HELLO! :) ;) :D :p

In your opinion, which 2004 slam was better so far:

Australian Open
or
French Open

I vote French, simply because i didn't get to see the aussie this year :'(

For me French Open was better because:
1) I was there
2) I am argentinian
3) The final was really amazing... (even I was cheering for el Mago)

AO was good but I think that it lacked from the final surprise..

If you are just talking about the matches, then probably French Open. But the topics on MTF about FO is driving me and a lot of others crazy... soon enough, the whining about the whining will be tiring people as well...

* AO better for me as I didn't have the 'mixed emotions' for the winner as I did at FO

-->> Safin's 5-set wins over Martin/Roddick/Agassi made it a great comeback...
@@ Federer's demolition over Hewitt/Nalbandian/Ferrero/Safin was awesome!!

However FO was certainly more memorable; a miracle for Gaudio vs tragedy for Coria..

I really enjoyed both GS:D! The Australian Open was great because Federer won it after going through a very tough draw (and got the #1 position), and it was also the great comeback of Marat:D! I also liked FO because Guga had a very good run, and Gaston's victory was awesome:)!

imo the FO really had one awesome match, the finals. the AO had a lot more great matches, so I enjoyed the AO better:D

by and large, the australian... the roger demolition of the firld had a lot to do with it, but we had some awesome matchups with safin, roddick, agassi, federer, nalbandian, ferrero, hewitt.....
french open was cool too, i really liked the final. some of the other matchups suvked though, but there were many interesting things happening throughout the tournament.

australian open for me
the final of the FO had some horrible tennis and the hyped up matches were dull (Coria v Moya) plus to many injures - Safin, Ferrero, Nalbandian, Kuerten, Nadal

Both had some great moments especially the winners, unfortunately I couldn't go to the French this year, cause I would have been able to see most of the close matches.

The FO final was a great result, though far from the best match and I liked them both for different reasons the AO had great matches, unfortunately the best FO matches weren't readily accessible on TV unfortunately.

I chose this year's RG because:

(1) I wasn't home as much as I would've liked for the AO because my Mom was in the hospital in a coma (all is better now though :) )

(2) This year's Roland Garros went my way in every way possible. And that was an improvement over '03 where Guille was my last favorite in the SFs and went out because of his nerves.

(3) THE FINAL!!!! Although my first choice was David vs. Guille and David winning. To see someone win his first Slam that who I :D 've rooted for and followed his results for five years. It was an awesome thing.

Roland Garros, because Tommy won some matches there ;) Raemon did too.. Arnaud played an epic match :)

And I am glad to hear your mom is better, Bogus Fan :p

I voted the French Open, which, apart from the final -which was simply great-, was not really cool to me. RG 2003 in general was the best slam I remember.

Australian open 4 me. Probably because I got to see so much more of it and I think overall there were better matches.

The FO on the other hand i enjoyed it alot but I think because I still have such mixed feelings about the whole thing.

RG was slightly better.
RG had atrocious calls, but Australian Open's officiating
was downright criminal. I couldn't believe the umpires' ignorance in men's/ladies' matches. Did you watch the women's AO final?

They were both pretty bad, but at least both AO champs were worthy.

I liked the AO better, I got to see it more on TV!!! And the results in AO were more to my liking too!! :)
I wouldn't complain about the RG too much though, amazing finale (despite not the top quality tennis)!!!!!

The AO for the overall quality, the FO for the drama of the final. I enjoyed them both so no real preference.

Even though I'm an Aussie, and even though I didnt get to see any of it on TV besides Lleytons quarter final demolition, I'd have to say the French Open was the better tournament

Really enjoyed the Aus open....loved the Hewitt v Nadal match, and watching Safin rise back up the ranks, fighting from marathon to marathon, and ofcourse Federers domination

BUT

Even without being able to watch the matches, I was utterly and completely drawn into the French open, partly because I just love the look of clay court matches, but also because;

- Once again, we got to see Safin fighting from marathon to marathon
- We got the longest match in the open era
- A pretty unbelievable final
and best of all
- An awesome quarter final draw...

1. The former 3 time champion, tearing past the world no.1 and coming back from surgery VS a guy who's been a consistent performer, and up there with the roddick, lleyton, federer, ferrero crew, but is still yet to bring home a grand slam

2. The Aussie hope, equalling his best performance ever at the French VS The only unseeded player left in the draw, showing the world his brilliant backhand and going further than he'd ever gone at a grand slam

3. The battle between a former champion who's been back in some of his best form VS the undisputed clay court king for the last year or so, having destroyed all those before him and looking to make amends for his disappointment at the tournament last year

4. The great Brit hope, serving and volleying his way to his best result in a grand slam outside of Wimbledon, and making some great comebacks enroute VS yet another Argentinian who'd been having a great year so far, and also surpassing his best performance at any slam

Couldntve thought up a better draw myself

Roland Garros.

The final was AMAZING. The best match I've ever seen so far (not because of the tennis quality but for the emotion etc.)

I saw better matches at the Australian Open than French Open. Roland Garros was a bit of a disappointment with me in terms of quality of play (that I saw on crappy ESPN, anyway), although I did love the result.

the australian open because i actually got to watch one of ferrero's matches from beginning to end, and because i live in australia i love the live coverage all day and night

They both had some great matches, but I voted French Open because:-

1 ) I was lucky enough to be there and watch it live (missed a lot of Australia due to the time difference and being at work  )

2) Clay is my favourite surface anyway.

3) David got to the semis, and I was so happy to see Gaston winning the final :)

Auscon, that was an outstanding post and I totally agree with it, as much as I enjoyed the Aus Open. I prefered the French Open, one it had a great result, a very dramatic final, unlike ESPN people I was fortunate to see some very good matches and clay is my favourite surface as well.

The AO because it had more great matches. Safin vs Agassi, Safin vs Roddick, Federer vs Nalby, Federer vs Hewitt, to name a few, and there were other great matches in the early rounds that i got to see live.
The FO had only one exciting match (that i got to see), which was the final, but the quality of tennis was pretty bad in that match.

aussie has some good points:
-->> Safin's 5-set wins over Martin/Roddick/Agassi made it a great comeback...
@@ Federer's demolition over Hewitt/Nalbandian/Ferrero/Safin was awesome!!

but for me it was roland garros, i managed to go there for a few days, and this was my first tournament, and it was really special that my first tournament was RG. ahh great memories for me :)

Both grand slams had plenty of blockbuster match-ups, but the ones in the Australian Open more often than not lived up to their billing, whereas the French Open was just a series of anti-climaxes -except for the final, of course.
