From a local paper:-
The QTF president was addressing a press conference at the Federation premises here yesterday.

On world number one Roger Federer’s chances of playing in the tournament he said: “We tried to get in touch with Federer but his demands for appearance in the tournament exceeded our budget.”

I doubt money is the reason.

Everything will depend on preparation for the Australian Open; court surface would be a more likely reason.

Federer each year plays fewer events it seems.

no Acceptance list for Qualifying in Doha

Why is that  Any other tournaments have the same rule :confused: Wouldn't that be costly for a player who'd like to play qualies, flies over there only to find out he doesn't make the cut  Won't the players avoid those tournaments

I think only Grand Slams, Masters and very few other tournaments have a qualifying acceptance list. But on the factsheet the players find the cut off of last years qualifying so they know if they have a chance. Last year's cut off for Doha was "byes" which means they didn`t even have enough players who wanted to play qualies

No, Auckland is using it too, which is even worse because it's so close to the Australian Open that players that progress far will have to make an adjustment quickly.

All eyes on new courts
Dec 24, 2007

Auckland Tennis will be keeping a close eye on how the new flexicushion courts play at the Australian Open in January.

Fears have been raised the new courts are slower than the old Rebound Ace courts following player complaints during wildcard qualifying over the weekend in Melbourne.

ASB Classic tournament director Richard Palmer says Auckland tennis will be sticking with the rebound ace courts for the meantime.

It's their intention to run with the rebound courts for the next two tournaments and it will be interesting to see what Tennis Australia will do if the courts aren't up to scratch.

Tennis Australia's decision to change their courts came after players wanted to see a faster surface similar to those played on at the US Open.
