Not sure why Roger is going to play in Paris?
The only reason that can be making sense to me..... trying to add points to protect his no.1 entry ranking for year 2008!
Still... my opinion.... should not be overplayed when it's unnecessary!

Fed gets some bonus if he plays doesn't he?

I doubt he'll win anyway... 3 weeks isn't like him.

In Basel he announced that he is going to play, but it seems that he has quite a nightmare draw. First Karlovic, then Nalbandian, Berdych/Ferrer, Djokovic/Murray till the final. All hot and in form players. If you look at the seeds Federer's Half seems much tougher than Nadal's. And Federer had no rest. Wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't get that far.

Remember what happened last year when he decided to withdraw from Paris? Basically everyone was whining and bitching about it. Imagine he would do it again...

He is going to have nearly a week off before Shanghai should he make the final in Paris

How much time does he want off? I don't understand why he would be tanking here especially seeing as he has never won here, unless I am missing something.

jep..good reason I would say. i would do it;)

Plus he said he already booked the hotel and the whirlpool and that therefore there is no way back or something like that.

Going to paris to check out some whirlpools and to get 1.5 mio $ seems reasonable...

If Federer wins Paris, TMC with the bonus he stands to be tennis' first $10 million man.

I apologize if this has been answered somewhere else.. but why is he getting a $1.5 million just for playing paris?.. thanks in advance for the answer.

He should play because Paris-Bercy is the only Masters Series event where he wasn't in the final (he hasn't reached even semifinal there!). The draw looks like a "nightmare" but it's only a theory. Karlovic can lose to Verdasco, Nalbandian can do it the same against Moya, etc.

Federer will not win any tournament at Paris during his career(and either the Davis Cup) :)

Roger has quite a few reasons to play here actually. 1) He would be hurting from Madrid 2) he has never won Paris 3) it is a legitimate chance to increase his lead over Nadal and put himself under less pressure during the clay season.

Really if Roger can't play a few weeks in a row after a 6 weeks break then it takes away from his greatness as an athlete in my opinion. The Masters Cup is week after Paris ends so it's not like he's going to be rushed in any event.
