Cilic is a mug, who has he actually beat in his career, apart from a tanking Davydenko?

I guess two times to tank against the same player is quite stupid, so you can laugh as much as you wants but beating top5 player is no easy ,so credit to Marin.

The boy turned 19 a month ago, be patient.

And BTW he beat Sergio Roitman, the biggest mug of all. :nerner:

Cillic is not overated.

He is a very good player for the future, you can tell he has what it takes, he just needs to mature a little.

I think his success will come on grass.

I think his success will come on grass.

:spit: You have to be joking.

Yeah he should post a few good results on that surface, but he won't be a major contender given that his movement isn't great, his serve is too temperamental, and he can't volley to save his life.

He appears to like clay, although it wouldn't surprise me if he were to perform better on medium-paced hard courts and indoor courts.

In most cases, that would not be true, but it is very possible in this one. The first win Cilic had over Davydenko was after Davydenko had 1 day of rest from the USO semis and then he had to fly all the way over to Beijing and the win in this tournament, Davydenko was fined for tanking.

Cilic probably won't go past the top 30 for the majority of his career.

Making generalizations for an entire nation now are we? :o

I certainly do not think Janko will ever make the top 5, I would be happy if he made the top 30. Then again, if Ivan Ljubičić can make the top 5, then Čilić and pretty much anyone else can.

We can't say that for sure yet either. ;)

Even in the '86-'87 age group Novak may or may not be more talented than Andy Murray and Richard Gasquet and then of course in '89-'90 there are youngsters like Nishikori, Klizan, Young, Inzerillo, and Eysseric.

agree for the most part. Talent is hard to define here but yes nole is more versatile.

nole has the edge at two slams and one of the slams wimby is 50-50 because we haven't seen enough to know who would win that one.

nole-nadal will be a great rivalry for sure.

At the moment yes, Djokovic is better tennis player, no doubt about.
But you'll never know what is going to happen in 6 months or so.
Take into account that Cilic up until year and half ago played junior tennis, while Djokovic plays proffesionally for 4 years. Though their age is close, we will see how Marin progresses.

I just love to see how Djokovic knees will look with his playing style in two years from now.
Probably as good as Nadals

Excuses, excuses, excuses and Volandri wouldn't have.

I'm not rushing to Fernando's defense, so it's not an excuse. He played like crap and has played this way for almost a year now.

Since May last year, Fernando has won I think 19 matches (including 5 at Beijing alone). Cilic did not have to beat an in form top 10 player today, and the new rankings will reflect that. As far as I'm concerned, this bump is lame because Cilic actually has to achieve something noteworthy for me not to consider him overrated.

The only two good wins Cilic has are both over Davydenko, and that could just be a bad matchup. Or fixed. So until Cilic turns hype into results, he's still overrated.

Cilic feels the ball better than Ljubicic even asleep

Big player for the future is Cilic, top 5er maybe more.

TOP10 will be for sure soon

Cilic is one hell of a player, big future ahead .

for sure Cilic >>>>>>> Ljubo

I heard Fowler from ESPN wondering if Cilic will be a top-5 player and future slam winner. I bet he never heard of the guy before today

And that's just the ones I could find pretty easily. I think it's clear that the general consensus is, "future top 5 player". Has he done anything to warrant that hype? Sure he has the talent and lots of guys do, but so far he's just another overrated youngster.

You take the word of RaVer seriously. I had clowns tell me that Roddick when he reached his peak was going to do well on clay in TMS events and make the 2nd week of RG.

When he is as overhyped as Gasquet was, then come back to me, in other words you know he isn't even close and Donald Young got more hype than Cilic could ever dream of.

Next please.

Just because those players are/were overhyped to the extreme, does not mean that Cilic is not being overrated at all. Ljubicic has been to number 3 and reached a grand slam semifinal. Cilic has done nothing to prove that he might have a similar career.

Anyway, the point of the bump was to prove that Cilic is not overrated. That's assuming he's overrated to begin with of course, because you don't believe so. But hype or no hype, a win over mug mode Gonzalez does not prove anything.

Top 20 isnt as hard as you think these days with the points system, but staying there consistently is more of the challenge, especially when you look at some of the players in the top 10 makes you think!!Also Grand Slam's get more points so if he can go the distance in long matches and has abit of game which alot here believes then this thread is going to be very interesting for future purposes!!
