Amazing performance by Baghdatis to beat Ferrero in straights :worship:

Served well and cleverly, good selection of shots and angles and solid play on break points.

He is back at last :woohoo:

stupid tactics from ferrero. the chances he had on baghdatis' serve, he kept hitting the stupid jumping backhand crosscourt right into baghdatis' best shot, the down the line bh. winner every time.

:woohoo: I feel bad for Juan Carlos but Marcos needed this much more.
He's been quite in a slump lately so every win counts for Marcos! :yay:!

Good luck against however you play against next!

He usually hates to play at this time of the night
And nearly no drama at all tonight!
He seemed to be a hurry. He either wanted to go to sleep or had a date ;)
Well done Marcos :yeah:

A tactically poor match from JCF unfortunately, and this is the end of his 2007 season, but well done to Marcos.

ah JCF... didnt take any of your bp's and didnt save any of Baggy's bps...
at least it was a better season than last year, and hopefully JC can move up a gear next season

well done to Bags, start finding some consistency!!

Next match against Ljubo :D

The most important aspect of this win for me is that he returned the 2nd serves well inside the baseline (at last), he adjusted his 1st serve so that he has a good % (at last) and he played the important points excellently well without any sign of choking or haste (at last). He also served some aces on break points.

I hope the choking is over at last :yeah:

Sucks for me that these two had to play each other so soon :(

Hopefully Baghdatis can do some damage here and not just crap out in the next round.

Good and solid from Marcos and he continues from where he left in Basel :yeah:

Very well played by Baghdatis. He looked very energetic and focused out there, served very well and played the big points to perfection. I hope he goes deep.

JCF on the other hand didn't look totally motivated or focused but he was unlucky to find Baggy in this kind of form. If he'd caught him a few weeks earlier it might have been a different story.

Shame JC didn't have much impact on Baggy's serve except that beautiful return ace in the final game...
Well at least he looks hot and younger with that new hair cut!

Good luck to JC in 2008!

If he plays like this , he will destroy Truba.

Just came back from the match : it was really a good performance by Marcos, the serve was working extremely well, often above 205 km/h, he was also very solid from the back of the courtand used the down the line shots to great effect to turn defense into offense etc... Really nice to see

Bah.

Come back strong in 2008, Juanqui

Much more importantly, JC is back to his 2001/2002 short hair, which makes him look much younger and hotter. He should keep this look.

Embarrassing from JCF to get only 6 games from Mugdatis.

Ferrero was more interested in his summer holidays than this match.

Baghdatinho served very well and minimal foibles on the second serve from him which is the key for him. It was a good performance for sure, but a lack of perspective is often the case. Marcos plays well and he's back and he has a poor performance and then he is a total hack.

You know what? I love JC but I'm not going to let that cloud my logic from now on. He's a top 30 player, nothing more. He hasn't been for years now and until he does anything to show that he's still capable of that kind of form (which is a one in a million shot as far as I'm concerned), then I won't let his torrid results disappoint me anymore.

His last title came more than 4 years ago. One GS QF since February 2004. We're only deluding ourselves by thinking he'll ever even crack the top 15 again. This is just one of those times when I'd love to be wrong (they don't happen very often), but I know I won't be.

Ferrero never looked like getting back into it after he lost the first set, unless if Baghdatis had lost his concentration. Baghdatis got better and better as the match went on and was very impressive by the end.

Ferrero probably was more excited about the holidays than the match. And VolandriFan, don't give up on him yet. I'm still hoping that JC can make it back into the top of the rankings.

However, I'm devastated about the hair. It makes him look so much older:(

This sucks! I can't stand Marcos for some reason. His Aussie run last year really bothered me. He should've been out in the second round against Steps. Seemed like a waste of a spot in the final. Nalby would've made that match much more interesting. JC...you disappoint once again.

Yeah massive waste, I mean he couldn't even get the double break in the second set against a clown like Federer

Steve Tignor predicted that Baggy would come out of the third quarter. I really hope he does that this one time
