Coria vs Gaudio congrats there will be an Argentine winner for sure.

These two aren't exactly the best of friends, will there be any antics in this match as there have been previously.

More important who will win?

I want Gaudio to win, but I think Coria probably will.

Well that might be true, but there shouldn't be a problem getting ready for a match with someone that you dislike. He can do it, he will need to play a bit differently and be ready from point 1 Coria doesn't give away presents.

Coria is the favourite, but I hope Gaudio wins. I think he has a really big chance too, because Coria was nervous against Henman. All their matches have been 3 sets and the only time Gaston won was in straight sets so it should be a great match.
I dont think there is really any ill feeling between the two, they've had their disputes but it gets sorted out quickly, both Gaudio and Coria deny there is bad blood. With these Argentines, one day they can be at war with each other, and the next minute they are friends again.

Great belief that you have in Gaston  .

I guess I'm an idiot but I plan on having the faith & belief in Gaston until the final point is played. A side from being accused of jumping on the bandwagon where Gaston is concerned (yes, that still pisses me off because it was an unnecessary assumption made when all one had to do was check previous posts prior to RG OR just ask me :fiery: :fiery:) I have always believed in him and hoped that he would find his way to more finals.

I was the 26th vote for Gaston so right now the vote is split 50/50 :) .

IF Guille does win I don't see Gaston going down without a fight. And fight was not a word consistently associated with Gaston...until recently :D .

I just now took Gaudio in advantage by one vote. Yes, I want him to win. And if he is to bring his backhand on like what he did in this RG, he has a good chance. But surely first he should take good care of his mental strength agaisnt Coria, better not give him any chance to distract his attention or worse get pissed and impatient which I do think Coria will try to if he is down or even he is not :o Go Go Go!

First of all the question was who will win, not who you want to win? Two, I answered the question honestly as I always do and gave an honest analysis, this does not mean I want to Gaudio to lose, and that has been said many times, just like I have said many times what he needs to do to win, and how the job is not done yet.

Considering since I have been here I have been consistent in commenting objectively about Gaudio, criticising him when it was fair. When there has been a discussion about him during the times when it wasn't going well for him I didn't see any of your posts there, that in addition to the fact that you talk mostly about Alex, Malisse and Coria plus David Nalby, these were some of the reasons about that comment. I know I can never be accused of being a bandwagon jumper.

Btw, there are at least 6 others who are cheering for Gaudio, but voted Coria to win as that is most likely to happen, doesn't mean we want that to happen.

Supersonik
06-05-2004, 08:43 AM
I can see Coria using the antics for sure, if the match is tight and also it helps make him play better and tries to get into the head of the other players. I just hope Cedric Mouriet is the umpire or another strong-willed umpire for the final, as he told Coria to stop whining and when he was complaining about a bad bounce on the clay, and said "what do you expect we are playing on clay".

Well it's been a long way since 1999 and vamos Gaston get the feeling of Barcelona 2002 and show you are the man. There is one more challenge that needs to be met and it's the greatest challenge, so just go on court and hopefully Gaudio can do his best effort and leave nothing on the court afterwards, if Coria wins then that's too good, but Gato lets get ready to rumble.

To tell you the truth I don't think he can resist even if he wanted to, it's part of the theatre with Coria, and I hope the crowd are behind Gaudio and if he does get too funny with the gamesmanship I hope they let him have it.

First of all the question was who will win, not who you want to win?

And the answer is one and the same to me. I believe in Gaston so to say that I think Guille will win it makes me seem like a bit of a hypocrite. Gaston will win this and I'll say that till proven otherwise :) .

When there has been a discussion about him during the times when it wasn't going well for him I didn't see any of your posts there, that in addition to the fact that you talk mostly about Alex, Malisse and Coria plus David Nalby, these were some of the reasons about that comment.

First of all, I can't post in every damn thread every single day. I look over new threads every day and if the heading doesn't catch my eye I don't go in. With Gaston now having his own forum it will make it easier for me to post my comments. But, I have been there in scoring threads for Gaston every time. I'm not going to deny that Gaston comes after a few others but I sure as hell just didn't start cheering for him. And I have vented many times about Gaston's frustrating results in the yahoo group that I started for players.

Btw, there are at least 6 others who are cheering for Gaudio, but voted Coria to win as that is most likely to happen, doesn't mean we want that to happen.

