IMO It can be tricky for European managers to manage a US or SA event, you have to be prepared to stay up very late or update very early in the morning. For US or South-American players that want to sent picks the night before it can be very awkard when the OOP is not posted until the following day. They are playing in their own timezone so they have a right to expect that OOP's are posted in a timely manner. I say this from experience when a European manager had to manage a US challenger.

Basically, I think US or South-American tournaments should be assigned to US/South American managers if possible.

Note that there is much less of a problem for American managers of European tournaments or European managers of Asian tournaments because then the time-difference is in the favourable direction.

well.. IMO I think that is up to the manager.. it can go both ways.. i mean, i managed mumbai and matches started something like 1 am.. then i managed other tourneys where game started at 5 am.. and finally buenos aires where game started by midday  it is tricky, i think a wise idea would be to have an assist with different time zones to post OOP in those cases (or put the alarm clock, get up, post oop , do updates and go back to sleep but only if there is no choice cos it is a bit of hell :tape:)

i think a nice rule could be taken for 2008 here (im getting the idea right now and ill try to post it on the other thread) about managing and time zones! :), to have an assist ideally from the time zone of the tourney if the manager is from other continent

I have university in the morning so with my timezone I risk not to be at home when play starts.

With US timezone I'm at home for sure when play starts (usually late afternoon) and if OOP comes out at about midnight-1am I don't have problems...

I think it's difficult to make rules based on where people live because not everyone has the same schedule or works a 9-5 job. I think it's best to just trust the managers that they know what they're doing. I will never sign up for an Asian event because I know that time zone isn't great for me. And I now know better than to sign up for Metz because the OOP for Metz always came out ridiculously late  But I really think it comes down to just having responsible managers, which is what Ville does by having managers prove themselves in smaller events first. I think most managers when they sign up, think about what will be realistic for them to do

(if its ok with you labamba :).. )

you all know I think Jeronimo is persona non grata.

He managed a tournament and showed no interest for the rules of the game. Showed no respect for the players.

A guy who starts a thread named "suck it" in General messages... don't think we need a manager with this kind of profile. It looks like he has a very bad reputation in WTA TT, I think some people who plays there can confirm - I've played just one tournament there and there were problems with him (Los Angeles).

tiptopdaisy asked first for Miami, but Jeronimo didn't even bother reading 3 pages in this thread. It shows he is not serious enough to run a tournament.

it seems there are more people asking to manage tournaments than tournaments available, so I think there is no place for Jeronimo as manager.

and I'm not sure if his 110% is enough.

:) :wavey:

how will be the Olympic Games entry for TT?? like real life? or like a normal TT tournament?

I think it should be like the real life, because some countries will have an advantage to take the medals, because maybe they have more players in the top 100.
the country (Davis Cup CaptaiN?) will have to manage the players for singles and the players for doubles.
and this will give chances to low ranked to take an spot in this countries tournament

Like Gav said, it will be close to real life, the rankings will determine the players that are qualified. I don't think the DC captains (or 'countries') should have any say on the choices, the best ranked players will have the opportunity to play. If somebody doesn't want to play then the next player in line gets a chance, etc. The other guys can play the regular tour events that week.

greatkingrat
12-12-2007, 06:51 PM
I think it should just be the top 64 players that enter the Olympics. It is not fair on people from countries with lots of players to be left out in favour of someone with a lower ranking.

Also people can just change their flag so a country limit won't work anyway.

I think it should just be the top 64 players that enter the Olympics. It is not fair on people from countries with lots of players to be left out in favour of someone with a lower ranking.

Also people can just change their flag so a country limit won't work anyway.

:yeah:
Altough I won't be able to play Olympics I think

changing flags doesn't mean anything in TT, you have to choose your nationality before the season starts and it can't be changed during the season

this wont happen. people wont change nationality.

and the olympic tournament is a national tournament.. I think per ex.
if a player ranked 50 cant play because 4 countrymates have more ranking than him, and a player with a 80 ranking enter because is the best from his country

this guy with the ranking 50 maybe can talk with his countrymates to play doubles, to give him a chance to play

What about doubles specialists who might get chosen for Olympic teams but might not in this TT world

A question about SEs: if SEs are known after qualifying tournament has started, who replaces SE spot(s) empty?? Next direct acceptance(s) (who would have already started to play qualies though) or LL?? Or will SEs not available once qualifying tournament starts??

