Seeing him as solid of both wings (with some stunning BH dtl from time to time), he will have huge serve when he grows up a little more (expected to be over 190?) and gets stronger which already might be enough for at least top 100.Also he is very good at the net, nice touch and good feel when to come forward and already likes to finish points off there which bodes well for him.If he keeps on training hard, being commited to tennis and nothing unexpected happens I can see him inside top 50, but hoping for much more ofc :).
But to add, in that match in Belgrade I saw some things that I didn't like, but will keep that for my self for now, need to watch him several more times to be sure...

Interesting things you brougt up.

Russel is getting old but his experience might be his best bet today...and his fast legs, haven't seen him lately so dunno how much speed he lost cos of aging...He's ranked 219 atm and Filip has already beating much better ranked players so he does have a good chance cos these 2 previous wins gave him a lot of confidence I hope.GL!

Only 44% points won of first serve...I am repeating my self again but he needs to work on his serve constantly...Too bad that those 2 great wins won't yield any points. If he had played Baton Rouge I don't doubt that he would have qualify and would got some points there. But I don't think this was bad decision, experience will mean much to him...Also those 2 wins were against pretty high ranked players, so he proved that he can play against them already. And he's barely 17 so we might have expected from him to be inconsistent.Very good yesterday, bad today...
As for LL, got no idea if he has a chance for that, would be nice though.

Team Krajinovic: (L to R) Pablo Mayorga, Chip Brooks, Nick Bollettieri, Filiip Krajinovic, and Red Ayme

Up-and-coming Serbian sensation Filip Krajinovic has been given a wild card into the main draw of the ATP Tournament in Belgrade. This will be the first career ATP main draw event for the 17-year old Nick Bollettieri Tennis Academy student. Filip has been training at the NBTA for two years and has come a long way. When he first arrived, he had no ITF or ATP points and now he is ranked #521 in the world!

Filip trains daily under the watchful eyes of Nick Bollettieri, Chip Brooks, Red Ayme and Pablo Mayorga. He also works with with the IMG Performance Institute to help him maximize the other aspects of the game. Dr. Sally Parsonage is his nutritionist, Dr. Angus Mugford is his mental conditioning trainer, Kevin Murdoch and Graeme Lauriston are his physical therapists, and Yutaka Nakamura and Dave Langworthy oversee his physical training.

We are all thrilled with Filip’s progress and can’t wait to see him continue his development throughout his career!

At the moment, only match that is playing is on Court1, it is final round of qualifiers. Since it was planned for 10 a.m., but started only at 11 a.m., wild guess is that main court will start with one hour delay, too. I really hope that live stream will start once play on central court starts.

Finally consolidated break, 5-2* :) .If he can keep this kind of game up he has genuine chance of winning this.Firs serve percentage is low but even 2nd serve isn't that weak and attackable anymore, finaly we see that he worked on that and it encourages me.First serve down the T line will be a killer when he grows up and gain some strength.

I thought it will be a disaster first, then with his play in 2nd set suddenly thought he may even win it so I felt a bit down in the end...Anyway he has shown us that we can expect great things if he keeps working and training hard. His game is one that simply won't work that well at this level he is now.Being barely 17 he lacks fitness, strength, experience...When he gets some of that he'll be dangerous player. At times he has shown us what his serve will become one day, keep in mind that he will grow more.At times he has shown us that he can dictate points even on slow clay like this one.He has shown us that he has fantastic touch at net, especially for a 17 yr old.I have had some doubts about his willing to fight when he goes down but he made a great come back after losing 0-6 first set.Just keep working hard Filip, results will come...
As for results it's been a while since he earned some points. If he had won today he would be inside 450.He had some good wins recently (Kevin Kim) but those were in qualies and haven't been rewarded with points.I am sure he's due to major breaktrough later this year. And when he gets more experienced with time and his body develops to match his game sky may be the limit...
He's on alternate list for Sarasota challenger next week, he practically lives there so I guess he'll play for sure. After that I saw him on RG alternate list and I hope he may get quali WC.If not I would like him to play some weak challenger to pick up some points, like one in Uzbekistan same week but he's not on the list there.
Anyway I hope there are some exciting moment awaiting us in few months.Gl Fico :) .