Excuse me about the hypocrite comment. Ok, I will look at like this and give you a perfect example about why a Gaston fan would vote that Coria is going to win. Some don't believe in blind faith and are realistic, this leads to two events. I wanted Albert Costa to win RG 2002 in the biggest way imaginable, but I didn't think he had a chance against Ferrero, of course I was cheering him on and hoping that he won, this didn't mean I think he would win. This is exactly the same thing as when Denmark beat the Germans in the Euro football champs, plenty of people wanted the Danes to win myself included, but no one expected that, and that is not being hypocritical.

Btw, the Gaudio/Coria incidents have been done to death, do a search and it will come up.

Btw, the Gaudio/Coria incidents have been done to death, do a search and it will come up.

I found it several hours ago :D . And immediately remembered. I have this ability to have selective memory if something like that happens. I wasn't too happy with Guille at the time and as much as I like him now he better not pull any crap tomorrow. He's been a favorite for 2 years vs. 5 years for Gaston so I have more loyalty to Gaston when it comes to these two.

That is the big question, if Coria gets into any trouble, will he try these gamesmanship antics. I mean not the incessant line calling questioning, just need a strong umpire to stop the whining, I mean a strategic toilet break and injury time out.

Gaudio just needs to concentrate on hitting the round yellow ball and making his length and tactics are impeccable, nothing else matters.

Here is a question: if Coria wins, will people give him any credit whatsoever? I'm thinking not.

Stop dreaming like that's going to happen, yes of course every single Gaudio fan is bitter as well. :)

It's like this it can't be doubted that Coria will win RG one day, it's almost expected and that being the case there shouldn't be any argument either way. The thing is I and many people don't want him winning this year.

Coria is not Nalbandian he has more fans, within the media and throughout the tennis world, and there will be mass gloating from some of the Coria fans, which is just as bad as sore losers.

Chloe le Bopper

I wasn't pointing the finger at Gaudio fans. I was pointing the finger at the mass of people who hate Coria on here. Frankly, until Roland Garros, I didn't even know Gaudio had many fans around here, save the obvious half dozen or so. So I'm not about to stereotype a fanbase that hardly existed.

My point is that if Coria does win, all we're going ot hear is how lucky he is that this, that, and the other thing. SNORE.

Yes, if Coria wins the gloating will be annoying. And if he loses, the people who hate him having a collective orgasm will be just as irritating.

I've been a fan of Coria's since 2001, and I find the reactions on both sides to be extremely juvenile and obnoxious. It's enough to make me not want to come on here at all after the final, no matter the result. But... I have nothing better to do :D

You enjoy the theatre don't you Becca? I know in myself I am long term Gaudio fan and was the one who campaigned to get a forum for him, and I put it on the line.

Becca, well the reactions of both are reactions to each other. Some of the Coria fans will forgive everything he does and the others won't credit his results. I don't like the guy much and many of the more rabid fans don't help with that, but at the same time he has produced the goods on clay and is on the way to improving on the other surfaces.

If Coria wins, good for him.

My thoughts exactly GWH - I really, really, REALLY want Gaston to win this one - it would be a fairytale, dream-come-true for him. Unfortunately, I think the whining, whingeing one will do it though  , but VAMOS GASTON!

Well Fedex - I must admit I missed the first two sets of the match because I was too upset about David's injury to go back in and watch  Guess it was a good job I wasn't on-line here with all these people talking about him "choking" against Gaudio when I knew he was in so much pain he could hardly move and just too proud to withdraw/retire  But when I did finally get my head together (and after a couple of stiff drinks!), - yes I did go back in there and cheer for Tim :p Didn't do him much good though did it?

I couldn't help but have a little laugh (amongst all my other emotions) at the people who told me that believing in Gaston winning today was not realistic. Including the person who told me I was a bandwagon jumper, the one who should've believed in him most .

Even when he was down those 2 sets I never gave up hope on him. I knew that if he could just overcome those nerves the match would be is. Gaston gave it everything he had in the 5th and I couldn't be more proud of him!! I hope there will be a day in the future when I can tell him that.

An added bonus to today? If he can stay in the top 20...he goes to Houston!!!! :bounce:

Then you missed the 2 sets in which Henman was thrashing Coria, hitting winners effortlessly, until Henman misses a volley on break point, and losses 13 games in a row, therby Choking!! :( Thank God Gaston, beat him today! *phew*. :D

I decided to bump this up. It was interesting that Gaudio got more votes, and this was the fact that some Gaudio fans voted for Coria to win this match.

I loved it actually - especially when the choker (who is no longer a choker of course - he is a Grand Slam champion :worship: ) - beat the cheat - who is still - well - OK - don't want to start another war here......... :p
