...or maybe because Zagreb has better training facilities than Sombor. Who knows?

Anyway, I find it completely irrelevant. It doesn't matter what is his residence - Florida, Zagreb, Sombor, or Mars and also his nationality doesn't matter; his tennis is what matters. I thought we are all here to support him and to follow his results and progress.

Please, don't start with this Serbo-Croatian bullshit, this thread is not meant for that.

please say that to nemanja because he started with that. and you know that very well

I'll do my chatting to myself commentary today so anyone who doesn't get a chance to watch/view on livescore can see how the match went.

Anyway, Fico opens up to break to 15 :) Good start against Riba. I didn't really fancy Filip in this match. Early doors yet, and a nice start. A win here and it opens up a chance of a tournament win, surely?

Tristanslav
09-17-2010, 09:20 AM
Filip blows a 40-0 lead, but manages to scrape the hold in a long second game. Next one is a bit quicker, as Riba wins it to 15.

2*-1 Krajinovic.

Tristanslav
09-17-2010, 09:29 AM
First break point against Filips serve, and Riba takes it to 30. Filip responds in breathtaking fashion, breaking to 0 in a game that lasted less than 2 mins.

3 breaks of serve so far in the opening 5 games, which have taken 20 minutes (the first two took 11).

Krajinovic 3*-2

Tristanslav
09-17-2010, 09:37 AM
The inability of both players to dominate on serve continues, Riba breaking again to 30 to level again. Tight set this one, and one that could be decided by who holds first, rather than who breaks. Riba fails to do that, as Filip breaks again, after an extended bout of deuces.

Krajinovic 4*-3

Tristanslav
09-17-2010, 09:56 AM
Shocks abound as both players hold comfortably, but Filip is broken again, serving to take the set. Riba then holds again to 15, and Filip is behind for the first time in the match

5*-6 Riba

Tristanslav
09-17-2010, 10:01 AM
Filip gets off to a bad start, going all 0-30 on us, then wins the next. Another dropped point gives Riba 2 break points, and the opportunity to win his 3rd successive set 7-5. He does just that - 7 breaks in the first set, which took 53 minutes.

5-7 Riba.

Tristanslav
09-17-2010, 10:13 AM
Bit of a procession and Filip needs to hold next up as Riba wins his fourth game in a row, and does it easily, to love. Riba moves to 40-15 on the Krajinovic serve and it's all looking a bit one sided now. Filip forces my words firmly back down my throat by saving both break points, but Riba forces another break point, and converts. 5 games in a row for the Spaniard.....make that six as he holds to 30. I reckon this could be quite a short set here....

5-7, 0*-3 Riba

Tristanslav
09-17-2010, 10:20 AM
Filip shocks the world by winning the first point on his own service for the first time since his very first service match. He then wins a second. Can't make it three in a row though, as Riba comes back to 30-30. Another point goes Filips way, and he finally stops the rot by holding. Still needs a break though. Not looking likely either, as Riba has sorted out his serve. He holds to love

5-7, 1*-4 Riba

Tristanslav
09-17-2010, 10:25 AM
The next two games take about 3 seconds.

5-7, 1-6 Riba.

Ok, we're off again with Tristans live commentary :)

First set to Koubek 6-3, the Austrian got an early break and never gave it up. Second set currently stands 5-2 to Filip, although 4 minutes ago it was 5-0........ important couple of games coming up.

Tristanslav
09-24-2010, 12:52 PM
Hmm. Koubek holds to love first up meaning that he's won 12 of the last 13 points. Krajinovic stops that particular run, racing out to a 30-0 lead in the next game, and although Koubek gets back to 15, Fico serves well to give himself 2 set points.Takes the first, and we're all level.... 3/6, 6/3 after an hours play.

