Berrer won just 11 points in first set but then started playing much better especially on serve and volley.
Federer didnt look much troubled despite the lost set

You are so lucky he DF on BP, Roger.

Don't you dare play Paris no matter how far you advance here.

Some nice touches at the net as well, he really pressed Federer there.

good to see Berrer with a good showing against a big calibre like Federer.

Well done Roger! :)

But I hope Berrer gets all the credit he deserves for this performance. Something he can tell his grandchildren about. ;) And I really hope he can establish himself in the Top 100.

Please win your home tournament Roger!

What little I saw of the 3rd set, it seemed as though Fed just wanted to get out of there as soon as possible. He was hurrying up while executing his shots and in-between points. He gets a day's rest so I guess he will be ok for the next round.

But Feds backhand winners = 4 >Berrer 2
But I reckon this wasn´t a good match by Roger

Yeah, it wasn't really a good match from Fed, while Berrer was serving very well in the 2nd set. Nevertheless, enjoyable to watch.

He insisted to play today to get a day off tomorrow.

All credit to Berrer for finding his way into the match after a nervous performance in the first set. He had over 80% on 1st serve in the second set whilst Roger seemed to be anywhere but not on the court until being down 0:4.
Too many UEs from Roger and he clearly wasn't convinced with his performance today.

I hope this means we're back to the usual trend of Roger sucking in early matches just to get improved with time. If he gets Del Potro tomorrow he will need to be on high alert.

^I'd think, he didn't do that in US Open and Madrid and look what happened. He notably won the former, but didn't play very well in the Semis and final, and lost the latter but still played well. But still.

I don't see DelPo giving Roger trouble. Even if he were capable talent-wise, he still has that problem with his nerves.

I didn't watch this match - I'm suprised Rog lost a set. Did he look "off"?

At times he looked as if he were playing in Australia - i.e. went walkabout!

That tells me he plans to play Paris as well. I certainly hope that he will.
Overall, good first and third set by Roger, so-so performance in the second, but he managed to hit a few wonder shots again from which one was simply amazing, squash shot out of position down the line. Highlights will be good, Berrer had a few nice shots as well.

Unfortunately, no, I couldn't see it. Eurosport had the first 10 secs of it, but then they switched to random ppl in the crowd instead. Guess it was due to the Swiss TV having exclusive rights for the oncourt interviews. :o

Might wanna pick up the level a bit if you ARE going to play Paris, though.

Have you seen the interview? Unfortunately Eurosport didn't broadcasted it. That's what I found on the German media about it.

«Es kann doch nicht sein, dass ich mich erklären muss, weil ich mal einen Satz verloren habe. Das ist lächerlich. Ich habe gewonnen und nur das zählt», sagte Federer gegenüber SF-Experte Heinz Günthardt nach dem Spiel im Interview

Translated it would mean that it's ridiculous that he has to explain when he loses a set. He would have won and that's what counts.

Who said Federer is not a good competitor? He managed to lift up his game when the game became tough, had a bad day and still managed to win.And he accomplished all that against a player who...
Actually Berrer who?

This is what Roger really said:""It's almost laughable that i have to explain why i lost a set"

By the way Roger was not pissed at all or did you see an other interview than I?

It is worth pointing out that first round struggles aren't always indicative of poor form - when Federer lost the second set against Pless in the first round of Dubai this year, it brought to an end a 31-set winning streak dating back to the TMC match with Roddick. I saw the last few games of the third set and he looked decent, if a little irritable. Berrer certainly took it to him with his serve and forehand, he hit a huge off-forehand winner into the corner in the last game of the match.

So was only the interview held in swiss german, while the commentary was in german? That's the impression I got, when hearing the few words of the commentators after the interview was over.

There was also some general talk about the top 200/300 in men's tennis.

Merci vilmal Eden. Danke schon.

Wie gehts? Alles matchs gut? Hofenlich. :wavey:

Interesting video and interview while I understood about maybe 10 words, Roger mentioned Mirka in the firt 50 seconds, then he was speaking of himself "sind" and being honored or extremely happy to perform in front of his Basel and home town crowd I believe. My very little acquaintance with german (hoch) wasn't very helpful) I'l ask Dad why Robert Federer almost chuckled and what was so funny from one of Rogers remarks.

What you ma call him was there Guillermo Vilas and he was having a laugh as well since when does he speak swiss german?

A set lost isn't totally surprising. Fed still needs to adjust to the feeling of playing an optional.

The Swiss televison broadcasted that match as well as Eurosport, so the Swiss viewers could choose between these two channels where to watch the match. The commentary on Swiss tv was surely in Swiss German. And as you previously wrote Swiss tv had probably the rights for the interview, therefore Eurosport was forced to switch off.

Hi Luis :wavey: I'm fine, thanks, hope you too :)

Hope your dad can help you out in translating the whole interview. About the remark which made everyone laugh: Roger said that he was relieved to have come through this match and Günthardt said he wouldn't be the only one who would be relieved.

Roger also mentioned that he prefers to adjust from quicker surfaces to slower ones.

It's infectious to laugh when anyone else laughs, no matter if you understand what is going on or not ;)