:wavey: Just wanted to say I was with Jelena watching Filip play yesterday, and I was extremely impressed with him. Had never seen him play live before. After the first set, when he was very nervous, I feared it would be a whitewash :o but he showed a lot of fight and heart to come back. Granollers is a very experienced clay courter, and he showed that with his dropshots and general court coverage, but Filip has nothing to be ashamed of, and he will be a star one day.

And, yes Peggy, he is very cute............... though far too young for me :o

FILIP KRAJINOVIC (8) - RAIAN LUCHICI (ROU) 6-2 6-4

FILIP KRAJINOVIC (8) - TREAT CONRAD HUEY (PHI) 7-5 4-6 1-6

Yeah, it seems that 2 matches in one day together with jet lag got him. Also it was green clay, so he changes surface again...
He had some good wins in past few months but didn't make it into any main draw, some tough losses, some close ones.He is good of both wings, technically he has all the shots, plays really aggressive tennis at times and in his age it produces many unforced errors...And that with inexperience makes it tough for him.
His game really needs time to develop and I am going to repeat again that we need to be patient with him.I just hope he doesn't lose his confidence if he doesn't do anything notable in the next period.
It would maybe be good for him if he plays few futures to get some wins under his belt and some points and then tries bigger stage again. He's on the list for Carson challenger two weeks from now so he has time to get some rest and do some training.Week after there's Yuba City challenger and I guess he'll play there too. They are both played on HC so it might suit him better. After that there will be at least a month without any US based challengers but there are US series of futures going on in that period...
Anyway, keep your head up Fico, get some rest and keep training hard.

Ok, expected then.He must not feel like it is step back, and I hope his team is telling him the same, it's just that he needs to be patient and keeps working, it will all click sooner or later.I already said that there are 2 challengers incoming 2 weeks from now and that series of futures will go on after without any challenger in US in that period so I expect him to play those. There are few futures in Serbia soon too but I guess it's better from him to stay close to his training base.

Fico is in the draw for Loomin this week, in California, 15k future. Decent level of opposition, top seed is in the top 200. First match up is a toughie, against number 7 seed Adam Feeney - ranked in the 300's. The sort of match, he'd probably be looking to win if he wants to climb up this year though. Second round would pit him against a qualifier ranked outside the top 600, so good chance of at least quarters if he gets that first win. Not on the OOP today, so must start tomorrow.

Radalek
06-09-2009, 10:27 AM
Yeah, he needs to win those sort of matches if he wants to climb up.He already had some solid wins over top 200 ranked players and it was on clay and hard is his favorite surface so I really do expect from him to do well here.Getting to quarters would finally put him inside top 500, looking forward to it.Good luck.

you can't compare him with dimitrov.that guy is one year older.iften if they are of the same age what is the point to compare them "come on krajinovic, you need to be better than him".why does he need to do that?he doesn't need.it would be nice if he become top 30,top 20,top 10 one day.you may not to compare them in this young age.you can compare them when they grow up.but without that "you must".leave kidd to play tennis.

I guess that every poster that comes regularly to this thread has his/her own ideas of how Filip might feel like or what he should work on or what should his schedule be like or ... And it's because we all want the best for him.

Well, I do hope as well.I have in mind that 2nd set against Grannolers (not sure if spelled right) in Belgrade. The way he dictated play on slow clay like that one and small amount of mistakes he made...really liked it.Shame he couldn't maintain it, but he is capable of producing it.Now, it's all about getting it right in his head.He said him self he will play futures to get some confidence back, so it's obvious what's the issue at the moment.I really hope he wins his next match because it may hurt him to fail in 2 futures in a row after months of tries on bigger stage and getting so close few times but without reward in results. It really feels like this is very important period for him, if he goes trough it we may expect some nice things till the end of the year.

There's another futures next week with even weaker field so I don't know if he's going to play that one too or come back to Serbia right after this one. If he gets to final again it will be 2 weeks of full schedule for him, so maybe yeah, it would be good to get some rest. But if he feels he can make it it would be good for him to play next week too and make a push towards top 400. Anyway good luck Filip :) .

Last year Filip played 95 matches (junior ones included)... Too many, IMHO.