Tristanslav
09-24-2010, 01:05 PM
Deciding set up and running, Koubek holds to 15, Filip in immediate danger as Koubek races out to 0-40. Only needs the first of the breakpoints as he goes 2-0 up. Needs an immediate response, and wins the first point of game three. Koubek levels at 15-15, but Krajinovic gives himself a sniff, winning the next two points to give himself two breakpoint opportunities. The first one goes walkabout, and Koubek saves the second with a winner. He claims his third and fourth points in a row and holds. 3-0 now final set, and with Filips serve still looking vulnerable, this could be a repeat of the recent match with Riba - a very quick final set. I reckon he needed to break there.

Tristanslav
09-24-2010, 01:12 PM
Game 4 of the set starts with Filip grabbing the first two points, but back comes Koubek again. Filip gets his composure back, however, and serves out to 15. Pressure back on Koubek now, with just the one break separating them. If there is any pressure on him though, it's not apparent, as he blasts out to 40-0. Nothing doing for the Serb, Koubek holds to love. Still only one break. 1-4.

Tristanslav
09-24-2010, 01:18 PM
Game six starts off the in similar fashion, with Krajinovic seeming to have settled his serve down again, as he leads 30-0. 30, becomes 40, but then back comes Koubek again, and we're at 40-30. A long, testing point next, but Krajinovic wins it, and, to his credit, is still alive. 2-4. Running out of time to get into the Koubek serve though. Game 7, and yet more of the same. Koubek leads quickly, 30-0, Krajinovic has a nibble to bring it back to 30-15, but Koubek then makes it 40-15. and then holds. That third game is proving crucial, his failure to take either break point has left him without any lives left. Other than that game, and the one he was broken in, there hasn't been a threat on either mans serve in this final set.

Tristanslav
09-24-2010, 01:25 PM
So, how does Fico handle pressure? Serving to stay in the match for the first time, and he's doing it with aplomb, getting to 40-0 in seconds. Still struggling to get a love game on the board, as Koubek brings it back to 30, and now the pressure really is on. Fico holds though, and forces Koubek to serve out. It really has been a tight one this match, and one that Filip will be thinking he could have won.

Koubek, serving for the match, goes 15-0. Krajinovic responds 15-15. Koubek again, 30-15. And again, 40-15. One point in the next two, and he's through. Bangs down a big serve, all over.

Tough loss for Filip. Had his chances, but a terrible service game early in the decider cost him. He's not far away, but not quite there yet.

Koubek takes it 6-3, 3-6, 6-3

Di Mauro, Ramos-Vinolas, Volandri.. I think that he can beat all 3 of these, so semis should be realistic result... In semis, he'll have to play against either Fognini or Bolelli who are both better than Filip at the moment, I think...

Honestly thought he'd get the better of Di Mauro, but doesn't look likely here. Won the first, had chances in the second but lost on the tiebreak, and has fallen away badly in the third.

Current score is 6-4,6-7,2-5* although he's had two break points on the Di Mauro serve and is currently at Deuce in this game.

this is pretty bad.
i write when it's bad.

things are going slower than everyone expected. fortunately, he has a lot of time and talent to waste.

he should probably train hard in the next couple of weeks and skip a few tournaments. motivation, determination and physical strength are the key words.

i expect him to bounce back and get his game to the next level by the end of the year.

getting close to the top 100 (deep inside 150) by May 2011 is a reasonable ranking improvement, since he has 24 only points to defend until then. those are my expectations

Does Filip need a break? Truly disastrous result today, losing to 855th ranked Herbert of Belgium in straight sets - a guy who's best result is Quarter finals in a 10k futures event.

Dear me. Might be knocked out of the Serbian top 5 soon, especially as Ciric seems to be in such great form....

Springer89

I don't mind the rankings, which takes care of itself... It's about the level of play...

2008 Filip would beat this guy. :secret: 15K futures QF.
This defeat is sooo unlike Filip... Makes me wonder what the hell is wrong.

I hope that whatever is a problem will be identified and sorted out.

