Like last year (http://www.menstennisforums.com/showthread.php?t=89888), I think we should have a thread for the PAW YEC contenders to get to know a bit more bout them. This is the format im going to choose, but you can do it anyway you want. i just chose to boast about myself :p

Name: Tomás Davitt
Born: Dublin, Ireland
Lives: Montpellier, France
Favourite player: David Nalbandian (since Australian Open '04)
Age: 22
Plays: Double handed forehand and backhand (like Santoro or Bartoli)
Ideal masters series final: Nalbandian (alt) dt Federer

Highlight of season: Indoor season - won Stockholm and 3rd in Paris
Lowlight in season: Not being allowed to play Montreal cos of late commitment and Wcs being taken :o

Interesting fact: Only player to have played in all 4 year end championships
Embarassing fact: of previous 3 YEC, I placed 3rd, 14th and 15th :banghead:

How I qualified:

With disastrous results in all 4 grand slams (50th, 35th, 64th, 31st), I relied on a solid south american swing (2 QF and a semi in Acapulco), and some good master series results to qualify; 3rd in Miami, 8th in Monte Carlo, 5th in Rome and 3rd in Paris as well as my 6th title run in Stockholm

ntorcida
11-05-2007, 01:37 PM
Name: Nino
Born/Lives: Medjimurje, Croatia
Age: 23
Favourite player: Goran Ivanišević :D, but since he is retired: Roger Federer :P
Ideal masters series final: Federer def Nadal (or Djokovic)
PAW Rankings:
Entry Ranking: 12.
Champions Race: 11.

Lowlight in season: Actually, there are few :( . 1st one is my argument with Robus (I am glad we sorted things out and everything is OK :wavey: ). 2nd one is that I missed US Open and 3 tournaments from Masters Series (Miami, Montreal, Cincinnati). and 3rd one- I am sad I played only 24 tournaments, I am sure I could have been few places better ranked if I played more :)

Highlight of season: I am very proud of my GS results where I won Wimbledon, finished 12th in Roland Garros and 25th in AO. Also I was 6th in Madrid and 9th in Hamburg. In minor tournaments my best results were- 8th in Doha, Casablanca and Halle.

Interesting fact: This is my 1st real PAW season, I started to play last year in October in Vienna (4th) and played only 3 tournaments before this season.

How I qualified:
I played only 24 tournaments (6 times in TOP10, and 7 more tournaments between 11th and 18th place). I had pretty good run in GS, and with some solid results in Master Series and in minor tournaments, I collected enough points to come to Shanghai.

I hope next year I will repeat my qualification for Shanghai and I hope I will play more tournaments

:wavey:

Name: Adam Metcalfe
Born: Calgary, Alberta, Canada
Lives: Toronto, Ontario, Canada
Age: 25
Favourite players: Jarkko Nieminen/Fernando Verdasco/David Ferrer
Plays: Left handed, double handed backhand
Plays like: a UE machine with no confidence

Ideal masters series final: Federer vs Djokovic; nothing else would be very competitive. Runner-up; Ferrer vs Nadal.

PAW Rankings:
Entry Ranking: 16
Champions Race: 15

Lowlight in season: What season? I barely got to play :( Lowlight would be picking 3 winners out of 13 for St. Petersburg and finishing 22nd. I thought it would severely hamper any shot at making Shanghai, especially with the lack of playing time.

Highlight of season: Qualifying for Shanghai with only 11 PAW tournaments is quite amazing but winning the US Open as my 6th tournament is the big highlight. Happy to be a representative of Canada in the year end finale.

Interesting fact: Similar to ntorcida, this is my first season(half?) playing PAW and I'm looking forward to a fun 2008. I love the forum and the knowledgeable members. I do tennis handicapping over on covers.

How I qualified: Only Played 3 months of the season! (August to November) 6 top 10 finishes, 5th at Cincinnati AMS and 9th at Paris AMS, from 11 total tournaments and a grand slam championship capturing the US Open.

scarecrows
11-06-2007, 07:37 AM
Name: Genci Cakciri
Born: Tirana, Albania
Lives: where I was born
Favourite player: Roger Federer
Age: 25
Plays: Semi-western forehand, double-handed backhand. In general I'm agressive baseliner but I come to the net often when I have a chance and a good volleying day

Highlight of season: 2nd place in AO, I knew I had a chance to qualify after that good result
Lowlight in season: I was abroad for both IW and Miami so didnt have chance to think much of the picks

Interesting fact: First ever qualification for YEC and will play DC final for Kazakhstan
Embarrassing fact: I dont think I've skipped a single week this year

How I qualified:

2nd place in AO, 2 titles in Halle and Umag, 4th in Buenos Aires, 5th in Vina del Mar and 2 good Masters showings, 5th in Monte Carlo and 7th in Montreal

Name: Ville Talvenmaa
Born: Lahti, Finland
Lives: Lappeenranta, Finland
Favourite player: Jarkko Nieminen
Age: 25
Plays: Right-handed, double-handed backhand (which is my best shot). I try to play aggressive from the baseline, but sometimes I revert back to the grinder mode.

