Enjoy Coria Enjoy..

After this RG I keep thinking about the way Guillermos takes his losses. It seems that he becomes overwhelmed with sadness whenever he loses. He raises the bar so high that being second is not good enough for him. I think about Miami when he lost against Roddick or Hamburg against Federer. He gets so sad when he losses. Not allowing himself to think positively. Do you think Coria should enjoy more tennis? What do you think?

i think it would be much easier for him to enjoy tennis if he was the best, but that's not the case. he has all these injuries and issues that keep trailing right along with him that the better players don't have (except ferrero who is not "better than him" at the moment). he needs to get a better fitness trainer and psychologist...

Yes but the cramps where due to nervousnes...so he was not injured...I think he puts so much pressure on him that physical problems start to appear.

either that or his game style is too demanding for his body...

could be both...if his mind is putting too much pressure on a body that is already playing at its limit. So by taking that pressure out will allow his body to adjust better and play with less stress.

I sincerely hope not because I love seeing him leep around the court like a gazelle :D

He has been talking with Agassi's trainer (Reyes) and also is going to get a Sport Psychologist. So that's under way as we speak...

who is happy when they lose, particularly a final?

I understand and for me was like a car crash. But he should be proud of all his achievements this year...that's my point. Not too many people make it to the final of a grand slam less make to the semis one year and to the final the other. He's come a long way. :)

A analysis by Mats Wilander in French daily L'Equipe seems to say the same thing. Before the match, he had written that he wished for Coria's victory because he was such a jewel of a player and loosing against his senior would destroy him. However, after the match, he wrote an entirely different article: he said he had never before attented a Roland Garros final and that the match was the most exciting he had ever seen. He writes: "Did you notice how Gaudio came back into the match? He laughed. His laugh changed everything. Without that laugh, he was dead. He was laughing to the crowd, to life. Coria must inspire himself of Gaudio's laugh. That defeat will make him grow if he analyses it and if he, too, dares to laugh on the court. (...) His attitude must change. He has got to stop trying to refeer himself. (..) His opponent's laugh must make him change his attitude. Before the matches you must suffer but as soon as you enter the spotlight, especially in the final, you have to forget any notion of suffering. (...) Gaudio gave everything he had (...) His laugh... I cannot stop thinking about it and thanking him. After that, I was shouting like a madman: he drove me mad!"

yes I agree - if Guillermo learns how to laugh from now on he will be an amazing player instead of judging himself. He will do it and will learn to enjoy himself and others!! Cheers!

* Well Guille was only 1-point away from realising his life-long ambition~ so he has a good reason for the disappointing feeling & heartbreak this time!

@@ Losing a TMS final like Miami or Hamburg is very different from losing the French Open final; especially when you've taken a 2-set lead only to see your body defy you just when the finish line was in sight!

Coria knows he has a fitness problem so it added extra anxiety for him, also he knew that many people judged him unfairly over the supplements scandal! Guille was unfortunate because all the passion & determination which has brought him this far (pretty good effort to be #3 in the World) were also the factors that led to him losing the most important match of his career until now>_<..

Coria probably has another 5-years or so to banish all the bad memories->> if he doesn't win RG next year then he'll probably do it the one after; or he could even surprise by winning AO or USO before his Clay favourite!!

I think Gaudio was laughing because it was all surreal for him; i mean he couldn't believe he was still in the match and the final of a Slam.. In that way it's easier to be underdog sometimes because nobody would have been surprised if he had lost the Final.
Actually for Coria it was unlucky that Gaudio played so nervously at the beginning ironically; Gaudio's poor form in the first 2-sets gave Coria a false sense of security & allowed his mind to race ahead thinking about the victory*!
I think if Gaston had played solid tennis at the beginning of the match then Coria would have paced himself better & continued fighting for every point without the added anxiety of thinking about victory (which probably contributed to the cramps)->> in that way he could have kept his focus until the job was done!!

PS~ I also suspect that Coria's lack of confidence with English may have given him added pressure/anxiety; luckily for Gaudio he didn't have to stress about making a speech incase he won..

Anway from now on I will always support Coria & hope he wins plenty more titles especially the elusive Slam. Of course the only time I will have torn loyalty is if he comes up against Hewitt~ so I don't want those two to ever face off for a crucial match such as a Slam final.

It seems he and Ale are fighting the job of Guillermo Coria's marketing manager.

I suggest in preparation for next years FO, Coria puts in the time with the English teacher rather then his fitness trainer

Maybe they can do that in the off season.

I think he should try to speak in English, his English is not good but is not bad. He could understand what the journalist said, he is too shy to try, I think.
Maybe he should learn from JCF, his English is not good though, but he always try to speak in English.

I don't blame him for being so sad because he did have two match points and anyone who loses the way he did would definitely cry, so I can understand why he was and probably is still thinking about it.
