Lyon Final: Grosjean d. Gicquel 7-6(5) 6-4

10-28-2007, 03:48 PM
I wonder any gas left in the tank for Grosjean in the doubles. Plus he gets a WC into Bercy next week.

10-28-2007, 03:49 PM
surely thats the first time someone has won a title at ATP level by beating 5 people from the same country

Santoro, Tsonga, Gicquel, Benneteau, Cadart.

Bit of a mickey mouse title if you ask me :o

Great forehand to win the title. He served very well and Gicquel fails again in Lyon.

Well done Seba! Hopefully he can improve his ranking next season...shouldn't be too difficult. :o

10-28-2007, 03:51 PM
first title in 5 years and only his 4th

10-28-2007, 03:52 PM
Wow, beating five Frenchmen in a row. That's sort of boring.

Congratulations to Grosjean for ending his title drought though. It hasn't been a good year for him so this will help.

10-28-2007, 03:53 PM
I won't miss the commentators on TLM ...
In 20 seconds they told " there were 8 french out of 14 players in 1/8 and finally the French number 2 won the tournament "

10-28-2007, 03:56 PM
Allez France! Allez Gicquel! and congratulations to Grosjean! :yeah:

Grosjean wins the battle between him and the rest of France to take Lyon. Well deserved and shocking really that it is just a fourth title.

10-28-2007, 04:06 PM
Well done Seb. :D

10-28-2007, 04:07 PM
Seba :yeah:

10-28-2007, 04:10 PM
Good win for the french inside out fh player. :) Hopefully this will help him to climb up the ranking and gain a more fitting ranking (top 20-30 at least).

10-28-2007, 04:13 PM
lol wtf has anybody seen the draw for Grosjean in Paris? It's pretty much all French again ahaha

10-28-2007, 04:16 PM
Congrats, Grosjean!! :yippee:
The FH pass on the 3rd MP was just fab!
And he looked so happy when he won.
It was a good final. Both guys fought hard till the end.

10-28-2007, 04:39 PM
well done, finally a title :yeah:

10-28-2007, 04:47 PM
Alleeez Sebastien :rocker2:  :rocker2:

One of the most talented players out there, just so small :)

10-28-2007, 05:01 PM
Allez Grosjean! Tres formidable!

"I lost the feeling to win a tournament in 5 years so I'm really happy to win today especially as it's in France", Grosjean said. "I remember my first time here 10 years ago so I just hope that I won't have to wait another 5 more years to win because I don't think in 5 years I will play."

10-28-2007, 05:30 PM
Gicquel's behaviour was really poor. He acted like a spoilt child when close calls didn't go his way and he threw hs towel at umpire Grilloti's chair at the end knowing full well the guy had just umpired his final match after 23 years.

"He (the umpire) did some mistakes today, but it was his last match today. What can I say? It is difficult to be on the chair."

10-28-2007, 05:36 PM
:D I hope Sebastian can get a few more titles before he retires.

Great week. Beat some more Frenchies next week. :rocker2:

10-28-2007, 05:51 PM
grosjean is playing his best tennis on french soil

10-28-2007, 06:14 PM
Grosjean just won the doubles with Tsonga 6-4 6-3 v Kubot/Zovko. Allez!

10-28-2007, 06:21 PM
Bad luck for Łukasz, but it's nice to see Seb finally winning something

10-28-2007, 06:23 PM
Well done Seb, this title saves a down year for him.

big congrats for Seb

another golden oldie on his way back, tennis weeks just dont come better than this week for me :D

10-28-2007, 06:42 PM
It is really quite unbelievable that this is only Grosjean's 4th career title. You would expect a player who has been so successful would be closer to double digit titles. Much less accomplished players like Blake, Robredo, Ljubicic, and many others who have done far worse at the slams then Grosjean have many more titles.

10-28-2007, 06:49 PM
woohoo!! Sébastien!! i'm so happy :D very well done :)

10-28-2007, 09:25 PM
first title in 5 years and only his 4th
it always does my head in that grosjean has won so few titles in his entire career
congrats on no. 4!!

Seb's 4 titles all on fast courts - this one after a 5 year 5 final losing drought.

2000 Nottingham Grass
2001 Paris Indoor
2002 St Pertersburg Indoor
2007 Lyon Indoor

10-28-2007, 10:30 PM
Woop well done Seb :) :) Great win :) Nice to see him back to proper winning ways. Really like Gicquel so pleased he got to the final, would've been nice if he could've pushed him further though

Well done Captain Backhand.

10-29-2007, 12:47 AM
His first title in five years. Mickey Mouse or not, it's a great win for him. He could've lost to any of the players he faced but he hung on. Well done, Seb. :hatoff:

10-29-2007, 01:35 AM
