Why Gaudio?

These are some words of KC ( a Coria's fan): (Thanks KC!)

I was waiting this for a long time. Not only for Coria, for both. In Argentina, Coria is the most popular player but if you ask now, 90% would like to see Gaudio lift the trophy. Not only for that natural tendency of supporting the weakest, but also because we all know that this is much important for Gaudio than for Coria. Today when I saw Gastón crying, I was near to cry with him. I knew what he was thinking. In Argentina he is always critize for being a “talented looser”, a player who can only win “one set matches tournaments”. And many people thinks he doesn´t care about his own career. Many people in Argentina calls him “pecho frio”, that is to say “chicken”, or that for him is exactly the same to win that to loose. The press is/was always really bad with him when they realised he was not going to be a top ten. Now, all this is like a dream, I thought he was going to loose to Cañas in 1º round, and many people thought that, but he surprise us and himself. Now he will be in the match he wanted to be since he was 5. Today cried like a boy of 5, but was not only the emotion of being in a GS final, was like saying, ok shut up, this is for all my detractors, for all those who criticize me after every single lost. And specially he was showing himself that he can!!! The TV commentator said that he was happy for the player, but specially for the person, cause he knows him a lot and he knows that he is/was not happy with his life, cause the thing he like best makes him suffer every week, and now nobody knows what can happen, but just in case this dream is finish on Sunday, nobody can stole him what he achieved. Gaston is closest of the top ten as never, as he never imagine it, he is just 3 sets from the Top Ten. I know Coria is young and can win this tournaments many times but I don´t know what can happen with him, I just hope this gives him the confindence he always nedded. For all this, me, the first fan of Guille, hopes GAUDIO LIFT THE TROPHY NEXT SUNDAY…GO GATOOO!!!
You deserve it Gaston!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I will be very sad if Coria loses on Sunday.

There have been many players that people have said.... oh, he will have many chances to win, and then it doesn't happen. So many people were rooting for Rosewall in the same way when he played Connors at Wimbledon. They all said, Jimmy will win many Wimbledons so it's better if Rosewall wins this one. Good that Jimmy didn't share the same opinion and siezed his opportunity, because a guy named Borg hit Wimbledon and Jimmy didn't win all those many Wimbledons people had predicted.

I think Gaudio is beautiful on the court and I am thrilled that he seems to have beaten his personal demons. That's a heartwarming story. I'm delighted he beat Nalbandian, and the way he beat Nalbandian was even more admirable. So, if he wins on Sunday, it will be a great story, and a wonderful triumph, but my heart will break for Coria.

*@@* Gaston just seems more humble & a genuine nice guy!

-->> Coria has a bratty arrogant look on his face always, i don't actually know him so i can't say if it's his character but certainly gives that aloof ('i'm better than you anyway..') appearance!
Gaudio is going to be 26yrs this year & it's unlikely he'll make such a good run at a Slam again; Coria is already rich & famous whether or not he wins this years RG, but Gaudio could retire an unfullfilled journeyman if he doesn't take this chance!

After the matches are played Gaudio always has a warm handshake for his opponent; though with Coria i feel he can't help being a smart-arse (when he wins) or a sore loser when it doesn't go his way!

* I may be wrong about this, because I've changed my opinion about players before, for instance i didn't like Ferrero's attitutude when he burst on the scene->> but now I realise he's more modest than he initially appeared! Also i changed my perception about Agassi, Hingis, V Williams & others; but right now Coria seems too childish~ so I hope Gaston can claim the glory tomorrow^*@@*^!!

I will support Gaudio just because i dislike Coria deeply. I have no feelings for him. Kuerten against Chela or Henman would have been my dream final

Thats UNTRUE

There are a lot of polls (encuestas) now in Argentina.......not only in the internet and the media-papers, also on the TV, and in ALL of them ( i will give you internet adress if you ask me) they ask who do you want it to win? who will win? and MOST of the people (70 percent, 60 percent or more) answers CORIA
Also in Clarin (if you reallyl ive in argneitna you will know is the biggest newspaper there) they did a poll and CORIA take 60 percent of the votes, gaudio 20 and nalbandian (that was before the semis) 20.

CORIA IS REALLY BIG HERE
EVERYBODY LOVES CORIA HERE
MUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCH MUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCH MORE THAN GUADIO
MUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCH MUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCH MORE THAN PEOPLE LOVE HIM(coria) HERE

Thats whi I was asking why everybody hates Coria.........
You see........here in Argentina everybody loves him!!!!!!!!!!!! A LOT!

is TOTALLY UNTRUE that people here ( i live in argneitna,i always said that) is cheering for GAUDIO!!!!!!!!!!!!

GAUDIO ALWAYS DISSOPOINTED US AND CORIA NEVER DID!!!!!

People who really live in argnetina would know how the press destroy Gaduio when he lost the davis cup playing like a baby, and Coria........is one of the big IDOLS HERE

EVERYBODY LOVES HIM!!!!!!!!!

90% percent of the people want Coria to win!!!!!!!!!

Hey People who live in Argentina: please said the true about this!

I am rooting for Coria in the final but I like Gaudio too, so will be happy if either won. I'm mainly hoping that it will be a good, close final, so that the tournament is ended in style.:)

Hey People who live in Argentina: please said the true about this!

To be honest, gretel is right. At least most of the people that I know are cheering for Gaudio. They always want the weakest to win.
As regards the polls, those which were BEFORE Gaudio won, don't really count. People didn't think Gaudio was gonna make it through the finals untill he did it. So of course people voted for Coria, because he was the most likely candidate to win the crown.
But now, as, as usual, everyone wants the weakest to win, they're cheering for Gaudio.
But yes, Coria is very loved here :)

Oh and, starysox... that was a gorgeous post :)

Absolutly true, after gaudio reached the final, everyone wanted gaudio to win. Even in my class, a teacher asked who do you want to win RG: 29 out of 30 said Gaudio. And I heard it on tv too...

I also want Gaston to win...

Not only because I like him a lot more than Coria, but also because
I think that Coria will have many more chances to win the French Open in the future.
I really hope that Gaston will play more steady after this success, but I dont think he will keep on playing on this level for years. But would be happy if I am wrong :)

And of course I want Gaston to win because I want to see his reactions after the victory :) :)

People love a winner, and that's Guille. I don't like his attitude or behaviour [nor his looks but he can't help it] altho I do like his tennis -- he is v consistent and ruthless.

Gaston has not lived up to his potential... until RG04... let's hope this is a sign and a turning pt for him. He has bared his soul and heart out there and let his emotions out... perhaps this is helping him play HIS lovely tennis. It's v touching and I think he has won over some fans.

It w be a dream come true for either Argie to win RG... but it w be esp sweet for Gaston. His tennis is quite beautiful [like Rogi's] and he is more modest and not in-your-face...

I am cheering for Gaston cos he needs more support than Guille... besides, I want to see him dance the tango.

VAMOS, GASTON!!

Well I agree that Gaudio is a beautiful player and a really nice guy too, but to be "delighted" that he beat Nalbandian - a player that was so clearly ill and injured in the semi-final that he may have to miss Wimbledon - is just sick beyond belief. Dislike someone - OK - that is everyone's prerogative - but to rejoice in their defeats due to ill-health and injury is despicable.

I think it is high time I put Star on "ignore" before her pathetic anti-David comments make me angry beyond belief.

But well done Gaston - you deserved it - you did well the whole two weeks - congrats!!!!!
