Tsonga defeats Grosjean 6-3 3-6 6-3

Interesting battle of teammates.

Niec match, Tsonga started to do lots of UE in the second set but managed to win the third by serving well.

Ali played very well in the third set :yeah: I'm surprised with his footwork because in the 2nd set he was looking tired.

I really hope he can improve his conditioning. He's not suppose to look tired against grand-pa Grosjean. Small steps though, he was able to beat him this week.

Seb looked tired in the 3rd, it was good to see Tsonga keeping up the pressure in the 3rd after suddenly getting broken and losing the 2nd, these little things are signs of growing experience and confidence, very encouraging.

Shouldn't be too surprised. Ali Sr. always had excellent footwork. Floated like a butterfly and stung like a bee ;)

They both looked like they'd just come back from war by the third set but Tsonga livened up and got the job done well.

Grosjean has happy memories here and his volleying tactics were good but he didn't hit them well enough in the third set and kept giving Tsonga chances to pass.

I thought Grosjean's best tactic was to run down everything and let Tsonga beat himself. He didn't have the stamina to keep it up though and most of those net approaches near the end looked pretty tired and desperate.

I thought Grosjean would continue his winning streak after winning Lyon.

Tsonga could be the French hope he is charismatic and has a fluid game that as he grows in confidence he is a top tenner and might even surpass Monfils and Gasquet, he is definitely growing in confidence.:worship:

Isn't he just called Baby Ali because he looks like a young Cassius Clay? I don't see why that is "nonsense"- imo Tsonga does resemble Ali in the early 1960s. I don't see why he needs comeupance just because he happens to look like someone and has a nickname because of it- but maybe that is just me.

Anywhoo- some nice stuff by him in the last set. Hate his new earrings though. Odd to see Grosjean without a cap.

I just love Tsonga, even if I do recognise the weaknesses in his game. Good luck against Gasquet!