Highlight of season: The three titles I won (Rotterdam, Washington and Moscow), maybe Rotterdam as the best memory.
Lowlight in season: Not doing that well in the big events.

Interesting fact: Qualified for the Masters Cup in three different games here on MTF (PAW, TT, Suicide Tennis)
Embarrassing fact: the same as Genci :p

How I qualified: Winning the three titles, I don't remember any other great results this year.

Name: Robert S.
Born: Poland
Lives: K-K, Poland
Age: 32
Favourite player: Roddick, Haas, Ljubicic

Plays: right handed, one handed backhand and forehand.
Play like? I don't know. I play like me, it's a freestyle.

Highlight of season: Taking the top spot of entry ranking.

Lowlight in season: 3rd time in a raw I totally screw up Indian Wells and Miami (Masters Series).

Interesting fact: 3rd year in PAW and 3rd time qualified for TMC

How I qualified: High performance in the Grand Slams: USO 2nd, AO SF, Wimby QF, and amaizing Dubai won with 13-0 win/lost ratio.

Action Jackson
11-10-2007, 09:09 AM
Name: GWH
Born: Tromsø, Norway
Lives: Tasmania, Australia
Favourite player: Mantilla, Gaudio, Massa
Age: 99
Plays: Ambidextrous, can play groundstrokes with both hands, but serve right handed. Style of play make the opponent play worse than me.

Highlight of season: Won 1 title in Valencia
Lowlight in season: Fucking up the title at RG where I forgot to put Karlovic over Blake, whereas I actually put the bet on it, but forgot to PAW it.

Interesting fact: Was ranked at 50 at one stage this year and going backwards, but somehow made it through.
Embarrassing fact: Have never had a good showing top 10 or better in an North American event.

How I qualified: Won 1 title and had some solid results off the clay for a change.

Cervantes
11-10-2007, 11:13 AM
Name: Martijn Schrijvershof
Born: Aalsmeer, Netherlands
Lives: Maarssen, Netherlands
Favourite player: Roger Federer
Age: 28
Plays: Lefthanded, mostly from the baseline. I'm afraid I don't have the strokes to overpower my opponents, so I just grind 'm out, kinda like Nadal.

Highlight of season: Two highlights actually, I was one pick away from winning either Wimbledon or the US Open. At Wimbledon Baghdatis couldn't defeat a worn out Djokovic and at the US Open Blake obviously lost in 5 to Haas.
Lowlight in season: Judged by the standards I've set in the previous two years, this whole year actually. Although GS results were ok, the rest of the season was outright miserable.

Interesting fact: I seem to play my best PAW at the Grand Slams. I've reached top 16 in all PAW Grand Slams I've played, except Roland Garros this year. I've also reached top 5 at all them at least once.
Embarrassing fact: My only top 8 in a Masters Series Event in the last two years was in Montreal this year

How I qualified: Won Kitzbühel and qualified 6th or better at 3 of the 4 Grand Slams.

Favourite player: Oscar Hernandez
Age: 25
Plays: Like the king!

Highlight of season: i dont know.

Interesting fact: PAW is the game i pay less atention
Embarrassing fact: i havent played since LA, i think

How I qualified: reached semis in Roland Garros and wimbledon.

11-10-2007, 04:37 PM
Name: Christian
Born & Lives: Germany
Favourite players: Federer, Gasquet, Nalbandian
Age: younger than GWH

Highlight of season: The TMS in the first half of the season, first GS quarterfinal in Paris.
Lowlight in season: Everything after Roland Garros except Tokyo, especially messing up the slams as usually, forgetting to make picks on the most important day of Wimbledon (I spend too much time betting during the slams so will never do too well there I fear).
Interesting fact: Became number one before making my first career GS quarterfinal
Embarrassing fact: the same as Genci and Ville

How I qualified: Gaining heaps of points in the early TMS (after that I faltered under the pressure of being number one ;) ).

To stick with interesting facts about PAW, Nathii inspired me to get the only good result in the 2nd half of the year, the win in Tokyo :D

is it me or is this years YEC so much more stressful than usual? it seems like you cant even go for the safe 5 or 6 point bets this year