I also like the idea to include Europe in his future schedule, because of the new opponents - I mean, how many players from Rochester futures draw has he already played against - , smaller distances to travel, nicer weather conditions :)...

Teens on the rise tangle in hot Chico tennis final

Chico tennis fans might boast one day that they witnessed Sunday's final between 17-year-old sensations Ryan Harrison and Filip Krajinovic, even if the match between the unseeded players at the Chico Racquet Club & Resort lacked drama in the 103-degree heat.

Harrison outlasted his friend and rival from the Nick Bollettieri Tennis Academy in Bradenton, Fla., 6-3, 6-4 in the $15,000 Balbutin's Chico Pharmacy Tennis Classic.

But the implications of the players' first professional final are profound.

"I've always had complete belief in myself to make it to the top," Harrison said. "He feels he can, too. He's one of my toughest competitors. Hopefully, one day we'll be playing in the Wimbledon final instead of the Chico final."

In April 2008, Harrison joined Rafael Nadal and Richard Gasquet as the only 15-year-olds to win a match on the ATP Tour, the major leagues of men's tennis, in this decade.

Harrison, a Shreveport, La., native, beat then-No. 95 Pablo Cuevas of Uruguay on clay in Houston. Cuevas won the French Open doubles title two months later.

Harrison will leave soon for Croatia, where he'll serve as a practice partner for the U.S. Davis Cup team.

Bollettieri, who has coached Andre Agassi and other Grand Slam champions, wrote in a British newspaper last year that Serbia's Krajinovic (pronounced Cry-in-o-vich) "is going to be a hell of a player. … He reminds me in a lot of ways of Andre Agassi, except Andre was not so comfortable at the net."

Neither Harrison nor Krajinovic had lost a set entering Sunday's final. Krajinovic foot-faulted to trail 5-3 in the first set and faded in the second set to fall to 2-1 lifetime against Harrison.

"I felt bad the whole day," said Krajinovic, who called for the trainer after holding serve in the opening game of the second set. "I didn't eat well. It's no excuse. He played better and deserved to win."

Well he did play a lot of matches, especially if you consider that he played both junior and some pro tournaments. But most of those matches were in juniors and he usually went deep into tournaments, thus those amount of matches played. This year he plays only pro tournaments and (unfortunately) he had a lot of first round exits so I don't think that he played a lot of them this year. Actually number is 34 or something at the moment and he's already in the second half of the season. That's a big difference, around 1/3 less matches than last year, but it was expected. As for Rochester and same opponents...well I agree but if the first seed is the guy he bageled last week why don't take a chance and maybe win a tournament? And one week after which is even weaker, I think he will be 3rd seed there. If he takes both tournaments he might end up around #410. Then he can take rest, it will be deserved one :) .

Seems to me you got me wrong...
I didn't say anything against him playing in Rochester.

What I wanted to say was:
If he continues to play tournaments in USA he will probably face the same opponents again. Will this be good for his development?

I don't know but I incline to think that it won't.

Nah, I agree with you. I was just talking about these two tournaments. He should play both Rochester and Pittsburgh. Pittsburgh is even weaker than Rochester, really nice chance to maybe win both of them and get close to top 400. After that he should take a rest and come to Europe and continue there, absolutely agree.

His 2nd round match might be over by now...I really hope he dismissed that WC guy fast. I still don't trust his fitness and stamina over two longer matches in one day...

Looks like you're nervous while waiting for the results. :D
Somehow I don't believe the official results will be posted right after the second round matches are finished. They will wait until the end of today's play.

Nice and easy :) . Now against first seed Martirosyan. Filip defeated him 6-0 7-5 last week so he can do it again.
I slept well to be honest, was too tired. But this is the nice way to start morning :) . Good luck tonight!

Great result it is not easy to win against same player two weeks in a row.
Now final against much older player who was on the verge to enter top 100 few years ago but who is coming back after injury should be an interesting one.Good luck Filip

Nice :) Keep in mind that this tournament is on clay, not on hard like previous ones. Clay isn't exactly Filip's favorite surface. Tough wins like this one can only boost your confidence. I just hope he isn't tired from playing two weeks back to back. Good luck!
