letter from Gaudio to Coria

Guillermo today I want to tell you a few things.

I want to thank your cramps because if not it would have been one of the most boring finals in the history of Roland Garros.

Believe me I could read in the faces of a the expectators that they were going to claim their tickets back.

People were looking at me feeling sorry like those starving kids in Africa. They wanted to cheer for me but they were ashamed to pronounce my name while you were dominating the game.

At moments I wanted to ask you to come to my side and teach me how you hit the ball without leaving the ball in the net. The TV channels and programs around the world were getting mad for not being able to have good ratings and looking forward to have their time filled. In Argentina everybody was asking if you could let me win a set so it would not be such a shame for me. After all, two argentines were playing against each other.

Suddenly – THE MIRACLE HAPPENED – I could no believe it, I thought you were going to quit and I didn’t know what to think. My head was spining around and everything shifted.

I felt I was doped when you were giving me all those points, I was waiting for you to quit and nothing. Still uncertainty was more because not even then I was able to play well.

When I got 2-2 (I am sorry you gave me those games) I was sort of drunk. I could not believe what was going on. Even then when you were in only one leg I looked around looking at my people asking to reserve me the first plane to anywhere. I knew that losing under those circumstances I was not going to be able to go anywhere in the world. No more tennis for me!!

I laughed because I could not believe how a man in one leg serving at 87kmh had two breaks and two match points!! And I was afraid…yes afraid..

It was my worst nightmare and it was true! My smile - I just smiled coz I didn’t know what to do I was out of place. I didn’t deserve to be there. In front of me I had someone who was basically “disabled” and even then I could not win the match. Anybody else ranked within the first 200 on the ATP would have been able to win and close that match fast.

I wanted to give my racquet to a ball boy to finish the match instead of me.

But then I remember Daddy and Mommy all the people in Argentina. God gave me a hand (THE HAND OF GOD) Sorry it gave me two hands and when you missed those two ball I was able to finish it. ( or maybe it was you who finished that match) I think you finished it, if not we would still be playing.

I am sorry I made you run on that 5th set but knowing that you could not not do it I was not able to do anything else. I could not play tennis. They asked me on the press conference and I had to answer that it is hard to play against someone who is injured. Well for me is hard to play period. I have no idea what to do when you were injured and when you were not injured.

Now I am within the 10 best ranked players in the world, I DON’T KNOW WHAT TO DO!! I am scared shitless, I think I am going to retire. Can you imagine on the next tournament I will be taken out on the second round and the next one otn the third and then the next one on the first and so on….like it has been until now. They are going to ask me to return the Roland Garros trophy!!

And I am not going to tell you what will happen if we play against each other in any tournament I would really give the expectators the money back from my own pocket

I wanted to tell you all these things to you so you will know that I had nothing to do with what happened. It was destiny, I am ok because now I would be able to retire (with a million dollars on my pocket) but I am sure that you will erase this in the future and the more you’ll win in the future the more ridiculous this RG will be. Because the people who didn’t realize it already will realize it then. I DIDN’T WIN YOU LOST IT BECAUSE IT WAS DESTINY.

The last thing: I would like to ask you is that in the future you don’t win so much because this will become the most ridiculous final of the history.

Bye Guille I will study all the calendars in the next twenty years so we will not play against each other.

Gaston Gaudio

OMG! Why can't this Coria "fans" deal with the fact that he lost the final? Coria is dealing with it with a lot of dignity, maybe you should learn from him. With these kind of stuff you're making him look pathetic.
I don't remember his fans being upset when Coria won Basel last year when Nalbandian couldn't play the final because of an injury. Did Coria not deserve that title? I don't know, all I know is (as other MTF member well said) that cramps and injuries are part of tennis as well, and if he got cramps was because he got nervous, like gaudio did at the beginning of the match. This experience will help him to grow and I'm sure he'll win RG in the future, he's young, he's got talent, and now also experience.

its becoming obvious these stupid gaudio-coria threads wont stop until people stop replying to them.

Although sometimes the urge to point out stupidity in these "letters" etc is to great.

That "letter" is the most stupid thing I´ve ever read here  And maybe these Coria-"fans" would be much more happy if they just enjoy Corias achievments instead of being bitter about other players achievements!

i would rather have read a letter from gaudio if he lost that match berating coria for his unsporting tactics

if coria gets cramps in the 3rd set of a match he was leading 6-0, 6-3 after having not lost a set all tournament it says something about his prospects of ever winning a slam.

If Gaudio only won the match because of Coria's cramps, Coria was only 2 sets to love up because of Gaudio's nervousness. So maybe Coria didnt 'deserve' to have a 2 sets lead in the first place? Maybe Coria should thank Gaudio for being nervous so that he could get 2 sets

Letter from Coria to akin

Hi, akin. I know you're a great of mine and you should be very sad for what happened Sunday. Carla told me we should invite u for dinner after Wimbledon. I'll be delighted to meet you.

But u know, i'm just trying to get over it, so it would be really lovely if you stop posting bloody threads at MTF. Things like this make me feel even worse. And please, tell everyone at the forums that i'm going to have cramps every single time a new thread like this appears.

As you could see, Besides learning to play on grass, i'm finally learning english here at england  Send especial kisses to GWH, CooCooCaCho and Alfonsojose54, my biggest fans out there

Note : Carla wants to know if you'd prefer beef or chicken. Please tell Becca she's invited too. ;)
