Could be, Filip's body language is not so good, lot's of UE's as well. He broke, got broken back and whenever I check he is kind of giving easy points away.

Gusztav
03-09-2012, 12:18 PM
As I already mentioned above, couldn't really follow it point by point, but I'm pretty sure that Sadecky won because Filip lost the last point before the handshake. The whole thing went kind of fast and it's possible that he retired. The result is still not up because his match was moved to court 1 and live score "got confused".

Sombrerero loco
03-09-2012, 12:26 PM
yeah i think he retired or got almost bagelled or something, i was watching the tiebreak and then fico won first game on second set

Gusztav
03-09-2012, 11:09 PM
So, as we suspected, he lost by retirement (7:6, 1:1 Ret.).

No idea what the problem was, hope it doesn't have to do with his wonky shoulder. I accidentally saw the last point and everything looked normal... then suddenly the handshake.

Hi guys.

Any news of his injury? Just hope that it is nothing too serious. It would be devastating for him

Gusztav
03-12-2012, 03:17 PM
Got some unofficial info on the injury - he twisted his ankle during the match and didn't want to risk making it worse. Nothing serious, it appears. After a week off, he'll be ready to go and try to qualify for some challengers next (according to a poster there).

I think that I've seen the point when it happened, as a remember a moment where he just disappeared from the screen, being stretched wide on the deuce court and was kind of checking his leg and dusting himself off after that. The fixed POV on the live cam kind of sucked, didn't see the possible fall itself, so that's that.

That sounds logical to me. Players coming back from a long pause due to some heavy injury, usually pick up numerous minor injuries in the initial period, because of overall body readiness.

Fog had a stress fracture in his foot and didn't play anything after AO. His lack of match play is a chance for Filip, a very small one.

Filip just breaks for 2-1. :rocker2:

*And he consolidates for 3-1. Fog is atrocious, can't keep a ball in court and Filip is just kind of rallying, nothing special.

Gusztav
04-03-2012, 03:22 PM
And 4-1 for Filip on a DF from Fog. Things are going good, without him having to do anything extraordinary, hope he keeps his head in check.

Yeah I saw the match and it was so up and down. Fognini was making a lot UE in the beginning and Filip was steady and served well. Later Fognini raised his level and Filip lost a lot of close games in the start of the second, what a pity.

In the Filip broke Fognini at least two times and had been serving to even the score at 5/5 but he got broken again. His inability to hold in the 3rd was his doom. Really a match he could have won

And the winner (6:3, 6:3) is Fiiicaaa!!! :worship:

Couldn't really see the match, there was only a small part of the court visible from the court 1 cam, but it looked quite clean to me. Only bit of a hiccup, getting broken at the start of the second set. Ultimately, Konecny didn't really have anything to hurt him with.

If they keep things according to the OOP, Filip will have to play another match later today, against Fischer who had an easy job, blasting Dubail (6:1, 6:1) in 45 min. earlier in the afternoon. TBH I'm pessimistic about that one, hoping for a surprise though.

Kiman

Takes the first 6-4. Had a small hickup at 5-2, starting with his ace overruled, where I think Fischer pointed to wrong mark and ump bought it. In last game he fell pretty hard on nothing but his operated shoulder! But it seems completely fine.
Fischer plays too safe, and other than his fine touch and volleys, if Filip keeps concentration, I cannot see him harm Filip.

Kiman

The match obviously went much better then I hoped for. Even with Mannarino match rusty and all, this is still a very, very good win for Filip.
Now, let's see what happens against Huta Galung on Thursday. Started the year well but then kind of sucked last 2-3 months. Still, as someone who has won 80% of his titles on clay he'll be a very difficult nut to crack.

Really good tournament for Filip, lots of positive things. He is not ready for this type of match.... yet. First set was really of high quality, strong hitting from both. I expected Jesse to make a bit more errors under those conditions, but he was too good today. Retired today at the end of first set in third qualy match of Milan challenger due to back pain.
And this coming after a god-like display in previous two matches. His first opponent, whom Fica defeated 0 and 0, had only one game point in entire match (in 9th game). Played wonderfully Q2 match yesterday, forehand - deadly weapon, backhand - synonym for precision. Winner, after winner, after winner, from both sides. What a joy to watch it was!

I hope that he retired today as a precaution. After being so long out of the competition recovering from shoulder injury and surgery and after coming back in style, another injury would be horrible thing to happen. Undoubtedly, staying healthy is, and should always be, imo, top priority.

Its wierd. He's had some good comeback wins, but sometimes he does throw in the towel. Against Odesnik at Wimbeldon, he simply gave up once he lost the break in the decider. His body language was simply awful. And he was well on top in the match earlier.

I'm usually optimistic, but i'm starting to come to the conclusion that Filip is going to have no chance of fulfilling his potential. Even top 100 looks unlikely. It's impossible to build up any momentum when you're injured 80% of the time, no matter how talented you are.

I know someone on here disagreed, but having spoken to a sports trainer, I'm convinced part of the problem is his management team making him play so many clay court tournaments when he was young. When you play on clay, you have to hit the ball harder to make it go through the court quicker, and this puts more strain on the body. If you're a powerful youngster, it's not going to hurt, but Filip was like a stick when he was 17/18, and didn't have the physique for so many heavy clay court tourneys.

Such a shame.

Springer89
07-31-2012, 06:30 PM
Have a little faith :). Just look at the current rankings: How many players who played less number of tournaments than Filip did are ranked better?
Exactly. ;) As he said in the video below, he's still young, plenty of time ahead of him.

