Are you using Firefox? The sign doesn't show in IE (at least on my pc).

"Magical Glass" freeware will magnify any area on your screen. Install it, run it and then right click the icon to go to settings and change magnification and size, then wherever you move the pointer will be magnified (press Ctrl+alt+numkey5 to activate it I believe).
