Didn't look pretty, murray was down a break in the 2nd set but managed to reel off 5 straight games but I think all of them went to deuce.

One of those days of winning ugly I think

Pretty much. It was an adequate performance from Andy and no more.

Dlouhy played better in the second and gave Andy some trouble with some very nice short volleys, and attacked hard on Andy's second serve, which he was seeing far too much of. But then he threw in a poor game to be broken back and Andy got the better of a couple of pretty low quality games to wrap it up.

I'll take the win and hope for a better quality performance tomorrow in the QFs

Tursunov is gonna get mugged

Muzza can sniff the 50 points for this title now that Ancic and Davydonkey bit the dust today

I didn't put it up until at least 5 mins after the match and then it took ages for the pages to load as they seem to now on MTF - get a move on in future. Big raspberry...

The live stream was poor but Andy seemed to struggle so hopefully that's his bad day at work this week over and he can beat Tursunov who also wasn't convincing in his last match

A win is a win is a...well, you know.

Do you think Muzza has his eye on Shanghai? Or does the win matter more right now, considering the year he's had?

He's on record as saying he's surprised he's still an outside chance for Shanghai and is not really thinking about that.

I think if the chips fall his way he'll take it but I'm not sure he's busting a gut trying to make it as a goal in itself. I don't think he feels he's achieved enough this season to warrant it with the long injury layoff.

Exactly how close is he?

I know he was out for half the year, but he has the talent to be there and his presence will make it far more interesting.

He's still an outside shot, frankly. Realistically he needs to win St Petersburg then have a good run in Paris doing better than the rest of the suspects like Gasquet, Berdych, Ljubicic.

I really hope Andy doesn't get complesant now espically as Davy is out. Everyone was saying he would easily win Metz aginst Robredo and he showed us why in the first set and then crashed! Play good tennis all the way through the Title is yours Andy but make winning each match a priority. Only look at the race rankings after St Petersburg.

I agree Andy is one of the most realisitic down-to-earh guys out there. He will not get carried away....unlike his fans (namely me!):o :p

Good win. Just think how far up in the race and atp rankings he would be if he didn't get injured. How frustrating!

Top 5, excluding Montral + Cinci as he wasn#t properly back for them, look at his results. Won an ATP event, final of 2 others and semis on IW and Miami and who knows with St Petersburg and Paris.

Conservative estimate would be below Ferrer as I illustrated in the RACE thread. If you want to be optimistic then he would probably be in the mix between Roddick and Davydenko.

Good job Andy :yeah:

Shanghai is a long shot, he needed to go further in Madrid really. But a title here would be a nice boost going into the off-season, and I expect big things next year.
