I watched a bit of the second set, Dima's attitude was spot on I thought, really showed why hes so good. I also noticed why hes known as the master tactician, hitting it to Fishes' backhand and letting him hit DTL winners.

Fish served better, and that serve kept him out of trouble. It was a very close match until 67 44.

Fish played well, Dima meltdown after losing the first set breaker his attitude was bad.

The court is too slow.

I noticed that too - what in the world did they do to it? I remember other years, the ball was sliding around like it was a hockey puck.

Mardy :yeah:I noticed that too - what in the world did they do to it? I remember other years, the ball was sliding around like it was a hockey puck.the commentators were saying it's a completely new court this year, just totally different surface. Don't know why they changed it, but it's just moooore slowing down of the sport :sobbing:

Mardy does something right for once, woot! Nice job taking down the blogger king, Mardy. Keep going. :drive:

As I have said elsewhere, it used to be that the players had to adapt their game as best they could to the surface, but now it seems the surface is expected to be adapted to the players.
I agree. It's an offensive practice. :o

20 aces in 2 sets on a "slow" court from Fish. That is 20 out of 84 service points. How many were actually returned in court!

Consider if the court was fast.

It's not slow. It is slower than last year by a noticeable amount, though.

Agreed.

But when somebody like Fish is serving around 10 aces a set on this court it appears that anything faster may generate too many serving contests.

Wow that's shocking, well done to Mardy though!

If Tursonov had 10% more intelligence in his game it would make such a difference. Even if it still only meant his game was 10% intelligent :tape:

At first the court seemed REALLY slow, like Hopman Cup slow, but as the day progressed it seemed the court wasn't as slow anymore. Probably just my eyes. But I recalled that these two played Hopman Cup earlier this year and Tursunov got really bitchy from playing Fish and being unable to break serve that day either. What do you know, the same thing happened today too. He clearly hates playing Fish.

But it was a very bad match from Tursunov. Fish just held serve and let Tursunov self-destruct. Embarrassing stuff from the latter. He picked his nose in the camera lens at one point.

Did I miss a beat or have a bunch of posts been deleted off this thread?

they've mysteriously become a new thread. I knew the mods could combine threads, didn't realize they could or should split them up.

Oh well - it's a world of infinite majesty and wonder, isn't it.

To keep this thread back on topic, which I'm sure was the point, yeah I get the feeling Dima doesn't like playing Fish either.

I think Dima just doesn't like playing tennis when his wild winners aren't working.

Fish has been serving like a beast. didnt he hit like 40 sth aces.

i would wait for another person to serve much bigger than they usually do before concluding this surface is "fast". to me it seems like the slice is floating and players have lots of time to hit shots.
