In Cali qualifying they only played 4 matches from the 2nd round on saturday.
The remaining 4 matches from 2nd round qualifying and all 4 final matches from the qualification will be played on sunday.

Do I have to post the OOP with all possible matches or is it OK to put just the 6 matches in the OOP for sunday where the opponents are allready known? :wavey:

EDIT: I searched through the TT threats and found out that other managers have put all possibles matches in the OOP. So I will do the same. :p:

I just saw that the tennismaster lost to mago!
I think this rule isn´t fair, I mean, tennismaster did send picks, mago didn´t!

It should be like in real tennis, tennismaster was on court, and was waiting for his opponent, but he or she didn´t came!

It isn´t important, that he only had wrong picks today, as mago didn´t have any picks..
If Nadal withdraws before the match starts, it doesn´t matter how Federer would have played at that day for example, because he had no opponent!

So it should be a walkover, that´s a fact!

I agree with Ville and Murilo :tape:

Someone who sent picks but was incorrect shouldn't lose to someone who didn't send picks at all... I think it should be considered a walkover.

OK so I put tennismaster992001 as winner :wavey:

i dont agree with jess

we want the "better" picker on next round

if someone doesnt send picks but has better comeback = that one is the better player :tape: even against someone with 0/??

 though ive grown a general dislike to walkovers and people sending late.. but anyway i guess it is right either way..

i do agree with gav, a rule must be written for 2009

I just don't think someone deserves to win a tournament that didn't show up to play. For a final that means it was two days in a row of not sending picks? I mean I'm sure they have a good reason. Most people do if they don't send, but if you think about it...

if you go to play a tennis match, and maybe you're not feeling great, maybe your leg is a bit sore and you would have been awful on the court, but your opponent doesn't show up at all, you're considered the winner, even though if the opponent had come, you probably would have lost.

If that makes any sense... to me, that's why I think it is fairer

And yes, we need a rule for 2009. And it also needs to clarify the situation for doubles ---> e.g. if it's a final and one player doesn't send, does that team automatically lose the match?

but he was better than the other, even without sending, according to current rules

its like ok, someone doesnt show up..but the other keeps hitting balls outside of the court over and over ..and the other had only his plate name to stand at, whereas the other kept throwing the ball out

anyway, it is weird cos you dont have a "ranking winning" in real ATP or a "countback".. so not that much analogies can apply to this case..

:p i just think it can go both ways.. cos even though one player didnt show up..the other couldnt even score 1 point.. 1 sr point, and had a worse CB..

its a bit up to the filosophy.. if you want to grant the better overall picker the title, or if you consider someone not sending voided from the match and naming the other the winner without even checking what he sent or not

Mago won the title.
not sending picks is the same that sending picks with incorrect winners and SRs and 0 points PTS (the thing tennismaster did)
tennismaster should had did a better PTS (a 2-1 set ratio) if he was imagining that Mago wasnt going to send...

and also Mago did better CB during the week. so he won the title

FiBeR
11-03-2008, 11:32 PM
actually i think i have a point by saying, then we should check all the times finalists (S&D) in finals, which were leading, one of the team parts, didnt send picks, for the final day, because they knew they had won, and their rivals did send :p

technically the other finalist didnt show up to the final day and walkovered..am i right or am i going to some extreme? if not.. whats the point of counting not sending only when losing as a walkover and void and not when winning?

in both cases there is a walkover, even though the match is in the bag..isnt it like a bit of "retiring when winning" then? confusing text i wrote, but i think it could be understood :p

(it is currently around that thread)

if you want to become a manager, you should "mimic" all the TT threads format, or check the thread in this section for "standart looking TT thread"

all you need to do to manage is the following =
1) mimic an standart looking thread (entry list, singles draw, doubles draw, oop post, etc)
2) have a good knowledge of the Tie Break Rules (thats the hardest part IMO)

also, you can always have somebody out there to ask for help

there is always the TT board.. (5 users = labamba, gavnich77, keqtqiadv, adee-gee, troickitard) .. also you can always pm any of them if you have doubts or post it here so anyone can go and solve your doubts

then, with that, having a basic knowledge of seeding, on how to look up players in the rankings thread (singles and doubles) you re good to go :p

TT tournaments are opened around 2 weeks in advanced before the real tournament starts. From the opening time until the first sunday 6 pm CET it is first deadline, after that from 6 pm cet sunday to the friday before the start of play is the doubles deadline and second deadline.. after that u gotta make the qualy draws that same friday , post the oop, and get ready cos qualy draws (Single and doubles) start on saturday

i hope im not overwhelming you

I have a question -- in Toyota CH one player (Tomek.) who has a main draw entry-list position for singles doesn't want to play singles but only doubles.

I think the normal experience with TT is that there is an unwritten rule that you must commit for singles in you want to play doubles.

However, there are certainly good arguments for allowing players to only play in the doubles draw. For example in the real ATP players are fully entitled to do that.

I am tempted to grant Tomek.'s request. Any thoughts?

I am starting to get pissed off by players sending picks like this:

Bastl
Ti Chen
Qureshi
Levy
Okun
Borvanov
Lindahl

All 6-3 6-4

This forces the manager to manually edit each pick after copying them to the spreadsheet.

I noticed recently a lot more people are lazy and do not use the proper format (many in Toyota CH). It used to be only clowns like Jeronimo. I can deal with occasional picks like that or people occasionally having to send picks before the OOP is out, but it gets really annoying when several people do it for no good reason.

I've started to send these people PMs with stern comments that they should use the proper format.

To that seems backward. It can't be more difficult to manage an event where there is TV coverage or streams or (worst case) live scores than it is to manage one where there is none of that. Not to meantion that Challenger players in general tend to be newer players with low rankings, so fuck ups with picks are far more likely. This all indicates to me that the best and most experienced managers should be dealing with the Challenger tournaments (and the big events with huge numbers of entries, of course)

It cannot be more difficult to manage Rotterdam than Knoxville.

I think there is an established assumption within TT that challengers are allowed to be a playing ground for "rookie" managers, so a fuck-up only affects low-ranked challenger TT players. ATP tournaments with high ranked TT players are supposed to have a higher, more reliable standard of management. As you say, you could argue an ATP tournament is actually easier to manage. There certainly is some contradiction there.

You could also argue whether it's really fair that low-ranked TT players are frequently faced with poor or difficult TT management. Of course that doesn't mean ATP TT management doesn't go wrong sometimes ;)

There are more contradictions in TT; the biggest one the fact that new TT players only have the option to play tournaments with players they never heard about while experienced tennis buffs that are high ranked in TT (and many of them know challenger players better than most) only play tournaments with well-known top players. That certainly is slightly puzzling. In the past I've tried to make suggestions to partly remedy this but they were very unpopular among the TT elite.
