Very tense match, Misha controlled more the nerves in the end.

Haas complained about the uncountable "Davai Misha, Davai" that Youzhny yelled in the entire match

nice win Misha (i'm impressed with the self-motivation of this guy :yeah:)

Davai Misha :). His match against Nadal tomorrow will be his first appearance in a masters series QF since Cincinnati in 2005.

Just Muzza, Richie and Boredo left !!

And Youzhny. :p

Terrible match from Haas, but at least Youzhny didn't give up and was up the to grab the chances he was given.

Goodluck against Nadal tomorrow. Yes, you can do it, Misha.

Misha :yeah: great job to bust Haas out of Shanghai

now if Marcos can do the same to Boredo, it's all good

They both weren't very effective taking their chances, but Youzhny did a bit better in the last set. Typical Tommy match at the end.

They both were 3 of 12 on break points. It came down to a point or 2.
That was a long evening match, and now he plays Nadal off a short rest.

Haas played like shit on the important points and deserved to lose. He wouldn't have won against Nadal anyway...

Correct it dosen't really matter in regards to shangai coz he would have lost to Nadal 3 an3 or something there abouts

Tommy, why you let Robredo to enter into Shanghai?

This is exactly what I didn't want. Ideally, Haas would have survived as long as Robredo did, thus ensuring that Robredo was never actually #8. Then Haas could lose and step aside for Murray or Gasquet. Robredo still needs to win tomorrow, as Murray or Gasquet will gain enough points to currently pass him, but it's now his ticket to lose. :(

Youzhny needs to win the title to qualify for Shanghai. This will give him 389 points, overtaking Gonzo's 381.

Final (359) is not enough as either Murray or Gasquet will make the semi and will have more points than that.

Strangely, if Youz wins the title and either Murray or Gasquet loses in the final, the two finalists go to Shanghai instead of Gonzo.

I was just about to say this. It really has been so long! He made the QF of Hamburg in '04 and Cincy in '05 - but nothing since.

I do think he'll win tomorrow. I still believe he would have beaten Nadal at Wimbledon if he was physically 100% and his serve didn't crumble as it did in set #3. I'm not really sure if Paris is playing faster than Wimbledon or not, but Misha always loves indoors. But no matter what he's had two really great tournaments to end the year and hopefully that will propel him to great things in 2008.

That was very stupid scheduling by Paris officials. Why did they have Nadal play soooo much earlier than Haas/Youzhny? To insure that he makes the semis? I also thought it was strange that they scheduled Haas/Youzhny last for the day when it didn't seem like a big enough blockbuster.

Come on, Misha! It's not over yet and you can pull out a miracle and win it all. :D

I really would be pained to see Boredo qualify, just pained. He wouldn't even have Blake there this year to beat.

Aww. I like them both, but Tommy's screwed his chances to go to Shanghai now and it makes me sad.

I don't think Haas was mentally prepared to go to Shanghai, so it was good to see the Colonel win this one.

Keep it going Youzhny hope he can take out Nadal.

Merton
11-02-2007, 01:35 AM
Actually Youzhny will make it to Shanghai if he wins the tournament as he will move past Gonzalez. Marcos can also make it to Shanghai if he wins the tournament and the winner of Murray-Gasquet loses in the semifinal.

^ Is it just me or does Youzhny's end salutation after (winning) the match mean something? I don't see him play often and after winning against Haas and Gonzo, his salute thing was quite unique.

His dad was in the military and he died in 2002 and the salute is the thing to honour him.

Thanks, YayoMassa skadad.

Youzhny was in the zone when it counted--great backhand when needed. Hope he gets through...maybe even far enough (to win).

They were both whiny crybabies. I hope Youzhny crashes and burns tomorrow vs Nadal and no amount of antacid or piss breaks will help him through it.

Shitty match. By the end I just wanted one of them to win so I knew the result and could go to bed. Mohammed Lahyani could have declared himself the winner and that would have been fine with me.

Still, the better result for me was Haas losing.
