Nadal crushes "bad match-up" Youzhny 6-4 6-2 to reach SF....

Surprisingly good from Rafa, but the last time he impressed me he got bitched by Nalbandian in his next match so I won't get too excited yet.

Some amazing shots though, the first 7 games were sublime :hatoff:

Now go make Baggy a pigeon

Nadal should thank Haas for the assist though - Youzhny clearly still feeling the effects of last night's gruelling 3 setter than didn't finish before 1.10am

Rafa always had the edge today. At times Youzhny was good but "I can stay with you" good rather than "I can beat you" good.

That was...unexpected. Misha looked really tired.

And what's the deal with Raf channeling Andre Agassi? Moving Misha side to side? :worship:

And now its up to Reeshard and Muzz. Yikes.

Nalbandian is playing significantly better than Baggy. That match was the start of Nalbandian beating 5 top 6 players within a space of 7 matches won and 1 lost.

Is this becoming a new trend here on MTF, posting before the match is over?

Anyway, well-deserved CONGRATS to Rafa. He was playing amazingly well today, a lot of exquisite shotmaking. :worship: :worship: :worship:

Kudos Youzhny  - he obviously wasn't at his best, presumably still tired from the match against Haas I guess.

Just one negative remark from me: that annoying, noisy crowd! - when will people finally understand that yelling while a player is about to serve isn't actually helping that player? :(

I hate this blue clay.

Actually clay don't reward tennis skills. Only losers who can't win anywhere else triumph at the F.O. It's like bizarro- world tennis: if you suck you're good, and if you're good you suck.

This guy simply can't lose in Paris :p Convincing performance from Rafa. Misha had his chances to equal to 5:5 in the first set.

Too bad that Misha struggled with injuries this season. Hope to see him healthy and in good form the next year :)

I said on the prediction thread that Rafa would win in straights, with Youzhny winning a maximum of 6 games - clearly I am a psychic genius.

Good match from Rafa - very pleasing.

The surface is sloooow, but all week the Sky commentators have been saying that the court won't suit Nadal it would suit the big, flat hitters (I assume because of the bounce) but all of a sudden they've decided the court is perfect for him :haha: Idiots. :retard:

RogiRafaFan86

That was so good! Still some mishits that were abnormal, but he more than made up for those with some amazing shots. I know Youzhny was tired, but he could have been fresh as a daisy and he still wasn't going to be able to return those things.

Well done Rafa! Now beat Baggy!

Does it really matter how slow the court is? Nadal beat Misha, a player he historically hasnt done well against on hard courts (Dubai 07, everyone moaned about blue clay until Nadal lost  ). So its still a great win, and Nadal played fantastic :)

I couldn't care less about the court surface, I enjoy tennis more when servefests are not an option. :) (and really when Nalby serves 18 aces, it can't be anything like clay  )

Rafa played really, really well. Some of his passing shots were out of this world.

i dnt care if its slow or fast. Its a a hard court and u dont move on a hard court like u do on clay no matter how slow it is..

Awesome shot-making display from Rafa. As some of you have already mentioned, the best he's looked for quite some time -- looks like his fitness is back to where it needs to be, obviously, it's part and parcel of his game. As in the incredible break point that took him to 5-2 in the second set. Doubt there another player in the world that could have done that. Hell, even uncle Tony looked astonished after said point...

Vamos Rafa! Y con un par!

Indian Wells was blue clay, and it seems like the IW people helped redesign this Paris court.

I think we will need a Nadal-win excuse thread. Does such a one exist

Here are some reasons I can state

1) This is blue clay
2) He bribed the officials to make Youzhny play at night
3) He bribed Haas to make it a three setter
4) He paid the crowd to shout while Youzhny was serving

The brilliant thing about Dubai back in 2006 was that quite a few people in here were moaning about the surface playing so slow, like clay. On the Talk Tennis message board, I even saw a poster seriously claim that the Dubai surface had a bit of sand from the desert on the sourt so it played like clay. :spit:

At the same time, pros like Andre Agassi and Safin were saying how fast that surface was.

Anyway, it was clear from the start that Youzhny was a bit sluggish but it was good to see Rafa hit some great shots, although his forehand down the line could use some work at the moment, as well as his serve (which improved as the match went along).

I have yet to see Fed not saying that the opponent played better and deserved the win after a match that he lost.
Anyway, it is hard to tell whether Fed likes making excuses after he loses - he would need to lose more regularly in order to see the pattern developing

You missed one or two, He vamosed at the shot you mentioned as well as another great passing shot and the final point. Frankly they were all unbeliavable shots with the MP one standing out as ridiculous. Only Nadal and Federer can hit that shot more than 1 in a 100.

i guess you are right, he improves in each & every match. he was playing so bad until US open, and now is playing decent tennis. it may be of course a question of surface (everyone talks 'bout "blue clay" :rolls:), but rafa really has an amazing skill to adapt his game to *any* circumstances (unfortunately it takes a while for him to do so at hardcourt :p).