Players got injured. Wheter managed by team from their tennis academy, or by their parent, or by a relative, or a team they hired. I'm not defending his team, just saying that it might be like you wrote but it also might be not be so; I mean, there's a doubt. Furthermore, I'm more convinced that managing according to saying "what's good for the goose is good for the gander" is damaging.

Springer89

An interview with Filip at RG :)
(my apologies for English language butchering, corrections are more than welcome :wavey:)

W_98lIvBwQU

About his RG R1 match he said that his opponent had played tactically perfect match and returned every ball. About his own game he said that he'd been defensive, that even though he'd served over 200 and at the spot he wanted to, balls were coming back and that match was played fantastically by his opponent. "

He said that he hadn't expected to reach GS MD and that he's ultimately satisfied with his results at this tournament; that he didn't believe he would be able to win against such good players so soon on his come back after being away for more than a year. But, on the other hand, he's never satisfied with himself, same here on this tournament too.

About the injury: That there's a lot of playing he missed, but if it had to happen then better sooner than later, that there's still time, he's still young and that, with his game, he will return to where he should be and have the results people expect him to have. He'll continue to work hard and that even better results will soon follow.

Tristanslav

Hey, I have faith :). Agree about the rankings - but with a ranking of 400/500, if that's because you're injured 80% of the time, it's irrelevant - you're still ranked at that place. Looking at players above him who played less tournaments only shows one thing - that Filip has potential to be ranked higher (during his French Open run he was probably playing at the level of 100-120), but he won't be if he's unable to build momentum because of his injuries. He's played 6/7 tuornaments for a reason - because he's chronically injured. Until he becomes injury free, he will continue to play 6/7 tournaments a season, and his ranking won't improve.

What I'm trying to say, I guess, is that I have complete faith in his talent. I watched him live a few times as a junior, and he has a LOT of talent. What I don't have faith in, is his body - he's not managing to stay fit for an extended enough period of time to develop his career. He's missing out on experience of matches and tournaments which can mentally make a player. I'm worried that by the time his body works well enough to play consistently, he'll still have an undeveloped match mentality, and his development as a player will be 2-3 years behind where it should be. And in short careers like tennis, that makes it much more difficult to achieve what you can.

I hope i'm wrong, and it was nice yesterday to see him listed on the qualie entry list for the US open, but there's not a whole stack of players who don't have any kind of breakthrough before they're 21, who go on to have top careers.

He's been injured, out of competition for more than a year, was doing pretty well until got injured again. He's under enormous pressure. The way I see it, he's doing his best. Filip has just got a new coach. IVAN LJUBIČIĆ and as part of the team, Riccardo Piatti

A good team around him will surely help him. Just he needs to stay healthy and things will go right for him

Same opponent and hardly same price...

Begin to wonder weither our Filip would become another flop from Bolletieri Inc. (Too much work as a youngster) and join Arias Krickstein or (in a way) Haas in the "Could have been a far better player" flock.

Ive been saying this for about 18 months now. A friend of mine who is a sports physician said he believes Filip played way too much on clay when he first started playing, which put strain on his body, leading to injuries, and as a result, his development has been harmed. It's much worse for a player to be injured when they're younger, these are crucial, formative years. He's pretty much playing at the same experience level as players 2 years younger than him now, and at 20, that's a huge difference.

Sombrerero loco
01-23-2013, 10:23 AM
well clay is useful to get injured less than playing on hcs  plus he got injured on back-shoulder i think, so i dont think its clay the one to blame about it anyway!

Crvena Zvezda

IMO The one to blame is Bolletieri Academy that produces mostly players performing a couple of years and then struggling with recurring injuries.
There is something wrong with their programs in term of amount of work and search of flexibility and relaxation. Especially on very young players.

That's not true. Hard Courts cause impact injuries. Clay courts can damage muscles, and cause strain injuries, because players have to hit through the ball a lot harder to win the points, and run on court. Both type of courts can cause injury, but as far as I'm aware Filip's injuries haven't been impact injuries?

Having seen some of it, I'm still in two minds about him. His game still looks kind of "lightweight" and he is getting impatient too easily. Anyway, his next opponent is Bautista-Agut, so good luck tomorrow! :boxing:

Great that he was called to join DC team. Not only because of the opportunity to train with other guys but because it meant that he was healthy and that back problems that forced him to pull out from Cherbourg challenger (and maybe also from two futures in Croatia) were behind him.

But his Rome CH QR2 match service statistics is worrying... looks to me like there still might be some back injury... Hope I'm wrong.

TBH he will face Ouahab in the final for the second week in a row.
I haven't seen Filip (till then) able to do better when facing an opponent twice in a short period.

Don't know if his game is too predictible or if it is a mental issue.

If he manages to win, I guess it would be a good step ahead.

After defeating Koniusz 0/6 6/3 6/4, Filip had another slow start defeating Baumann (Njemacka #463 best 344 26g) 3/6 6/1 6/4.

He will now face Torebko (Njemacka 25g #496 best 182) who is down from challenger level (as Filip) but struggled a lot in early rounds (3 sets to Cacic, Krawietz and Masar)

Another final for Filip.

A strange match today with breaks ahead and broken back and a lot of points played on his own serve.
He won in 3 6/7 (4/7) 6/3 6/4.

His opponent in inal will be Piotr Gadomski (Polska 21g #421 (BR 395) who already won 23 utures this year in april Turkey F16 (HC) and May Romania F1 (CL).
He never had a ranking as Filip did in the past BUT Filip has to show us yet he has enough guts to win a final.