Tristanslav
10-11-2010, 02:08 PM
Oh I agree Springer - as you say, rankings will take care of itself. I had a feeling it might not be as easy as it initially looked, simply because of the hard work Filip made of the previous qualifying round. But to lose, and in straight sets as well...well, we've already said enough there. As you say, I just hope it's resolved soon. I'm not sure entering a ATP250 event is worthwhile at this stage though.

I'm not so sure. It looks almost certain that if he does play, it will be his first event for like 6 months, and it would be a wasted wild card, because he'll be likely playing a top 100 player straight away. It could be bad for his confidence if his first match back is an absolute hiding.

I'm just hoping he's fit and ready to go for the second half of the season. If the season is a complete write off and he's forced to start climbing from 7/800 again, it could be a disaster for his career.

I know what you mean, but i think it's for the best. I went down to roehampton courts (the courts used for qualies) the other day, and they are quick. Like, really quick. Big servers will have a field day this year, I would have been shocked if Filip could get through them. If he can find some form in the challenger level, he could still have a reasonable US swing, and maybe sneak into the US qualifiers.

This week is becoming a good start though. Couple more wins would be good.

First round against Mcgee, 580th ranked qualifier from Ireland. Lost the first set on a tiebreak after looking the more likely to break - but has recovered from a break down in the second set which is currently on serve at 4-3. Would be a poor defeat, even though he's clearly still on his comeback.

Ok. FINALLY wins the set 9-7 in the tiebreak after saving a match point. Final set now, over 2 hours played already. The main question being will the better ranked player who has played about 4 competitive matches all year tire first, or will the man who has already had to play 3 qualifiers to get this far?
It'll certainly help Filips recovery to fitness anyway, but it would be nice if he actually won a match.

Fico is now 1400th. As I'm not sure Krajinovics get enough money to send it back to Florida (and enough influence to provide him with WC) youshould check Turkish futures qualifying draws and then hrvatske bosnian and srbske ones. If i am wrong (and Bollettieri kind enough) check the ones in Florida.

I think theres an element of bad management in there, certainly, which hasn't helped. Remember when he started, for around a year, he was playing only those heavy south american clay courts. I'm not convinced that was great for his development. Now, he's like, the same age as players in the top 50, but he really has had nothing in his career. Essentially he's starting again as a 20 year old.

I hope he can come through, because as a youngster wow, what talent. I'm not convinced though. His career reminds me so far of Vojislava Lukic's in the womens side, and we all know how that finished.

Actually, that was the best option. It's on clay and near to Bradenton. Clay is always the best opinion for young player. For his game and for his bones. How hurted he would be that he played hard courts.
After all of this injuries I don't think he will make anything big unfortunately.
It's just hard to go to the top: you need alot of talent, alot of money, good head and stay helth. If you have luck you are born in big tennis country (like e.g. France, Great Britain, Australia) you don't need money, they will just take you to the tennis academy.

Taking into account his long absence from the tour, it's good that he's got couple of matches under the belt. Hope that the shoulder is pain-free... as for the rest, as they say - baby steps.

After seeing him play today, there is a lot in his game that could be criticized, but I would skip that at least till the summer months. Let him play and get some mileage in order to understand better where he really is.

Nothing coming up on the itf site in the results, or draw pages, but if you look in the head to head pages between bjelica and Krajinovic, it shows Fico as winning in Turkey F9 2012, so I assume MaratPure is right.

Great. 2nd seed he's just beaten too, so should have a chance to progress a bit further in this one. Wonder what his target is this year? Top 500?

Good play yesterday by Filip, had his head screwed on right for most of the time. Got an opportunity at the end of the first set, got aggressive and took it. Break and re-break at the beginning of the second set, some tight games after and DF Bjelica to give him the match.

Today, in an hour or so, against Alexander Sadecky (SUI). It's the second match of the day, hard court number 3. The guy is lefty and tall, plays with single-handed backhand. Ranks at 584 at the moment.

The match is available on live stream: http://tenistv.tv/canliyayin.php?salon_id=8

Ajde Filipe, fight!!! :armed:
