It was a few weeks ago but Tropic Thunder

It was pretty awful :help: A few funny moments... but otherwise very lame attempt at comedy - which makes me sad since I love Ben Stiller and Jack Black usually.

Seriously? I thought it was hilarious. Not Zoolander level stuff, but it had its funny moments.

Then again, my last movie was Beverly Hills Chihuahua (don't ask) so maybe my expectations are just really low right now.

I saw Babylon A.D. I had no great advance knowledge of it going in (other than it was Science Fiction.) Found out it was a Vin Diesel film...

This seemed anti-Religious. Written to recap the Anti-Soviet era. Or anti-faith. I don't know whether it was written to order (like I suspect Day After Tomorrow was [2004]...) Just hated it, afterward.

i guess i have to accept that Stiller will never make anything close to Zoolander
it's hm...hardly o.k. Downey was the best thing in it.
intro trailer with Enigma's Sadness turns out to be the funniest thing in the movie.
Cruise cameo is sickly overrated, the only thing funny are his latent gay rants,
Steve Coogan is really underused in this, too bad.
lol when i was at the movies i thought they're still advertising some movies, and I thought it was impossible so many idiotic movies were to be introduced soon :help:

I recently saw "Stellet Licht" ("Silent Light") by Mexican director Reygadas. Not for the average movie-goer, it is very slow and documentary-like with very nice cinematography. It is set entirely among a Mennonite community in Mexico (who talk in an old German dialect), and you'll not find much evidence watching it that it is actually in Mexico. But it's refreshing and pure and something you will remember longer than most other movies.

The Midnight Meat Train

Director: Ryuhei Kitamura

Writer/Producer: Clive Barker

Great premise, started off really well- then degenerated into a typical  with requisite buckets of blood and no legitimate scary moments.

I'm a hardcore fan of the horror genre and not easy to please, but the ending seemed like a copout to me.

Slickly shot w/ good special FX though, I'll give the creators that. :)

They SLAUGHTERED the story, I'm currently reading the Books of Blood (this story is in the first volume) and it pained me, first because the lead character is supposed to be this loser man, ugly, without a job and stuff and here they put pretty Will from Alias to play it and as a photographer

here's the trailer for those interested:

8pifkqLq6c0

The first Hellraiser was much better adapted than this movie, Barker is a great horror writer ;)

I didn't have a problem with the violence as I started watching horrors around 7 years old lol but it was too real for me too. The situation/ending itself, not all the blood and violence. I guess I'm brainwashed by Disney or smth; I was appalled by the way it ended. :p But Javier Bardem's performance made me feel happy; it doesn't happen a lot that a character leaves such an impression on me.

is Twilight THAT bad?

Yes^498791. I know RPattz just finished filming Salvador Dali and I hope the guy did a better job. He was horrible as Edward. I mean, the character is supposed to be mysterious/compelling, y/n? Here Edward was like mentally challenged or smth. The way he spoke was odd, his body language was off... Robert was just really bad as Edward. Really bad. KStew was a bit better but I honestly lol'd at that scene where she pleads Edward to not leave her. OMG, I would've done that better.

The only positive thing was, like I said, the actor playing James for me. And the cast is very good-looking (Jacob especially, very interesting face) so if that's enough for you, you should def go. :D

ETA - this doesn't really count I guess but Friday I saw Things We Lost in the Fire with Halle Berry and Benicio Del Toro. The acting was excellent imo but the story itself was so-so. And am I the only one who thinks Del Toro is incredibly attractive? He's like a manlier, darker Brad Pitt.

Hey, I LOVED Buffy. It still one of the best shows out there for me, just brilliant. And I actually thought Twilight (the book) was alright. The only thing really bugging me was the idolization of Edward. The fact that he sparkles is a bit over-the-top imo. Anyway...It wasn't as much the story as the acting ruining the film imo. There are plenty of film plots that make one go 'omg' but sometimes the acting saves the day. This just wasn't the case here.

Look what I found on imdb about Robert Pattinson (Edward)

Pattinson Doesn't Wash His Hair
30 November 2008 6:11 AM, PST

Actor Robert Pattinson has poor standards of hygiene when it comes to his hair - he never washes it.

The Twilight star has shot to fame after portraying a vampire in the new movie - but he risks jeopardising his hunk status by confessing his dirty secret.

He says, "I don't have much of a sense of personal hygiene or styling or anything. I gave up washing it a while back."

Don't forget Interview with the Vampire. That's a great movie too.

Tbqh, I think RPattz is a bit 'unique' overall. He admits he thinks Twilight is absolutely ridiculous, has said on multiple occasions that he can't act and... on pretty much every red carpet pic I see of him he looks stoned/drunk as hell. :tape: I'm not surprised he doesn't care for personal hygiene.

Del Toro is definitely my idea of a man too. I hear he is an ass though
I recently rewatched The Terminator.
Still one of my all time favorite scifi flicks :yeah: We have all three and like many of the other trilogy films we have I sit with the youngest on a rainy/snowy off days having a movie marathon;) Bonding time :rocker2:
What have you been expecting from a movie about (modern) vampires  All of them are silly. I read the book was even worse as if this was possible.

