I hope i'm not the only fan of Haider-Maurer. I saw him play last week and got the guy's autograph, i'm a fan for life.
Andreas is playing in Britain this week. Today he faces Rehnquist. Go Andreas :rocker2:
Here's a link to his website, unfortunately it's only in German  http://www.haider-maurer.at/.
He is only 20 and is currently ranked number 243, his highest ever ranking. I think he has the game to get into the top 100 before too long.

I hope some day to get to see him play. I try to follow all the Austrian players and have noticed him rising in the rankings in Austria.
Are you also a fan of other Austrians?

I do like the Austrian players, particularly Fischer and also Melzer. Paszek in the women's side. But mainly, i'm a follower of Andreas.

 Why I am not surprised. Hi Paul. :p

Cos you're smart :p

Andreas lost today to Rehnquist :awww: it doesn't really surprise me. Hopefully he can do a lot better next tournament.

He has talent, especially on clay. He beat a lot of good players in challengers on clay a few months ago.

Yes, in Dusseldorf he beat Zib, Meffert, Lopez (Marc) and Darcis on his way to the final there. :D

I'm not sure where he's playing next, but as soon as i find out i'll post :p

It seems that he prefers to be called Andy as that's how he signed his name in his e-mail to me and that's what Fischer and Sandbichler seemed to call him :p :D.
He says there's a chance that he may come back to Glasgow next year :yippee:

Andy lost 6-4 6-0 in Tunisia to Lammer. He also lost his doubles match (he was playing with Martin Fischer) in a champions tie break.

Hope he does better in his next tournament.

When the first set is so close I think after they lose it, they become discouraged insteead of realizing they really have a chance to win. He will have to realize that losing a first close set means he just needs to fight a little harder and win.
What I just wrote applies to all tennis players and not just Andy.

Jurgen's new coach was interviewed and this is what he had to say about Andy. Sorry it posted in German. I had the translation up when I copied it. Hope someone can translate it for us. Basically it said Andy is the best of the younger players coming up and he sees Andy reaching the Top 100.

Sport1: Why you just delete Haider - Maurer?

Nyström: I have the group to Haider - Maurer, Fischer, Sandbichler and Oswald often on the Futures Tour. Haider - Maurer hits the ball really well, he plays a good pace and has that certain something to Top-100-Spieler too.

Sport1: How far can it Haider - Maurer top?

Nyström: Das ist schwer zu sagen. Nyström: That is hard to say. He has by his blows her certainly the potential for the Top 100th Was danach kommt, kann man nie wissen. What comes after, we can never know.

Sport1: Austria and Sweden are of comparable size of the country. But Sweden had always been much more good tennis players than Austria. Was machen die Schweden besser? For God's sake Andy, you're killing me.

He was playing this week in Cherbourg. He won his first round match 6-1 6-2 over Catalin Gard in round one.
Then after being 7-5 6-6 (6-2) up against Lacko with four match points he managed to lose. Hopefully I will be able to get some reports on those matches

I hope Andy starts winning more. I notice that most of the Austrian players do not seem to have many fans. They are always nice to fans, but do not have a following. Let's hope that Andy can change that and have many followers. When he starts winning more he will gain fans.

If he comes to Australia I will bring my Austrian flag and drag any tennis-friends with me to his matches, to convert us all into fans. I don't know what he's like, but he's Austrian so until he becomes 'not a trendy asshole' like another Austrian player we know, I'll give him a chance :)

So far the other little known Austrians have been lovely. Eitzinger, Mirnegg, I'd say Slanar but all I had with him was a lot of awkward eye contact [because I never said anything]. I should include Marach hey. He's not well known , only to me :tape:

Some good news about Andy. He just won a futures.

I had hope the article would print translated, but you can get the drift of it.

Last week celebrated Andreas Haider-Maurer in Tel Aviv in his first tournament victory this year.

In Ramat HaSharon, the 21-year low Austrians now repeated this triumph and his second Futures title this year fetched.

Haider-Maurer continued in the finals of the 15,000-dollar event against the Germans Sebastian Rieschick 7:6 (4), by 6:4.

What is with him? He pulled out of Dubai qualis, he is pulling out of a lot of tournaments in the last weeks. I thought he just had the flu and therefore retired in Reunion.
But that's nearly a month ago...

Andy beat Santiago Giraldo in Gstaad and is now into the quarter finals :D.
His current (career high) ranking of 70 will presumably go up.

After Andreas made the QF of Gstaad to remain at #70 in the world, he then suffered with injury during his next match vs Veic in Kitzbuhel and lost R1. That was the start of Andreas winning only three matches from the end of July through October----one of those wins was a Davis Cup singles rubber over Malisse in Belgium to help Austria advance into the World Group stage for 2012. Andreas made the QF and SF of back to back challengers to end the season, and finished #128 in the year end rankings.

In 2012, Andreas has a 4-4 record. His best result is winning his Davis Cup rubber over Bogomolov and helping Austria advance over Russia into the QF of the Davis Cup for the first time since 1995! Andreas finds great motivation to play his best with support of Austria at his back.

In Meknes in mid-February, Andreas injured his left ankle in the QF vs Hajek and has not played since. He will be returning this week for Austria in Davis Cup vs Spain in Valencia. Obviously, he and the Austrian team are definite underdogs playing in Spain against the defending champions, but AHM, Jurgen and the entire team will try their best to make it competitive and pull off the upset. GL to Andreas and the Austrian team this weekend!