FiBeR
12-14-2007, 06:50 AM
interesting question...as not every tourney will know if a SE will take place or not :p

many european-american tourneys with different time zones will make it hard to know if a player will be granted a SE or not

:p i think the 1st seeded in case there is no SE should be moved directly to main draw and a LL should take the first seeded spot  or a player from the qualy draw who gets a SE should be moved to the draw and a LL should replace his spot :)

im pretty sure it will be fun if we could make it as exhibition (lets say people interested in playing can play it and play an official TT tourney besides it  what about that? )

In week 2 there are only two tournaments (Sydney and Auckland), no challengers.

I think the qualification draws should be 32 minimum, maybe even larger. :wavey:

As a general rule in any week there should be enough spots available to allow most TT players to play.

I agree it's rather unfortunate that there's no challenger in week 2, but last I checked, in general, there are still free spots in most q-draws, so there's still some room to grow. But if it really keeps up we might want to add an extra challenger. There's plenty of managers, and usually there's a couple of spare challengers as well.

And about sydney + auckland, it's definitely 32 q-draw. But if you would want to expand on that I think you'd be hard-pressed to find enough ATP matches to make a TT-match competitive. Lowest ranked would play 4 q-rounds in 2 days

Hi everyone. I won't have net access at all tonight, so is there someone who could post the Qualy Saturday OOP for Adelaide? :wavey: Thank you in advance.

I'm also playing this tourney, so I also need an assistant manager to receive picks. So if anyone could help out, it would be greatly appreciated :)

Yeah when I'm around, I can post it. I'll be here "during work times" (CET), so if I come around the draw, I'll post it in the TT thread.

I can also receive picks, I just don't think I'll be around when play starts down under :p and not all players have a lot of patience these days  but if it's ok, I can do it :p

sure, it's automatic if the qualies get crowded

we'll add more challengers if needed

Auckland's qualies get crowded,
is it possible to increase it?

I don't think it's a good idea (to go larger than 32), and there's always plenty of no-shows in the qualies, so alts will get in.

Also AO qualies will be played that week...

I agree - I think a bigger qualie draw would be too unmanageable and make it more difficult to qualify. I know it's unfortunate for those who can't get in but this situation shouldn't happen too many times during the year as most weeks there will be challengers played as well :)

You can play AO Qualies + Sydney/Auckland :)

You can play both but I think Ville measn that even if you don't get into Sydney or Auckland you'll still be able to play TT as the AO qualies will be plaed throughout the week :)

Peggy, with last year's PTS rules you would have lost 0-1

You would have lost because I got the 1st set right (to Pavel) while you had all sets wrong (1st to Schuettler, 2nd and 3rd to Pavel)...

It's funny: with old rules I would have lost my first round on SR1 and I won it, whereas I would have won my second round and I lost it

Anyway you deserved it: you had better CB too ;)

I think marcelwks is the winner on PTS 4:0 as he correctly predicted the winner of the first two sets.

I think marcelwks is the winner on PTS 4:0 as he correctly predicted the winner of the first two sets.I think so too.

Although if I understand the new PTS correctly, in a match where people predict the wrong winner they also get 2 extra points for every set they give to the actual winner.

Anyway, that doesn't really affect the result in this case (both would get 2 additional points for the set they gave to Schuettler). marcelwks should win.

I'm looking for someone to receive my picks + opponent's picks in Sydney. At least for singles quallies and doubles first round.

Anyone here that will be able to help me out :awww:

Also, had a couple of questions regarding SEs.

*read something about reserving 6 Q/SE spots, but by the time the MD will be done it's already clear if there will be any SE's or not. So do I still reserve 6 Q/SE spots in the draw, or only the 4 regular Q-spots while the SE-players just go among the other direct entries?
*also, do the potential SE's have to actually request their spot, or does this happen automatically?

1. only the 4 regular Q-spots
2. It's automatic, if they don't have to change tournaments (not enough SE spots in that tournament).

I don't think that someone who's banned from TT should have any involvement in a TT tournament but if no-one else has a big problem with it then I guess it's ok
