Anybody want Sontoro to win?

I am just curious if he has any real fans. At RG i noticed several people have no interest in Fabrice, and didnt want pictures or autographs of him. I also saw him sign someones autograph book keep walking, and when he couldnt find the person who it belonged to, he just dropped the autograph book right on the ground intentionally  . He seems rude, no wonder he wasnt picked for that davis cup or whatever it is called. Is he not a nice guy?

I'm sure he's a nice guy. I think he's not very popular because his style of play is not very appealing. But personally i like to watch him.

I can tell you that the French fans were not nearly as enthusiastic about Fabrice compared to clement, gasquet, grosjean etc....they were like Fabrice....nope...

Apparently Fabrice doesnt get on well with most of the other French guys, so he got left out of the team despite being one of the best doubles players. I was at a Grosjean match this year, almost the whole French team were there to support him except for Santoro.
Santoro also spat at a linesman at the Aus Open this year. He doesnt really seem like a nice person at all.

HIs style of play IS very appealing... although I suppose to somebody who isn't a tennis nut it might not be, since he doesn't exactly have a booming game. I appreciate it, though ;)

yeah well my opinion changed about him a few days ago. Can you imagine him dropping an autograph book on the ground? And many fans were like 'im not going to say hi and ask for autograph'. It seems like a commonly held opinion. I barely ever criticize a player or any person for that matter...and im not even criticising him really...just stating specific facts and events.

Im definately an fan. I think he is a totally unique shotmaker. Very stylish. I'd much rather watch him that some who trys to bludgeon every single shot like J Johansson or Philippoussis. I saw the match between him and Clement on TV also and the support seemed pretty even.

It is actually appealing and boring, and then overall it's not really appealing. But it depends on who he's playing against (Santoro/Clement was boring).

But personally i love to watch him. I'd watch all double matches if i could. I really loved watching SF vs Bryan brothers.

I was in RG today and ...Santoro is really MAGICCCCCCC !!! I'd like to see his statistics, he didn't make lot of faults I'm sure. I love wathing him , he's fantastic. Llodra is good but today it's Fabrice who did the difference, he's incredible.
Wonderful match ! When we see a double like after 2 semi finals women (very very boring), we realise that there is no comparaison between women and men... whatever people say, masculine tennis is definatly better to watch...

Well 123 its looks like you`re out numbered. Yes Fabrice has fans. I`m looking forward to seeing him add the Wimbledon title to his two Aussie titles and the RG one he is about to win.

Great to see such Fabrice support on the board - outside of France, he may very well be the most popular French ATP player...and speaking for myself, definitely the most fun to watch!

He's sweet... he's probably just a bit more flamboyant than some of the others I think. Well, that's the word I like to use :) He's been polite to me on the occasions when I've spoken to him :worship:

I also want Sontoro to win in the final but mostly cause Llodra is a nice guy. I admire santoros game but not his personality. he seems rather crass and sarcastic. Ive been around other players and french players and sanotor seems less nice than many of them.

I luuuuuuuuuuuurve le petit magicien. Frankly, I find it hard to understand why his style wouldn't appeal to every tennis fan but that's taste for you. Normally I would want him & Llodra to win tomorrow (another strip??) but facing the Belgians I'm torn, Olli & Xav into a doubles GSfinal is pretty special. I'm just happy I get to see it!

Ive been around other players and french players and sanotor seems less nice than many of them.I met him in Rotterdam twice, Santoro.. and really, I didn't notice that sarcastic and rude thing. We might have caught him off guard back then, but he was still nice to us. Asked us how we were, ok in French, but we got it. He took his time signing everything, taking pics with everybody, even asked to who of us the pen belonged that he signed with, to give it back to the right person... Kept smiling all the time, his coach helping him out by taking his bags. No, I can only say that Santoro is really nice... :worship:

Well, I am not a fan of his, but I really do enjoy watching has matches. He is such a gifted player and a funny player too. And a great doubles player. He is definitely one of the players out there that I like to watch most. And I have 'met' him in Rotterdam before, and he wasn't rude or anything. He probably had to go somewhere and that's why he kept walking. I have had such an encounter with Patrick Rafter too.. He also kept walking, but he was just in a hurry and he is in fact a great and friendly guy. If he has more time, he takes his time for the fans. The same goes for Fabrice, I think.

How can you call his game not appealing, by the way? It's far more appealing than Roddick or Coría playing. To me, anyway.

I'm a huge Santoro fan. :) To me, he is the most exciting player out there, even though he isn't my main favorite. His matches are always incredibly entertaining and he will be sorely missed when he retires. No one plays like him, I think that's special in its own right. When he brings out his magic, he is dazzling and his marathon matches are filled with drama. His first round match against Magnus Norman in the first round of RG 2002 is one of the most memorable matches in my book. Almost everyone I know appreciates his game, so I think calling his game unappealing is a bit of a stretch.

So yes, I wanted him to win. I even had a dream the other day that he won RG. Of course he lost in the next round but it was a lovely dream nonetheless.

I can't speak for his personality, but I'm not going to form an opinion on the account of one person. I don't think you can judge his character by one autograph-signing incident. He's just human and he probably has to sign autographs almost everyday. I also appreciate a bit of sarcasm on occasion, so I don't think that automatically makes him a bad person. My gut feeling is that he's a great person, but I could be wrong. And that spitting incident was an isolated event, he's usually a very fair player who is not a stranger to sportsmanship.

Allez Fabrice! Best of luck in the future!

Well said Layla :)

Best of luck to Fabrice in the finals!

PS: BTW, it's Santoro not Sontoro - Paul123, being from France, you should know that!

I like him. I hope he wins doubles final. He is spontaneous.(Australian Open 2004).
