Not the prettiest match but Nalbs found a way to grind out the win against a player who is a difficult match up for him. That is a sign that he is focused when he needs to be and has the belief in himself.

Well done :yeah:

A draining match indeed. Great attempt by Pics... but in the end the far better player won. Nalby's on fire!

David "Karlovic " Nalbandian :p 18 aces and 0 dfs , the best i have ever seen serve together the match against Djokovic in Madrid, even he served better tonight , but the court is pretty low, made for Rafita :o

the match would have been great for a clay match but for an indoor match it was not that good

Wow, so much running... my head is spinning. Ferrer fought like a devil until Nalby finally broke his spirit late into the 3rd set. A couple of months ago Nalbandian would've lost this match - at times the only thing that kept him in the match was the serve, as Ferrer was outgrinding him in most rallies. That guy really can run until the doomsday; really incredible.

Nalby really showing he belongs in the top 5. Good win against a good opponent. I would have been really frustrated had he lost today.

Oh yes, 18 aces :worship:

Ferrer is normally about the worst matchup for Nalbandian, retrieving all of his beautifully angled BHs with amazing running speed and anticipation; only in the 3rd did Nalbandian manage to wrong-foot him a couple of times.

That he managed to rally his was to victory despite such a stubborn resilience from Ferrer is a good sign for the next year. Damn, its such a shame he never won a GS (yet)...

As boring as the match I watched in person at the US Open...well, I mean sorry not boring just bad tennis. Some of the tight moments were thrilling. I love the way Ferrer fights, he's not a shot maker by any stretch of the imagination, but how he survives on pure grit alone reminds me of Hewitt. Nalbandian showed great concentration in the 3rd set, got it done. I am rooting for him to win the title. I want to see a Nadal vs. Nalbandian final...that way I feel good no matter who wins.

Nalbandian :yeah:

It wasn't the greatest match but there were some good rallies and lots of clean Nalby bh shots . Ferrer played pretty well but I had the feeling Nalbandian was going to win it even after the second set. Fat Dave kept going for dropshots and netting them and it was driving me crazy. The postmatch hug was very nice.

Great match. :worship:

It looked like Nalba was taking a leaf out of Federer's book and trying to mix things up to take Ferrer out of his rhythm. In the end, his superior serving and volleying skills made a massive difference and kept him in the 1st and 2nd sets. He also did a good job of making Ferrer run all over the place and wearing him out completely. Who would have thought Fat Dave could outlast Fit Dave.

Not the best match for sure. Nalby's backhand was rather off, although it's hard to hit winners from it against such a great mover as Ferrer. I wonder how much energy has Nalbandian left for tommorow. This was a hard and exhausting match. Yeah, and fabulous serving by Nalby in key moments, he saved his skin with an ace quite a few times. :yeah:
Kudos to Ferrer, he fought hard and his resistance deserves respect.

The draw sucks ass  Tough battle one after another, doubt Bandy would have anything left in the final if be manages to outlast Muzza or Richie, and that's a big IF. Still Rafa is the favorite to win this.

I watched the first set and Nalbi didn't play well even though he won it in the end. But the fact that he grinded out the win says a lot of his regained focus. A win like this makes me just as, if not more, happy as when he wins playing ballet tennis. Now go all the way Nalbi! :woohoo:

nice effort on indoor blue clay against one of the better returners and "nemesis".

Does Nalbandian have any chance of making the YEC?

ETA - Scenario: Nalbandian def. Murray/Gasquet in SF, Nadal def. Baghdatis in SF, Nalbandian def. Nadal in Final. Would that be enough for Nalbandian to qualify?

Yay! So happy Nalby is on the comeback trail. Still hoping Murray makes the final here even though Nalby would probably do much better at the TMC.

No, Nalbi is out of TMC.
If everything you say turns out to happen, Nalbi will be 9th in the race and would be an alternate for Shanghai.

:To all who called this guy "FAT DAVE", I say :p. He grinded it out for almost 3 hours and looked like he could go a few more sets. Not his best tennis but he found a way to physically and mentally wear down the grinder and win the match.

And 18 ACES! Another Karlovic?

The player who is most in form and playing the best tennis will not qualify for the Masters Cup.

Nalbandian has in his last 7 matches won 2 times against the world number 1, 1 time against number 2, 1 against number 3 and 1 against number 6; that is in his last 7 matches he has won 5 times against top 6 players.

That would be a lifetime of top 6 victories for Robredo.

I thinks this match, hurted his chances to win París. Specially if his next opponent it's Murray. But either way, he did a good job. He not played his best, his bh was kinda dissapeared but after all he was playing against his great nemesis. And you know from the start, that it was gonna be a bçvery tough match.

Almost forgot; 18 aces that's a new record. Keep it up!!
