I can not wait to see it. Unfortunately it has not come around near where I live. There is one small theatre that shows foreign films so I can only hope.
If not when it comes out on DVD for sure.

No way. As it is ,since I have a family and a computer savvy teen we have lots of computers:p His screen(s) are great but then he bought them himself. And I can ask him to download for me although I prefer being legal;)

And for your Japanese anime intake can I suggest "Tokyo Godfathers". Fantastic anime :yeah:

"Burn after reading" , by the cohen brothers, with brad pitt and george clooney.
Brad Pitt made me laugh out loud, his character is just ridiculous, so much far from his image of sex symbol !
The story is just crazy and weird, that's the Cohen's universe.

seven pounds - if you liked pay it forward, you might like this (even though its poorer version of it). this movie is only 2 hours long but its drags on, i fell asleep after the first hour. its does have a great soundtrack....

quantum of solace- running, jumping, driving, skipping (ok there no skipping). this movie is non stop action drivel. while the credit were rolling, i was looking for to see who wrote this piece of crap, so i could send anthrax to them.

let the right one in- its was alright drama movie, yes the vampire elements in this movie were quite redundant. it could have worked without it, since the purpose of the film was the relationship between the geek and the thing (little vampire is a 'it').

Just caught up with ''In Bruges."
I loved it. Nice to hear real Dublin accents instead of phony ones. And what great dialogue, not to mention the cinema's greatest karate chop.

The movie was like ''The Station Agent'' meets ''Little Miss Sunshine,'' with an ending that was there to see about 20 minutes into the movie, but still took me by surprise.

Don't know why "fast clay" calls it commercial. As with Station Agent and Sunshine it is too good for the average audience and only did $6M in the US.

I saw In Bruges recently as well and loved it! :yeah: It was fun to see a Belgian city in a 'big' movie like that.

Some things bothered me though:
- the so called 'flemish' girl Chloe is played by a French actress
- the hotel owner Marie is played by a Dutch actress
- the boyfriend Eirik is played by a wallon actor.
First of all 'Eirik' is not a flemish name and since all three of them were supposed to play inhabitants of Bruges it annoyed me because I could clearly hear their francophone/dutch accents through the English.
But I guess most people couldn't hear this. ;)

buddyholly
03-16-2009, 03:32 PM
I guess that was part of the joke. Where are you going to find local people who can act, in a shithole like Bruges?

I didn't necessarily want them all to be from Bruges  but the least they could have done was find some actors who don't have accents that say 'Hi, I'm french'. We do have some actors you know.

I know they do it all the time in movies, but it's annoying for me. Like when in American movies the Russian/French characters are just Americans with fake accents. It just bothers me.

At the movies: Gran Torino. Never thought I'd say this but Clint Eastwood is hilarious in the movie. The final is depressing, then again it wouldn't be Eastwood directing if he didn't try to manipulate the audience's feelings in the end.

On TV: American Gangster. A tad conventional (you don't see original films of the genre since the 1990s, all kinds of formulas are exhausted), but good entertainment nonetheless.

The Duellists (1977)

channel surfed on to this one by accident... Ridley Scott's debut, based on a real life story of two french soldiers repeatedly duelling through the Napoleonic wars/age over a petty dispute... Keitel does a great job as an arsehole... the true story goes like:
They fought their first duel in 1794 from which Fournier demanded a rematch. This rematch resulted in at least another 30 duels over the next 19 years in which the two officers fought mounted, on foot, with swords, rapiers, and sabres.
so the movie is quite fascinating from this aspect... so watch it and dont look up wiki for what happens... its a cool end...

scotts talent though was obvious and the visuals are unbelieveable for the date... aged well..

I saw this last night.

I only thought the ending was remotely scary, the rest of the movie was a whole lot of yelling and drama. The actual story of the 'infection' and the possessed girl didn't come up until the last 15 minutes and wasn't properly explained.

Also saw an Irish 'horror'movie called Isolation about mutant cows :o  but that was only because a few weeks earlier my friend and I saw a movie from New Zealand called 'Black Sheep' about mutant killer sheep (yes!) and we were loao with that one.
