We need more animosity between them to keep things interesting. ALthough.... Djokovic is filling in that part nicely, so maybe we don't.

So if someone does something like that but still loses, its ok?

If you're going to do that or call someone out or whatever, you better back it up with a W. Anyone can mimic Nadal or talk shit in interviews. Backing it up with a win isnt as common.

Didn't Nadal just open this back up again though, in his interview? Either both can do it, or neither can- you can't just delineate because of a win on a tennis court.

Yes, it´s ok! It´s got absolutely nothing to do with winning or losing! You wouldn´t be saying something as stupid as that if you were supporting someone ranked lower than Nadal. But maybe that´s exactly why you support the 2nd ranked player...Nice to be on the winners side...

If Soderling has said something along the lines of himself being a better player than Nadal, then yes, he should back it up with a win. But he was talking about Nadal's gamesmanship, a topic that all MTFers discuss all the time even though none of us has beaten any player in the top 100.

Thats just how i feel. Maybe we see it differently, and thats just fine. But to me, if in sport, you feel the need to criticize a player or team for any reason, back it up with a win.

What are you talking about? I support tons of players lower ranked than Nadal, just check the siggie. I dont support players who do things like that in the first place, but if he did, i would expect him to win afterwards.

And no, that isnt why i like Nadal, because hes high ranked, idiot. I've watched the guy and followed him since 03. Nadal is the most hated player around here by far and anytime the guy puts even a toe out of line, he gets lambasted for it.

If Soderling has said something along the lines of himself being a better player than Nadal, then yes, he should back it up with a win. But he was talking about Nadal's gamesmanship, a topic that all MTFers discuss all the time even though none of us has beaten any player in the top 100.

Again, we just see the situaton differently, no problem at all with that. :)

Nothing new, to be honest.
Rafa has asked Roger to play doubles with him a year ago already (before Madrid 2006, correct me if I'm wrong) and has never made a secret of his admiration for Fed - on his own website it says that Roger is his most admired player.
That animosity is something that exists between some of their more short-sighted fans (or should I say 'tards', here?), not between the gentlemen themselves.

And ah, Rafa - nice to hear he indeed does NOT like Söderling, heheh. I can't blame him. He looks like a toad, no? :p

If there was any problem after the infamous Madrid 2006-incident, both players have dealt with it thereafter in the way mature people should be able to fix a problem between them.
Berdych has commented that in Wimbledon, Rafa was one of the first to come and congratulate him with his victory in Halle.

Be fair - he's improved massively fashion wise this past year considering how far he had to come. I haven't seen him in neon/citrus horror for ages. I award him an "A" for effort. The jacket he was wearing was nice, but he seems to have taken it off for the quick questions.

If any non-French/Spanish speakers need a loose translation.

Q: Why do you bite you trophies? To make sure they're not fake?
Rafa: It's normal to hug them, but I have usually bitten them. I hope to continue to bite them in the future.

Q:Which player would your like to play doubles with?
Rafa: Federer

Q: Which player would you not like to play doubles with?
Rafa: Soderling

Q: Can you show us your left bicep? And your right?
Rafa: (giggles)

Q: Have you already tried the french kiss?
Rafa: No  Carlos is hurt!

Q: What is your war cry before a match?
Rafa: Bah bah

Q: Can you give me the name of your hotel and your room number?
Rafa: Hotel? Scripe, room... Come quickly because my girlfriend (fiancee) is arriving tomorrow.

Cant agree with you on that. Tennis wise, Federer and Nadal have only two things in common: they both win a lot and they both are really commited to their jobs. It doesnt take a Fedtard to dislike Nadal's game: hell, if there was no Roger playing tennis, I would still cheer against Nadal.

So, Federer and Nadal might love each other. I really dont care about it, and it wont change my opinion about Nadal. Even beign a big Fed fan I dont have to agree with him on everything. I like Djoko/ Nalbandian better than Nadal, even if Roger doesnt seem to be particularily in love with those two ...

About Nadal and Soderling: at least Nadal didnt give the clichê answer: "Oh, I love everybody, someone hug me". Cudos for Rafa for giving an honest answer!

My problem isnt you liking caviar and fish-'n'-chips. My problem was you saying that liking one and disliking the other is short-sighted ... actually loving caviar and disliking fish and chips is no crime too. But I know what you mean, and I am just moody and nitpicking.

Heheh, I won't come up with another food analogy - I'd better leave THAT to RonE and CMurray, for instance - they are the REAL stars in this particular matter.

Nah, I think you got me wrong (or it's my poor way of expressing myself, of course) - what I meant to say that I think it's short-sighted that some people seem to think that on-court rivals can't - or should not - appreciate each other as persons off-court, and in such manner think it's necessary to condemn player A if you'd want to be considered a 'true' fan of player B (and vice-versa of course). Hope I made myself a little more clear here. ;)