The last film I saw was Quantum of Solace and it was OK. Not that good as Casino Royal but better than any other Bond film.
Youngest who is almost 12 borrowed the first one from a friend who was all a twitter from them. He read 2 chapters and called it quits. I took a look. I quess if you are a preteen/teenage girl they are ok. Not my sort of thing. Vampire books have been done before and so much better imo. But they obviously appeal to many folks ;)
Buffy had some good moments. The pilot for the show was pretty cheesy and over the top. But I guess that was the fun of it for me.

Well Buffy was one of those shows that recognized its own silliness (at times). Like I remember when Spike was having sex with one of the Buffybots and she had to call him 'the big bad' as they were doing it. :tape: :rolls: Stuff like that did make it really fun imo, the craziness and at times even ridiculousness of it.

uggh, that voice in off is ANNOYING :retard:
Rebecca Hall's part is bad, really bad, she has no strenght in the characterization, Bardem is his usual latin-lover self (he only plays decent roles when gets away from being the "latino" or the "español")

First horror movie I've loved since a long time.

I just saw Romeo + Juliet. Was horrible, and I usually love Baz Luhrmann. My imagination failed me I think bc I thought it was absolutely ridic, the Shakesperean the actors were speaking in a 20th century setting. And it was so, so busy. The kind of film that makes Braveheart look calm and relaxing.

Just watched the DVD out of curiosity, to hear Streep sing. Has to be the worst movie of the year, embarrassing all round. Whoever did ''casting'' should be taken out and shot.

Should sweep at the Raspberries.

It is just staggering that on stage and in movies this piece of garbage has brought in hundreds of millions.

Like everyone else in the world, I liked ABBA. Now I can't stand their songs. ABBA music just reminds me of the Brosnan nightmare. Nails on a blackboard would sound melodic compared to him ''singing''.

"Australia" Great cinematography, story a bit predictable but who cares when Hugh Jackman has a wet, shirtless scene-that was worth the price of admission alone  Even though it was almost 3 hours it didn't seem that long to me so I guess that is good sign. No new territory as far as writing but still entertaining- and I learned a bit of Aussie history too :yeah:.

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. A lot of people trashed this movie when it came out but I really enjoyed it...great fun and it takes me back to my childhood (I used to watch the first three movies very often).

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button - boring and overrated hollywood trash as usual. Benjamin's character is very pale, while Cate Blanchett's is too weird, but not interesting. Shame that Julia Ormond as a very expressive actress had so small and unmarked role. And shame for such a bad advertisement for the book. Brad convinced me that he's a Robert Redford of nowadays. rating: 5-6.

Gran Torino - is this a Dirty Harry final sequel?;) At least, Eastwood was very funny making the character of an old blunt polish racist:lol: (but spoiled it with the good heart, of course:rolleyes:).
As usual, warm human instructive story, but pathetic at the end, what is, again, usual when we talk about Eastwood's directing. Anyway, I have to put him at the top ten USA directors lately. Rating: 7-8.

Slumdog millionaire - I was very excited at the beginning - good directing as the good elements (dramatical and historical) of the story. Somewhere until few minutes from the end, I was satisfied for seeing an unusual indian film piece. While the brother has been murdered, a moment after that - those two people were kissing each other as in some classical hollywood happy-end trash...I felt stupid, but the cherry on the cream was a bollywood dance of the entire crew:confused: with their traditional screaming voices 'song' (it always reminds me at the Michael Jackson's videos), I remembered that I actually just saw another bollywood:rolleyes: movie.
Anyway, story has a social role to calm down the majority of the population with the dream-comes-true film about a boy from the ghetto, who has, even! uneducated, won millions in the popular quiz. And what a hysteria about it! How that never happened here, I wonder. Danny Boyle could win some prize for the directing, I guess. Rating:6 (maybe 7).

Another movie, worth of seeing, is based on a popular manga comic book (coming from Japan) - Death Note: L change the world. Hollywood should look to them as far as this genre is about. Very amusing with the fantastic created character of detective L.:) He walks like an ape (and climbing everywhere, by the way), always barefoot (but he had to put on All star Connors shoes lately), he eats the sweets all the time, he's blunt and not much socialized guy, never driven by his own emotions, but has a large knowledge and a will to save the world.:) But the way he types on his laptop IS precious. He looks like one of the Tim Burton's gothic characters...Johnny Depp would be good in this role, I suppose.;) Rating:8.

Mostly Martha ( German film called Bella Martha)

Excellent!!!!
from Netflicks: German director Sandra Nettelbeck whips up this tragicomic tale about an uptight professional chef who finds her world turned upside down when she takes in her newly orphaned niece, Lina (Maxime Foerste). Martina Gedeck stars as Martha, whose obsession with precision gourmet cooking extends to discussing recipes with her bewildered therapist (August Zirner) and verbally attacking anyone at the restaurant who attempts to send her food back.

And as is typical Hollywood it was remade recently as "No Reservations" with Zeta-Jones and Eckhart

I can not wait to see it. Unfortunately it has not come around near where I live. There is one small theatre that shows foreign films so I can only hope.
If not when it comes out on DVD for sure.
