Rather poor match, especially the second set: errorfest galore! :(

Whatever. Congrats Rogelio, with your 2007-#1 spot! :hatoff:

nice properly won't need to go to paris now after winning Basel and clinching the number spot for another year.
The most consistent player of the year again, proving again after he loses a match he wins the next tournament and his conquerers losing in the first round.

Very impressive. He is been in the finals in almost every tournament he has entered since his loss to Volandri and winning almost all of them.

He won 5 and lost 3, not barely any. But still impressive, he has not lost before the finals since then.

Congrats on the title and YE #1, Roger! If it's better for the TMC, he better withdraw from Paris, but I wish he didn't.

Good to get the job done quickly and wrap up #1 although the match itself was somewhat disappointing. Still nice to see some S&V by Roger and his touch was good for the most part.

He's got #1 locked up for the year. I'm sure he'd rather be fresh going into Shanghai. Paris doesn't have the massive withdrawls like it did last year so whether he shows or not isn't a big deal, IMO.

Some nice volleying, but his baseline game is :help:. No way is he going to beat Nalby in his current state, if he doesn't retire from Paris.

Actually the majority of french people over 12 years old prefer federer, so I'm sure Pioline is still praying for Roger to come.

Shouldn't it be "Calender Year" number one instead of "Year End" number one?

Just a thought.

should have been 5 consecutive #1 years for FED already;)
...A.Rod was very lucky to finish 2003 @ #1 just a few points ahead of Roger!!
in 2003 FED only needed to win one more round @ Madrid or Paris to finish #1

It was his own choke in the one loss of his life to Roddick that did him in. So, bad luck to him, he learnt from his mistake. But it's a tough one to swallow in retrospect when you see how a handful of points separated him from Pete's record by just one year.

The match lasted only around an hour. There is NO excuse not to play Paris now.

Nevertheless, he usually if very rarely plays three tournaments in a row. He really should withdraw and arrive fresh and hungry for Shanghai defense. Then again if he loses early in Bercy he'l still have time to recover and be fresh for Shanghai. Nonetheless, that would mess up his win loss record for this year. ;)

Basel is one of the 6 most important events for Federer on the tennis calendar alongside the 4 slams and the TMC, so he'll be delighted to have won the title in his home city for the 2nd year in a row. I don't support Federer at all but it would have been a farce had anyone else claimed the year end no. 1 spot instead of him.
Congratulations to the Shark for an excellent week, and reaching his 1st ATP final for just over a year.
