06-08-2004, 06:06 PM
YES!!! :D Jonas has Safin's number. Go Jonas!

06-08-2004, 06:06 PM
lol! are the blisters to blame? or have they gone?

06-08-2004, 06:09 PM
I guess he wouldn't have played with blisters... No one knows why he lost. But he always has trouble with this Sweedish guy.

06-08-2004, 06:18 PM
I just want to know some details about the match...

06-08-2004, 06:27 PM
I think this is Marat's first first-round loss this year....

06-08-2004, 06:31 PM
Lost to Roger at Dubai and to Vince Spadea at Miami... well, he was seeded, so he got the first round bye, but lost to Spadea in the second round.

Jonas is the better grass court player imo so not a huge shock here. Didn't think it would have come down to the wire either

06-08-2004, 07:31 PM
ay ay ay Marat...

06-08-2004, 07:32 PM
yeah, probably Marat couldn't play with those blisters buuuh... but can be for other reasons as well!

"thank u Jonas" bubu

exactly, I said the same in the live scores thread that Safin has quite a pathetic record on grass and Bjorkman is winning about two thirds of his matches on grass through his whole career and he already won some (one or two?!) on grass

Safin couldn't do big things on grass yet, so Bjorkman the better player on grass and with four consecutive wins now over Safin.

It doesn't surprise me. Not serious enough, and NOT motivated..even his Peter Lundgren will tell you that!!

06-08-2004, 08:22 PM
Poor PL, he REALLY has his hands full w Maratski... and he probably thought Rogi was no easy kid to coach!! Wake up Marat, you Russian doll...

06-08-2004, 08:25 PM
:woohoo: Jonas!!

You can drool over Marat all you want, but for me, Jonas is devastating. He's good looking, he has a wicked sense of humor, he's a devoted husband and father, and he is extremely giving to his fans. Plus, I love his elegant style on the court.

06-08-2004, 08:51 PM
Well I heard that Marat called the Trainer half way through the second set because of the blisters, but I wasn't at the match myself so that is only what I've heard from a friend of mine who was there. Guess he perhaps should have left it a bit longer for them to heal properly instead of aggravating them again.

06-08-2004, 08:52 PM
sad for Marat...he said those blisters should be completely healed by Wimbledon so thats good :)
Congrats to Bjorkman, i like him too :p

06-08-2004, 08:59 PM
Damn. No way Jonas is going to beat Kiefer. :(

06-08-2004, 09:12 PM
Damn. Marat

Marat said that luck decided the winner, while Bjorkman said that he played one of his best matches on grass ever.

It seems that Safin didn't have much luck this time.

06-08-2004, 11:01 PM
Marat never has luck when he loses... ;)

06-08-2004, 11:06 PM
Yay Jonas, I'm really pleased for him.:woohoo:

06-09-2004, 12:00 AM
Marat needs to realise luck doesn't win you matches:rolleyes: every tough match he plays, he always mentions luck  it's irritating me :(

I'm very proud today... Jonas has won their last 4 meetings now... with the head to head standing at 4-4 :worship:

The Bjorkman Kiefer head to head is 5-5, with Jonas winning the last two matches (grass/hard). Very close matches. :wavey:

Sweden´s Jonas Bjorkman needed 145 minutes to post a dramatic overtime victory over fifth seed Marat Safin from Russia. Bjorkman, after wasting three match points in the second and saving one in the third, ultimately grabbed a tight 6-2, 6-7 (3), 7-6 (4) win.

After dominating the first set 6-2, Bjorkman cruised to another 5-4 lead when he squandered three match points to allow Safin back into the match. The Russian´s serve would hold, though, and he fired three great returns to gain his first break for a 6-5 lead. However, Bjorkman immediately returned the favour – just to find himself stumbling in the tie-break again.

In a hard-fought third set, there were no break points prior to the tenth game but Safin prevailed again. Bjorkman, down 6-5 and serving, then saved one match point before wrapping up the issue in the tiebreak, where he came back from a 3-1 deficit to clinch a 7-4 win. "It´s very frustrating to lose like this," Safin said afterwards. "It was a lottery in the end and he made some great shots as well as the big points."

"I´m no fan of grass and I´m not enjoying it," he added.Bjorkman was
"pleased to beat such a quality player in my first match on grass."

Great start on grass
I have been in Halle, Germany, since Wednesday, practising on the grass courts, and I feel in great form! Today I beat Marat Safin in a close match, 6-2, 6-7, 7-6, for the fourth time in a row. . (from Jonas' website)

im not really expecting much from him this grass season..
but he held a match point so it's a lost opportunity once more....

i just hope he's not pushing himself too much... i mean those blisters should be properly healed come wimbledon.

and yeah, he mentions "luck" and "lottery" a lot

06-09-2004, 07:22 AM
Well done, Bjösse!

I think Bjösse can have a great grass season as it looks like.
I hope he can go on like this and hopefully be even better in
Wimbledon than last year!

Kom igen Bjösse!

06-09-2004, 08:28 AM
Jonas is the better player on grass anyway.. Great win for him :)

Tough luck Marat, now let your blisters heal and play better in Rosmalen :D

06-09-2004, 09:05 AM
i agree i know i was disapointed when i knew the result but it's his first tournement on grass so don't be so ... with him and for people who say that marat desn't know how to play on grass i think that he reached on time the 1/4 finale in wimbledon

06-09-2004, 09:27 AM
Bang goes his chance for a top 16 seed at Wimbledon though, and to make things worse, Bjorkman was one of his competitors for that seeding.

I think the blisters were a problem for Safin. He had the trainer out already only a couple of games into the match

06-09-2004, 09:31 PM
is this not the first time marat has played on grass for nearly 2 years?? Therefore, i think he did pretty well, although well done to jonas :)
